Uruguay striker Diego Forlan could be on his way to Manchester United.
Reports have linked United with a £4.5million move for the 22-year-old.
His club Independiente deny receiving an offer from United.
But they admit that they have been approached by a third party with interest from a number of European clubs, including the Old Trafford side.
"We have not received an official offer but we know through third parties that there are clubs that are interested in the player, including Manchester United," said club vice-president Fernando Sciacalugga.
Argentina is in a state of financial crisis following the devaluation of the peso and, as most top players are paid in US dollars, the Buenos Aires club are willing to listen to offers which will bring in foreign currency.
Forlan, who joined Independiente in the 1998-1999 season, is ready to leave after already expressing a wish to move to Europe.
"Independiente are a selling club who are willing to sell at the right price," added Sciacalugga.
"For the players, Europe is a professional temptation
