Frank Lampard

Getting rid of Potter now seems like a ridiculous idea when you dont have anyone else lined up except Lampard.

By Lampard's body language in that press conference it looks like he's already under pressure.

Madness.

Total confusing situation. They're not doing great but it's not like they getting thrashed every other game. They're 1 point away from the usual 40+ point safe zone. So unless permanent manager appointment is ready, it's more reasonable to write this season off.

Do Boehly think he can pull a CL final off with Lampard? I know they'd done it twice (seconds away for another with Hiddink first interim tenure, too) under Abramovich. But Lampard is a damaged good for Chelsea as well as this season with Everton. Just can't organize a defense which is usually the way to weather the storm and get results short term in CL.

Shouldn’t the thread title contain “sack watch” in it. This is Chelsea we are talking about here

Squires must be loving this  Boehly and the other dude who said Chelsea wasn't managed that well before they arrived, they are a real dynamic duo aren't they? Dumb and Dumber on roids.

He's getting sacked end of the season
Their fixture list is super tough.

Lampard is not known for his ability to build a solid defense. He can easily get sacked if they get battered by couple of the teams they face.

This is just a caretaker's position.
Chelsea were never going to finish in the top four and are certainly not going to win the Champions League this term. Who better to pacify the fan base in the short-term?

If the owners want to be absolutely sure about the next manager before signing him, then this makes a lot of sense to me. If Lampard is among those being considered for a long-term position, then I will be convinced that Boehly et al have no clue about football.

Didn't need to sack Potter if they decide to write the season off. Having to pay extra for Lampard appointment with little/zero upside.

As disappointing as Potter, reading from all the Chelsea related threads, it's not like Chelsea fan wanted him go before this season end at all cost if not for a permanent appointment.

Whether you rate him or not (and most people don't) Solksjaer must be wondering how the feck he hasn't had an offer from a decent team yet when this clown somehow keeps getting PL gigs.

Hard to tell on the basis he didn't make the call.
Does it matter? He is the owner so responsible for the structure, putting competent people in charge, etc. It’s Glazers‘ fault after all that they relied on Woodward for example.

Is he an English national legend who helped the team reach many quarterfinals on major forums ? Is he feck.

All reports are saying he had nothing to do with this decision.

Is quite amusing seeing just how many people aren't paying attention
You do realise that Boehly is just synonymous with those feckups in charge of Chelsea? People just use the terms interchangeably, and Boehly’s an effective shorthand. It’s not people getting confused about the details, it’s about people not caring about that level of detail.

How does a failed Aston Villa manager (and the replacement is clearly better) get a caretaker position and a bigger club? :wenger:

At least he didn't get appointed just before facing us. Hopefully any good feel factor he might have, is gone by then.

Super Frank Lampard is back at the bridge.
No matter what will be next, I will try to enjoy it.

I’d rather we did play them straight after his appointment… would have battered them while they still get use to any tactics/changes lampard wants to make. When we face them they could get into some kind of form.

He was hopeless in Europe the last time Bayern cruised to a 3:0 win at Stamford Bridge.

He's not our owner, Clearlake are.

It's been pretty well reported that since the January transfer window that Eghbali has been taking the lead. There was even an announcement that Boehly was stepping down from his role he had at the beginning.

At absolute most he's a second in command to the former at this moment in time.

I assumed that when Potter was sacked it was because they'd had the greenlight from somebody like Enrique or Naglesman and were moving early because they were worried about another club snapping them up.

It's genuinely mind boggling that they sacked Potter to bring in Lampard!

Utterly bizarre.

Must be chaos behind the scenes at Chelsea

Yes he’s just the figure that became the face of the ownership group. You’re attributing a level of specificity to the comments that doesn’t actually exist. They’re not getting mixed up, they don’t care.

Again who cares? Swap it to whoever the owner is/are. Whoever decided to get rid off Tuchel, then hire Potter, then get rid and now hire Lampard. Even if the owner is fine with the tea lady making the decision it doesn’t change anything. The decisions being made are ridiculous and equally damaging regardless of what the person‘s name or position is.

I can’t help but feel like if you gave Potter 3/4 seasons he would build Chelsea into an excellent team. Instead they sack him after 2 minutes and reappoint Lampard. Mental. If we sack ETH and bring back Ole I’ll stop supporting us. Even if we are in the bottom three

Politician aside, is there any job in the world that rewards failure like being a football manager?

I mean, we know what lampard does at chelsea. He fails hard enough to get sacked.
Ancelotti got the sack from Madrid and they took him back. So it can work. But this is Frank Lampard…

Why do you assume he hasn't had offers?

Carlo went to Bayern, Napoli and Everton, his win % at the latter not far off double Lampard's 27%.

If sacking Potter was a football descision, there's no way appointmenting Lampard is.

It all smacks of headless chicken knee jerking by the owners. Lampard is surely a PR move to keep fans onside.

It wouldn't surprise me if Potter was sacked because social media engagement fell off or they weren't selling the expensive seats easily enough...

Really does not bode well for their ownership that's for sure.
