Frank Lampard | Coventry City?

The Ali and vdb signings are looking stranger and stranger.

Getting an attacking mid didn't necessarily seem the priority... Getting 2 totally weird as in how is he going to play them both

Then not even playing one of them... Yeah strange

Is there a way for Super Frankie the manager but Burnley, the club, to be relegated? With all of the advances in science in recent years there must be something we can do.

Feels like Chelsea will be kind and donate three points to their hero next Sunday, they don't have a great recent record at Goodison unless Duffer and co can put me straight on that.

Win that and they're right back in the battle to stay up.

Are Burnley less likeable than Everton?

I can't see it (that's not to say we may not conspire to lose anyway).

Apparently Frank left on bad terms with quite a few members of the squad, if that's true they'll love nothing more to stick the boot him.

Depends what team you put out I think. You play Man. United on the Thursday evening now so imagine Tuchel will start likes of Silva and Kante v them and then rotate heavily for the early Sunday game.

You've only just beaten Newcastle and depleted West Ham last minute at home when kicking off at 2pm on a Sunday so do think Everton will get something next weekend if they defend o.k.

Obviously if you go full strength then you should have no problems but likes of Rudiger and Kovacic are injured aren't they.

Shock win for Everton and they're massively back in it again.

I hope someone rips HIM apart for the way he had Everton play today. They are better than that.

In what world? Everton need to stop trying to be something they aren't. They're not going to become this free flowing attacking football team they've constantly tried to become since Moyes left. They should have embraced what they are and who knows with the level of investment they had they might have had some success doing it

I would be glad to see them beat Liv just at the moment but I can’t see that Everton played alright to be honest. 17% possession must be close to the record lowest. All things are relative and if we expected them to have even less of the ball and show even less ambition, get beat 4 or 5 (like we did) then you could say not bad for a team who ought to get relegated. Pretty grim way of looking at it.

Actually I was rooting for the draw as I’d love to see Frank go down and Liv miss out on the league. Small crumbs of comfort but not much left of interest from a United point of view so, erm, whatever.

Brighton play some of the best football in the league with far less investment, all it takes is a good manager and every big club especially one as big as Everton in the past should aspire to play ‘Good Football’.

I didn't say they shouldn't aspire to play good football, there's more than one way to skin a cat

He'll be sacked with or without relegation. I think his reputation as a premier league manager is damaged beyond repair at this point. Can't think of any club taking risks on him anymore. Expect him to join other failed managers at Sky soon.

He was lucky to play us in that run in. Else , they would be pretty much relegated now.

Shame - I like Everton and would have preferred them to stay than Burnley.

I feel sorry for him in a way. He's made mistakes but it would have been silly to not expect that from a manager who doesn't have the experience of his last two jobs. Realistically he should have been nowhere near a title hunting team or a 'big' team seriously threatened with relegation but he and those clubs have put themselves in that position. I think he's done some good things though. The way he has set us up in some games shows he has a semblance of tactical nous and he and his coaching staff have clearly worked on and improved some players such as Mykolenko. I think he's sensible enough to realise how to rile up players/fans in terms of morale too. If we are relegated though that's sadly all he will be remembered for. I stand by my thought that relegation is because of a bigger and wider problem than Lampard which is first and foremost the owner and secondly how disastrous Benitez was for the team and atmosphere at and around the club.

I don't understand the strong dislike for him here.

Yeah he's a bit of a shit manager and there might be a semblance of unwarranted arrogance, but he's always come across as a decent enough bloke in his playing days. He isn't Slippy G or some ex Scouse managerial chancer for him to warrant the hate he gets here.

There were games for us (especially in the first season) where the potential of a great coach was clear to see. Throughly outsmarted Mourinho twice (first manager to do the double over him), outplayed Ajax away and had us competiting toe to toe against both Liverpool and City (first team to ever have more possesion over a Pep team). The appointment of Anthony Barry as a defensive/set piece coach (and trying to poach him when he got the job with you) shows that he does know his weaknesses and got in a specialist coach in that position.

Ultimately he made far too many rookie mistakes and the decision to sack him was right but there is a good manager in there somewhere.

