Frank Lampard's Sack Watch / Sacked

I appreciate that the Norwegian league isn't in the same bracket as the PL, but I don't know why we keep on ignoring it like it doesn't exist.

Ole coached the reserves here, coached Cardiff and struggled, but then had done very well for Molde (including winning trophies when they weren't always favourites) before taking the United job. I wouldn't put him in the same boat as Lampard at all.

Exactly. Ole did great stuffs at molde before and after Cardiff job.
In many senses, his Cardiff experience looks a lot similar to this Chelsea team, get a lot of new players in short time but don’t have time to integrate them into a great and consistent unit.

I'm 100% surprised Lampard lasted this long at Chelsea if I'm honest.
He was in the top 4 for most of last season after a transfer ban. Not long ago people were saying Chelsea are genuine title contenders. I am not sure why you are surprised. The nature of this season is such that a 3/4 game winning run and Chelsea would have been there or thereabouts for the top four.
I think they have panicked and the availability of a manager with the pedigree of Tuchel made it an easy decision.
As for being surprised he lasted this long, don't know why you are.

With all due respect, Frank being sacked saddens me deeply. I was looking forward to the excuses that the media would have made on his behalf when Chelsea finished 6-8 spots behind Man Utd. Especially after they had spent months telling us, without any basis, that he was dope and Ole was not.

Roman has made it too easy for them. Now, they will just say that he got sacked too soon and didn’t get the chance to turn it around.
 "Dope"

We are miles behind in the management game in Britain.... possibly even more so than we were when it came to developing players years ago. Like genuinely, other than Rodgers - no British manager outside of sentimentality has earned the right to manage at the absolute top..... at least Gerrard's going about it the right way, but even then, he shouldn't be at Liverpool in the next few years, Lampard got his dream gig after a year, is it that hard to be sensible and say ' not yet Romey mate '

Eddie Howe's kind of earnt a run somewhere with money, he's shown a bit of tactical astuteness that others don't show all that much, but it's easier to get away with stuff at a Bournemouth.

I hope they get Tuchel. He's as Overrated as the come and will probably be sacked within 18 months also.
Lampard deserved more time. I think his main problem was starting all the new players too soon. He should have started the season with most of last seasons starting 11 and made the new guys earn their place.

I posted a year ago that now the transfer ban is over his days are numbered simply because he's not a good enough manager.

I am thinking how Chelsea as a club can attract new football fans to become their long term supporters.
Among the top teams in EPL, due to the frequent turnover of their manager/head coach, they have been a team without identity in terms of playing style. Yes, they have no identity at all, because they don’t give anyone enough time to form an identity in the team.

In fairness, he hasn't once been able to field his best front 4. Ziyech, Pulisic and Havertz have been in and out injured.

But no-one could have thought the two German lads would be so poor in their first half season.

At least it may shut up my brother and his klopp needed 5 years lampard is only 1 year in responses to any needling. Not going to hold my breath though, seems his opinions are garnered from football Twitter.

"Lampard deserved more time".

Provide me with a reason why. I've seen this a lot on the forum and I don't quite understand the logic behind it. What are Chelsea good at? What has Lampard improved at Chelsea since being their Manager? Is it just because he's young and English? What signs are there that he could have turned it around?

Pretty much. He doesn't fit with what Chelsea have done. He can't use or get the best use of the players they've bought, bar his surrogate son Mount, they don't seem to like him either. It's literally within everyone's best interest he leaves, including his.

I'd be slightly worried if I were a Chelsea fan. The Hire / Fire approach doesn't seem to have the same success the last 5 or 6 years, with the time they won the title the only title challenge in that time.
In the last 6 years (2015 onwards) we've won the league twice, the fa cup, the league cup and the Europa League.

It's not too shabby!

What is very interesting is Lampard is actually doing better (+1 point) than Ole was last season after 19 games (where we started off awfully and the club stuck with him when it seemed he would be sacked) in a relatively similar situation (lots of new 1st team players coming in). I guess we'll have a pretty good idea of which approach is 'better' come May this year!
That +1 point doesn't mean Lampard is better. Ole was still in the cup semi and winning againts most of top 6 clubs with a worst squad. Only 3 players outside the academy were coming in, and there is no depth. Once Pogba was sidelined, then Martial, and then Rashford, we got screwed by a negative football, but did well againts attacking teams.

At the end of the day, it depends on the club's culture to sack a manager not the points in the league. In my previous post, I said United have had long history giving managers more times, but Chelsea don't.
And a Chelsea fan was replying with a sarcasm when we didn't gave Moyes enough time

I guess you miss some point. Many people probably think a club needs to build a team to play in a way/style and hence establish an identity. It’s not about a particular manager sacked, but the vision the club hierarchy shows which is short term result driven. This is probably the first real hard period Lampard experienced (8 games). The outcome is his sacking just as his every preceding managers earned. They just show again that’s the club hierarchy’s philosophy which disappoints a lot of Chelsea supporters.

