Let's see if he'll take him off for the 3rd time after getting a yellow card in the 1st half.
Of course he will. Serious underrating of Fred by people on here.Don't imagine he will keep his place for very long.

There's a reason he's benching Fabinho! maybe you just don't understand why.
Fabinho could easily play in midfield with Casemiro, he's keeping him on the bench. He's not benching Fabinho, Casemiro is.

Fabinho is hardly a sitting CDM is he? go watch him play or Monaco in a 4-4-2 he's a great all round player. Used to play RB too. They're not playing both sitting midfielders against Venezuela and Paraguay, mate.
I like Fred plenty, I'm glad he's getting games for Brazil, but saying he's being preferred to Fabinho just isn't really true.

That would imply Fred is being picked for his attacking qualities. Seems a little unlikely tbh.

Not for his attacking qualities, just for his pressing and workrate. They've already got Casemiro to sit back and cover, they don't need Fabinho doing the same thing.
Fabinho comes on in the 85th minute to replace Fred... to play alongside CasemiroThey're not playing both sitting midfielders against Venezuela and Paraguay, mate.

Winning side late in game in 'bringing on extra holding midfielder' shocker.
Needing another CDM against Venezuela when 2-0 up? they're just giving Fred a restWinning side late in game in 'bringing on extra holding midfielder' shocker.
Neither of the two are exactly regulars for Brazil. Fred’s playing for the first time in three years and they’ve about 25 caps between them. He’s definitely being picked for his pressing and work-rate. At the end of the day it’s all about winning the ball back. Which is something that Fabinho is absolutely fantastic at. So keeping him on the bench is impressive. Certainly goes against the woeful impression of Fred you’d get from reading about him on here.

I don’t think you’ve understood that correctly. About 25 caps between them. That’s exactly the point why it’s impressive. Fred benched a midfielder who has more 25 caps than him for 3 games in a row.

More that neither are exactly regulars for them.Ok understood but why is it relevant to the fact Fred is now the regular one? Fred is starting over Fabinho for 3x in less than 2 weeks.

he’s the perfect foil for neymar. he does all his defensive work and covers the right back so neymar doesn’t have to track back.I thought he and Neymar worked nicely together, although having Neymar in front of you probably makes it look easy.
One would think people would be happy our players are doing well for their NTs. It's not like we had the pleasure of watching too many of them in the Euros so far.

oh come on. Not on the Caf!
im not a big fan of Fred - but I’m delighted he’s playing for Brazil.
unless it’s an older player - where playing internationally can affect their club form. It can only be good for the player and the club. We should want our players to be the best they can be. Playing internationally clearly helps.
i have to seriously question anyone who thinks differently.

Yep, and it's a similar situation with McTominay, who is at his best when he can drive forward with the ball. He can't do that in the pivot. As frustrating as Fred has been for us, it’s because he’s been shoehorned to play as a DM for us (due to squad/depth restrictions) when his Brazil showings showcase us that he’s not meant for that kind of a role.
imo his best position is with a DM behind him so that he can press high and break up play without there being too much worry of him being passed around or dribbled past due to the extra layer of protection between him and the defense
Tbf to him, I think this was his first call up to the NT since 2018, so he should be relatively fresher than most at the Copa America.I’m delighted for him, as a person. I’m sure it’s a big honour for him to pull on the Brazil shirt. Plus being picked ahead of a world class player like Fabinho is a real show of faith.
I’d be lying if I said I was happy though. I’d be much happier it he was lying in a hammock on a beach having a well earned rest. He’s got a good case for being the hardest working player at the club last season and badly needs a break.

Both are massively underappreciated and denigrated for doing a job that really shouldn't be theirs. That they did it last season, helping us to recover from a bad start and ultimately finish 2nd is something that they'll never get credit for, even though they should.
