Music Frank Ocean

It's not great is it... :|

Pink & White is easily the best song on there, but I think that's the only song with any decent tempo. It's all very slow and he doesn't even sing on a lot of the songs and barely on others. The skits are crap and needless too.

Some songs might grow on me, I didn't like Ultralight Beam when I first heard it on TLOP and now I think it's great. But pretty disappointed overall.

Also Andre 3000 is amazing.

Hmm hopefully it keeps growing on me then. Loved Channel Orange and I really want to like this.

I really like the album. Overlong maybe but there's a lot of good stuff and in these days of streaming, I'm not sure I need a coherent whole.

Just had a nightmarish vision of a future where music nerds don't care about albums anymore. :(

It's not a modern thing though really, is it? Live shows rarely follow album orders, compilations have existed forever, DJs have always played anything and everything, jukeboxes etc.

Radiohead's track listing is alphabetical on A Moon Shaped Pool.

Sometimes I get so used to an album tracklist that when listening to a song individually I hear the next track in my head as it finishes.

An album is the default unit of music in my head. Usually I'll just dip in and out of most albums but I'm still aware that the songs are part of that overall whole and they each have a certain place within it. The notion of not needing that coherent whole at all sits wrong with me....

Though I have a strong aversion to streaming music anyway so I might just be weird.

Nikes would be my favourite song on the album - probably the year - if it didn't have the pitch alteration. Yet, at the same time it's one of the reasons I like the song so much. :lol: I'd say;

Nights
Ivy
Seigfried
Nikes
Solo

I feel like the biggest issue on the album I think is the three track run from 11-13. Two (very divisive) skits and possibly the weakest song on the album all in such close proximity is a real problem.

Damn this album is so good. I liked it initially, but listening to it a couple more times has made me love it. Not sure if I'll end up liking it as much as Ultra or Orange, but it's still pretty close.

It's growing on me now. Had Nights in my head all morning.

It gets better and better.

Also gave Endless another few listens and I'm a lot happier with it now I know it's not the album.

Anyone listened to the magazine version yet? Blonded I think it's called.
Be terrible if anyone PM'd me a link.

The only difference - I think - is some Japanese lads singing for the last minute of Nikes.

Hasn't it got a few different tracks?

Meh if you cross referenced 10 critics you would get that movie list, its textbook.
The likes of Un chien andalou, Battleship Potemkin and The Last Laugh are obvious flex picks.

I can see him liking stuff like Happy Together and other WKW films, Fassbinder and Kenneth Anger films (Nikes video felt pretty Anger-ish at times).

Nilsson you should read Herzog: A Guide for the Perplexed if you haven't already. It's the best insight into a filmmaker I've ever read.