He's got sonething. The potential is there. I remember us going away to Ajax and just kept on adjusting to whatever Ten Hag was doing, we flipped between multiple formations and systems to counter the adjustments Ten Hag was making and it worked as we got the late winner. I saw examples of that kind of tactical nous and in game management many times but we also saw his inexperience and his shortcomings show many times. Id hoped he'd take a less pressure cooker job than Everton to really iron out his shortcomings.

This was a disastrous job to take because he essentially had to hit the ground immediately or face the threat of relegation becoming a very real problem for him and he's here now with a huge mountain to climb to gain safety

I don't really have a horse in this race but there's two things that are a bit funny for me over the whole Lampard saga:
1. The Everton fans literally protesting against the club appointing that Portuguese manager, only to have ended up with Lampard who has won 3 of 13 PL matches; and
2. The fact that he apparently turned down Palace because they were a relegation-threatened side, only to end up with what he's done to Everton.

I think Rafa is dog shite too and did a lot of damage, but I think Lampard is properly shite.

Just goes to show how dangerous it is to hire ex-professionals on reputation alone shortly after retirement, it says nothing about their competence or ability to convey their supposed knowledge onto others. Great players seldom become great managers, the proof is in the pudding isn't it. This has been a romantic attempt for many years now, but surely clubs have learned and we will see less of it, leading to more deserved candidates getting a try instead of useless ex-pros trying to find a new hobby after retirement. Sherwood, Lampard, Solskjær, Gerrard, the list is growing larger by the day, all of them have tried to solve things with pashun and vibes, but it takes them nowhere. Gerrard started to look like someone with something else, but he too is completely useless when it comes to changing things around when the first approach isn't working. A lot of Villa's downturn is down to Grealish leaving and players getting injured, but they really have gone backwards since Gerrard got there and the fans are soon wanting him out-out.

He's a poor manager, but he got it right against Liverpool. Anyone thinking they would had a chance playing otherwise is deluded.

I wish we had played against Liverpool like they did, sure time wasting diving cnuts but at least they showed some fight.

A decent number of United fans have a chip on their shoulder about the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was treated by the media compared to Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta.

The Ole In crowd really dislike him because he got more plaudits/praise than Ole and that he got a half decent (albeit sabotaged by Rafa) PL gig when Ole will never get another one.

I'm not an Ole in'er or a United fan , I just think he's a bit of a prick who throws his players under the bus when the going gets tough(Or directs the blame elsewhere).

I don't think he's a good manager either and trades on his reputation as a player, but that's not his fault.

True. I think getting a big job after retirement based on your reputation as a player is never a good idea. Coaching under good managers would be much more beneficial and would help them learn a lot without damaging their reputation.

Agreed. I don't actually understand why people rate him as a Manager. Underperformed at Chelsea and very close to relegating Everton. Pretty sure Everton are the worst performing side in the league, even Norwich has managed 3 wins and 2 draws in the league since Lampard took over and surely the Everton squad is better than Norwichs.

Yup but he has a legion of fans in the traditional media (and on social media) who will make his excuses for him.

What do you think Moshiri will do if you would get relegated? Any change he'll leave and you'll get an owner whose policy/direction will make more sense for the club?

I have no idea which is worrying. He’s too unpredictable. The problem with relegation is even if he does stay we are pretty fecked due to our finances. We rely on stuff like the tv money so without it we are going to struggle. There is every likelihood that we could be relegated and then struggle to get out of the Championship or even worse get relegated again.

Do you think that your management had the foresight to put relegation clauses in the players contracts? Or would you be liable to pay massive wages if you go down?

I would be very surprised as relegation has never seemed like a possibility before this season post-Moyes.

Can't really blame him for losing against Pool but is he gonna get "sacked in the morning" if they are relegated? This is another bad mark on his managerial career.

Don't you get those parachute payments? And shouldn't your squad be easily good enough to get you back up again with a decent manager? (Assuming not everyone leaves...)

Our squad should be easily enough to stay in this league but they let us down every week. Parachute payments are chunky but so are our debts. The best players at the club are the ones that would leave aside from probably Gordon.

Ouch. Well, erm - good luck...