That coming from an arsenal fan aswell. Weird take.

In 5 years you've had 1 title challenge winning it, 1 FA Cup, & 1 Europa League. Given how ambitious Abramovich is, that evidently isn't enough. You've not made it past the last 16 in the Champions League since 2014.

That might be enough for Arsenal. I'm not talking as an Arsenal fan here. Im not comparing them to Arsenal, because your owner & club ambitions are on another level from us at the moment, and I'll happily admit that. But considering how the previous decade went under Abramovich, are you telling me that's not a bit of a drop down?

But this time it was Lampards faul. He lost the dressing room, not someone else. He favoured players like Mount to expensive foreign signings, not someone else. He played Kepa for the entirety of the last season when anyone with a brain of a hedgehog would have demoted him.

Who can lampard blame, dare I ask?
If he's lost the dressing room then that's on him, but then again Chelsea squads seem to be that way inclined. So would most, human nature dictates that if you think you can get your immediate superior the sack the moment you don't like him anymore then it sets a pattern for this imo. I think that's why we see it time and again at Chelsea, they know if they down tools the manager gets the sack.

I'm not sure if Lampard was going to be a top manager, I care too little to watch Chelsea games... however Ole has had some low moments here and you have to give people a chance to turn things around.

It sort of makes my blood boil when a dressing room down tools, I mean I hated Lampard when he was a player but a great player he was, he should have commanded the respect of those players just on reputation within the game alone. Who are they to determine he's not good enough, they've won a collective feck all between them (aside from Silva.)

Some of the players he brought in have either been injured or sick and it really does take time to settle in for some players, especially in these times when their families might not be round them. Would it have hurt Chelsea that much to let him see out the season. Tuchel is poisonous. He will get them playing better, but will alienate everybody at the club eventually.
I agree with this. I shouldn't be shocked but didn't think they'd be this ruthless with a Chelsea legend.

Sad but looked inevitable with recent results. Chelsea don't play around. Wish Lampard all the best and he'll always be welcomed back to the bridge, hopefully with a lot more experience.

No of course not, all that matters is where a manager ends up each season rather than where they are at a specific point. It's simply going to be a very interesting watch to see the two ends of the spectrum (United giving time & Chelsea taking no prisoners) develop because the scenarios are, broadly speaking, comparable.

What would your expectations of Tuchel be out if interest? For me if he can get them back to top four that'd be impressive given Spurs/Leicester strength. I almost feel he can finish in the EL and people wouldn't want him sacked given they're 9th.

Well, that ended up being a dreadful experience from start to finish. Didn't win anything, didn't build anything, didn't leave much to be remembered by their fans as their manager.

Sacking a manager in this congested season makes no sense. Especially after a win in FA cup. Roman and his antics.

Anyway, let's see how well Tuchel does in EPL.

Held talks with him before he signed for PSG. We were in the middle of a transfer ban though, so he went to Paris instead.
Dont think he was ready for the gig. He came in with a what looked like a philosophy of how to play the game but that dissapeared ages ago. Looks like he's been throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks for about a year at this point. Think he needs a couple of years experimenting basically and seeing what works for him and Chelsea isn't the place to do that.
Looks he could be a pretty good manager some day to be fair, just looks very inexperienced

I don't get the last part.

Hearing it a lot on talksport earlier he destined for great things etc but what are people seeing. He hasn't showed anything in my opinion that stands out where you would think he got something about him.

Jordan was saying other day he thinks lamps will be elite manager where as Ole won't. Gave no reasoning for it.

Talking absolute nonsense as he just got sacked at Chelsea and he never manager another top club rest of his career now to even get close to elite status of show he a top manager. Chelsea not employ him again and he never manAger us, Liverpool or even Arsenal. His best bet is westham job at some stage but he have to show something in the lower divisions first to even get a sniff at that.

I don't think so, he absolutely pales in comparison to the other attacking midfielders in the league who are meant to be his peers.
5 vs 19 (Fernandes) 8 (Grealish) 4 (de Bruyne)
3 vs 9 (Fernandes) 8 (Grealish) 17 (de Bruyne)
1.2 vs 2.9 (Fernandes) 3.4 (Grealish) 3.0 (de Bruyne)
0.1 vs 0.3 (Fernandes) 0.1 (Grealish) 0.2 (de Bruyne)
6.81 vs 7.50 (Fernandes) 7.70 (Grealish) 7.64 (de Bruyne)
I didn’t say he was the best, I said he’s been excellent for them. Which he has, when he hasn’t been injured. He’s been in and out which probably reflects on his stats
