Did great tonight poor attempt at a finish on his weaker foot mind.

One of the positive note about the Sevilla game is that at least it was our last game which people won’t have a short memory to remember how good Fred is as a player which he has been this season and how he can still do the job in that DM role to buy us more time to sort out other positions first.

.......stuck two fingers up to the haters. Look elsewhere for a scapegoat

Was good but need to calm the feck down. He just never looks in control. Maybe that's why people are so quick to dismiss him. But there is a quality player in him. Just wish he slows down our game and bring calm and composure to our game

I've been hoping to see him in that position to see if he's got what it takes to rotate with Matic, and he's now had roughly 180 minutes worth over the last month. Been good pretty much the entire time. He's shown enough IMO that that position isn't as high priority as what I feared.

Ultimately he's had a very good 2nd season at the club

It's giving me a lot of optimism in how well he's filling in Matic's role against some genuinely good opposition, hopefully means we can avoid burning Matic out. His energy is extraordinarily useful for a number of reasons, he's up and down the pitch constantly which means we rarely sacrifice anything offensively or defensively, to an extent, his attacking play still needs work.

The way he presses is very modern and helps us counter teams who would look to press us into oblivion, I'm a big fan of how Matic has played this season but I have a sneaking suspicion that we'd have been under the cosh a lot more tonight without Fred's energy.

Seconded.

Quick footed bite innadi tackle, prefer the way we play with him in the team 'cos we win the ball higher up but its risky

Was worried to see him today but he was excellent, so many tackles and his energy was very good. I sometimes forget how good he can be.

Man of the match for me after the Seville keeper. If he can continue this then we might hold on the CDM for a while.
Hoping he has a terrific next season.

Is this the Fred thread? Or the thread Fred. Sorry, the Fred Fred.

Better than Djemba Djemba for sure.

Back to the point, he did well tonight.

Lads he is nowhere near good enough. I'm all for supporting the players but if he is in our midfield for years to come we are in big trouble. Come on..

He did really well tonight. Admired his energy and desire to play incisive forward passes. Also proved many wrong in that he couldn’t successfully partner with Pogba. They did well as a team.

Finally he has broken through at United. He is a very reliable squad player, so long as he is given enough minutes in between to keep his form ticking over.

Hoping he continues his rise next season.

You’re a bit obsessed pal.

Ignore
Brilliant. Let's recap.

  1. Thinks Matic should start instead of Fred (fine).
  2. Doesn't want to discuss Fred's performance because he's playing well.
  3. Makes a shit post when we concede, inexplicably trying to make it seem like it's Fred faults.
  4. Then continues to shit post, all the while ignoring any attempt to actually discuss the performance, because logic hurts.
I understand now why I've been told on more than occasion that I shouldn't attempt to engage with you. Ciao.

I agree with you. We play faster with Fred, at a higher tempo but we get counter attacked just as fast. We dont seem as able to impose our selves on a match for a full 90 minutes as a team of 11 with Fred at CDM. Compared this to to when Matic plays at CDM - the guy has days when he plays like he rules the centre of midfield at his own tempo and that really helps us play at our own tempo of possession. Matic is able to almost stay in one area and control that area whilst Fred has to cover alot of area by moving alot around it - ablity to impose control in a match vs ablity to work hard in a match.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this.

I like Fred as a player and as a CM - not as a CDM who accommodates Pogba and Bruno. I personally had doubts about us winning today's match soon as I saw today's starting line Up due to Fred starting over Matic due to exactly the things you talk about.
They created two changes tonight. Both came from individual errors, none of which came from our midfield. Conversely, he won the ball high several times and created chances from it. We utterly dominated Sevilla in midfield, which is why they resorted to long ball football midway through the second half. He didn't dawdle on the ball. We didn't have to play deeper because of his lack of pace and clearly Ole was justified by his decision to play him. Bit strange to find fault in his game based on 'feeling' as opposed to what actually happened. MOTM.

Had a great game. Justified Ole's decision to start him ahead of Matic.

He didn't though. He gave the ball away at an alarming rate and wasted great chances. He can't tackle, he can't press,.he has absolutely zero positional sense.

I don't get it. Imagine having a decent player in that position. What it would do for Pogba and Ferdandes.

Was MOTM along with Bruno for me. He was on pressing them like a rash and we got a lot of free ball from it. Hopefully he works on his shooting over the break.

You are literally on your own. Even those who don't think he's the answer have had to admit he played well tonight. Not sure what game you watched, he did his job (which isn't scoring goals) and if some others did theirs, we'd be in the final

He is playing as a dm. Whether or not he should he playing there is a different argument. Did he do his job in stopping the opposition attacking (not saying he is the only one)? I don't think he did.

He can run around all he wants but ultimately he is a poor man's Ander Herrera.

I don't get why people want a lumbering DM like Matic, nobody plays like this anymore. Just ask City fans if they want 6'3 Rodri in their midfield anymore.

Even if you don't think Fred is the way to go, at least demand someone like Ndidi or with some agility

I would love to see more of that from Fred, he was everywhere and I am very very pleased for him, since the guy always give his all. And Fred don't fecking shoot pal, leave that to your teammates. Otherwise man of the match easily.

He had 90% passing accuracy yesterday. He made 7 tackles, more than anyone else on the pitch. He pressed Sevilla like crazy. What match were you watching?

For saying Fred hasn’t been a starter for a while he looked sharp lasts night and was playing some brilliant passes.

Anyone saying we should sell him should watch the match last night.

Midfield didn't cost us last night. All 3 were decent. Fred showed he has his uses.

The defence and the front 3 did. None of them were better than a 4. Martial should have scored 3. Rashford continues to just look totally out of sorts. Maybe his injury is still playing on his mind. Greenwood struggled to get into too.

He can run around all he wants but ultimately he is a poor man's Ander Herrera.

Is he? Don’t know about that. Ander was a decent player but he was around when our midfield was at its lowest point. I actually liked Ander but looking back I’m not surprised we didn’t try harder to keep him.

Based on last night (and all those weeks when Pogba was injured and he was one of the best players on the pitch every match) I would choose Fred over Herrera. Not going so great for Ander now is it?

Good game by Fred. I'm still not sure if he's what we need going forward, but he's really improved a lot this season.

Indeed. Fred's performance was a definite positive to take from last night.

Of course he did. How many chances did sevilla have? 2?

you clearly don’t like him and your judgement is effecting things.

Past 2 games from Fred in that role have been hugely encouraging. Hopefully he can take that into next season as being able to rely on only Matic will cost the team.

I don't remember them really threatening the goal at any other time except for the two goals, both of which came down the flanks.

It's debatable which one is better defensively, but Fred is a far better passer than Herrera. He plays a much bigger part in controlling the team around when we have the ball.

Another good performance.

He's more competent than people want to admit. He's a really good player and passes the ball really well.

Streets ahead of McTom. On this form - will be hard to drop him. Offers a lot to us

Shame he's nailed on as a scapegoat by the majority without good reasoning

He had a good game in general but not as a holder, he's a box to box, he hunts the ball well and he should be ahead of McTominay in the pecking order, but he's not the answer to partnering Pogba.

Nothing at fault today.
Manager decided to drop shape/structure, calmness and composure by not playing Matic

Hit and rush, Fred is one of our best lively performers.

We know what to expect and there it is. He couldn't score though, or at least chances of him scoring is low, so I wonder why we need him that long today.
