He should've started

That's what makes me laugh. If Fred started he could of been unbelievable. Nobody knows what Fred will play like. But I think his massive inconsistency will be the reason he will be moved on next summer.

Don't think he really did anything of note, either way. Thought he was alright when he came on.

People can be very hyperbolic. He wasn't awful; nowhere near awful, in fact.

I thought he was poor. He had a few passes that were really bad. Especially one near the end of the game that was very short. He played Chelsea in. This is his biggest problem. He lacks consistency.

Felt it was harsh not to start him, though.

Poor. He isn't a sub player. Give him to grow through the game.

Shocking when he came on. Lost us all control of midfield as he couldn’t keep the ball. Doesn’t feel he ever does well as a sub.

He does seem like a bit of a momentum player, which is unfortunate because his general level is of a squad player for us, so he shouldn't really be started every week.

I remember when he first came in and had a few cameos where he looked like an absolute competition winner, but when he was needed (probably with injuries to other options) and strung a few games together he started to look like the tidy little player he can be.

Not sure what people expect to be thrown in a game like this, had a mixed game but seeing some overreaction here again, is just cringe.

He's a big game palyer like he showed in many game before and probably should have started based on the fantastic performance last game. For Chelsea being on top, was never easy to get into the game for anyone..

Regression to the mean.

Personally didn't see anything of note. Surely not the impact the manager wanted but not sure why people are going crazy over a fairly mundane sub appearence.

that cross shot he played was absolutely appalling And then to turn and look at rashford and Bruno as if to say “why didn’t get your nut on it” was a joke

They should have been making attacking runs into the box

Big game player but shouldn’t of been expected to perform in a big game?

Haha it had enough pace on for a shot they’d of had to teleport
Shows how clueless we are sometimes. Rashford at the least should have been sprinting to the 6 yard box as soon as he got the ball and shaped. Thats the difference between top strikers and our forwards. Too many of the like the ball to feet or to be slipped in on the ground

In the main i thought he did ok, not sure what people were expecting, he broke up play against a quality midfield and was reasonably effective imo at that specific job.

Would be interested to see it back, from memory it was miles away and even a sprint wouldnt have got anywhere near close to it, but could be wrong.

“Erling Ruud Van Shearer” wouldn’t of got on the end, they’d of had to start their run yesterday

Watch it back. Both were edge of the box and not moving. He should be making the run before the ball is even kicked and if he did he would have got there

He's had objectively like a 6/10, not great not terrible for tonight, pretty much like Eriksen overall. Does that mean Eriksen is not a great player capable of putting in 8/10s? only had a MOTM performance 4 days ago and plenty of them every season before.

No need to bring the Win, Draw, Lose statistics, whenever he started, it's not been matched by almost any player in a Unite shirt over the past 3 years.

To be fair, that would have been a good cross had a player been there; all it needed was one touch. Unfortunately, nobody was in the box. As you said in another post, though, if we had a proper centre forward that may well have been scored. I think Haaland would be on the end of that, to be honest.

And how has the last 3 years been?

It was far too far in front of any striker except maybe prime inzaghi who only would of got there because he’d of been offside
It was laughably bad

A proper centre forward would already be making a run into the box, or be in the box already. This has been an issue with our forwards for a while, including Martial. They don't drive forward in the central position.

In the end, the lack of a run, or lack of presence, makes it a poor ball rather than the other way around.

There was far too much pace on the ball, the goal keeper reacted as if it was a shot
It wasn’t far from the post there is physically no way any striker is getting there
The defenders didn’t react either, no one but Fred knew what was happening

then there is the argument of knowing your team mates. We know rashford isn’t running that channel

I was disappointed he didn’t start. I feel he’s one of those that needs to settle into games

He put too much on it but he had every right to expect a striker to be getting into that area. Haaland scores that.

Have to give it to the Fred loyalty society...you are staunch but deluded. He is never a top six player

Lads - are you mad and what are you watching? Fred is very simply not a good footballer, he is a great guy lots of energy and optimism but just not great at the game. He had probably his best game for United against Spurs but once he came on tonight the game changed and we looked much worse. He just isn’t good enough for this level of football. Play him week in week out for Forest or Villa, he will look good and we will save wages and the challenge of managing around his randomness.

This is not remotely the case in my opinion. I think he's been our best midfielder over the last number of years.

Admittedly it's not a very high bar because Pogba was a total show pony, McTominay is limited, Matic was good for about 6 months. But I think once Fred settled after a poor start at the club he's had some very good seasons.

That's not saying much, as you've pointed out.

Being the best of a bad bunch and also being wildly inconsistent aren't mutually exclusive.
