Music Frank Ocean

First impressions are really good for me. Andre 3000's feature on Solo (Reprise) is absolutely insane. Ivy, Pink + White, Self Control, and Siegfried stick out instantly.

It's better than average album in the realm of alternative r&b that's currently out there.

Nothing groundbreaking or really worth the wait, certainly not better than Channel Orange in my opinion.
His lyricism is as consistent as ever, but a lot of songs are forgettable. It will do well simply because he has a cult following.

Pink & White being produced by Pharrell with vocals from Beyonce is the stand out track IMO.

Nights, Ivy, Solo, Solo (reprise) (nice little Drake diss there 3k) & White Ferrari are other good tracks.
The rest have their good moments but ultimately quite average, maybe with more plays it will grow on me more.

Don't you think its a bit too soon to make a judgement like that?

Not particularly no, Channel Orange captivated me straight away. I even listened again this morning for comparison's sake, and Blond(e) doesn't have that spark about it. Some really good songs in and amongst some very average songs.

Just listened to the whole thing once through. It isn't immediate as Channel Orange or Nostalgia Ultra was, but I enjoyed it a lot, going to relisten to it right now.

My early early impressions compared to other albums I've listened to this year:

It's definitely better than 'The Life Of Pablo', 'Love You To Death', and 'untitled unmastered'. I like it about as much as 'Coloring Book', 'Everything You've Come To Expect' and 'The Colour In Anything'. Doesn't beat 'A Moon Shaped Pool' though.

And I was hoping Earl Sweatshirt would pop up with a verse. Ah well, the song with James Blake makes up for it.

It’s been a year since I moved to London, at the time of writing this, and there’s no practical reason to drive in this city. I ordered a GT3 RS and it’ll keep low miles out here but I guess it’s good to have in case of emergency :)''

He certainly has great taste in cars.

He's well known for his older BMW's and now GT3 RS' and Rauh Welt (RWB) Porsches, nice.

Not really feeling it on my first listen. Hopefully it's a grower.

I'm only half way through but pretty disappointed so far to be honest.

The 'don't do weed' skit was bizarre.

I've listened to it a few times now and while I'm enjoying it, it's nothing special. Nikes, Solo, Self Control and Nights are the standouts IMO however there are way too many tracks that are 1-2 minutes long and serve as nothing but interludes.

Also those skits are a real low point.

Torture skit on 36 chambers!

Doesn't immediately grab you like Channel Orange, but I'm really enjoying it so far. He's gone for a less poppy style so I have a feeling it'll be a grower. I still haven't properly listened to Endless either yet, its meant to be pretty good.

Andre 3000 comes out with a verse every now and again just to remind everyone he's still the best around.

The opening cover track of The Isley Brothers/Aaliyah on Endless get me every time. Makes me want to burst into tears :(

You'd think Spotify, Apple Music etc. would have a no skits button

So many albums are good with skits the first couple of listens but then there's no need for them.

Have skits ever improved an album?

I think it really works on Prince Paul's second album, especially seeing as Chris Rock did some of them. Think Prince Paul may have been the first to do it? Not sure.

The skits on channel ORANGE are good too.
