Wasn't good yesterday. Made some very nice interceptions but his passing was woeful.
I have said it about 20 times... the guy has a flawed technique in that when he passes the ball he cannot pass it straight he always has to curve the ball inwards and he cannot hit the ball straight unless he blasts it and then he has no direction.
If he was a golfer he would only be able to draw the ball, no fade and not hit it straight so we know how that would work out

What is this number 10 nonsense now? Another excuse? He was not played as number 10, he was played in a more forward positions in a 3 men midfield, a position his apologists have been blubbering for a year now, when he was played a bit deeper. The reality is, even if he was played in the middle in front of two CMs, his game is never the creative number 10 and nobody would have asked that of him.
He failed the basics and it is very often the case with him. Awful footballer and it was evident after 1 year in this shirt, here we are years after that he still takes a 100k a week wage from the club.

And he is smiling when he apologises which makes me think that he is really saying "I just cannot help it"
Perhaps the main reason we faltered so much, conceding possession and nothing of quality to link the play, just hit and hope concede cycle in important areas, a mind numbing waste. He's a friend of Casemiro but I just don't see a place for him unless he can win the ball back and lay it off to someone that can pass better.

I like him but I'm just not comfortable with him. Hes the type of player you're just praying he doesnt feck it up when he's on the ball because he's extremely hit or miss with it
He always seems to play like this when he first comes back into the team, and usually works his way into some form. His top level has never been good enough though, so he should definitely be replaced in the near future.
Yeah I agree with this. Fred was recovering the ball well and pressing high last night however his touch was poor and passing just as bad. They will both improve though if he gets more minutes.
Worst performance I have seen in a while. However, like a lot of players can be, he doesn't do well when not on a run of games.

He was playing out of position. If he is playing the furthest up front in a midfield 3 he is the link between mid and attack, a role that he really does not work in.
He was bad yesterday, but much like Lindelöf, having them play out of position doesnt help.
He runs like a mad man, wins countless balls - all for nothing since he does not do anything useful with it. Like a golden retriever in the end.

Both advancing midfielder in a 3 men midfield should provide link between the mid and attack, regardless of the position they play. What role does he work in? A number 8 that is supposed to run around being appalling on the ball? How do you imagine football at Manchester United actually? Play a midfielder who can't pass, create, shoot in an advancing role?
And Lindelof was better even at RB, than Fred was all night.
I am not really sure he can work in our setup at all to be honest.

It was a really, really bad performance but I think he's shown he's better than that and deserves the benefit of the doubt. He's still finding his role in ten Hag's team.

I think we've all seen so much of him in a United shirt that him being okey for Brazil against sides such as Paraguay and Peru over the course of 10 games means very little compared to the dross he has served 85% of his game time here. And to answer your question, he won't work in any top PL side there are better midfielder in bottom 10 teams in the PL.

The season is long and we've still got so long to go, but he only has a year left on his contract (with an option to extend for a year), and there's Eriksen, McTominay, and Casemiro who are probably all very much ahead of him at this point in time.
Probably for the best if we exercise the option and look to start putting him on the market in January onward. Should probably fetch around 30-35% of what we paid.

Think the idea from Ten Hag was to continue Eriksen in 8, partering him with Casemiro to create routines, but also for Fred to be close to Cristiano and compensate his lack of runs.

Fred's stats are usually good regardless of his performance, he's perhaps an anomaly of modern football that way.
Yep if Scott McTominay can look decent under ETH then even Fred needs to be given a chance to improve.
I assume it was a combination of needing Eriksen's passing in deeper position and needing someone who can press further ahead.
Eriksen is the deep playmaker for Ten Hag which is a key position for him. He needs time to learn to play with Casemiro too. Fred as a 10 can provide link up in attack which he has shown decent form before in and he could press higher up to make up for Ronaldo's lack of pressing.

Maybe even that is a bit ambitious. 10-15m* is more than fair for Fred, 30 years old or not.

I meant Euros, it was displayed in euros on transfermarkt. I can't see anyone paying even 15m pounds for 30 year old Fred who is on 100k+ a week, add-ons or not. Outside of United I don't think any serious club rates him as that worthy of such investment.
The sooner he leaves the better for our eyes. Now at his 5th season for the club, he's still the same awful player

Nobody is going to buy Fred. His contract ends in summer '23. We either let him leave on a free or give him a new deal. We do have the option to extend him for one year, but that seems pointless. Even if we extended him for a year, nobody is going to buy him in January when they could get him for free in 6 months.
