Football retires from Zlatan Ibrahimovic (now son continues his legacy)

That elbow. Such sweet revenge. My best memory of him. At the same level with Keano getting back at Viera.

If not for the injury, I honestly think he had at least two more very good seasons in him for us. He was so much more than I thought when we signed him. His goal, and all-round performance in the Community Shield made me realise how strong he was and how good in the air he was. A thorough professional from day one. Could do worse than get him on the coaching staff, not that he'll need a job

I hope he goes into punditry, he seems like a good fit
His sole mission should be to make Pep cry and retire from football. And we're not talking about managing National Team kind of retirement but selling minoxidil in the streets kind of retirement.

Was watching his goals for United, there are a few where he just bullied the defenders. It just made me think of Weghorst who is actually bigger than Zlatan yet couldn't even bully anyone.

Football Legend who never quite reached the heights his early potential suggested to be like CR7 or Messi.

And seemed to be a bit of a big-game bottler.

United will be a footnote in his career though sadly. a football legend not a United legend.

Amazing player.

But Rooney, Drogba, Aguero, Eto'o, and Tevez were all better.

He was good here but far from great. There is a 5 min video of his season here with Pogba creating chance after chance for him and he misses so many it's unreal. He had a hard time with the pace of our league. I don't care about the 27 goals. Should have been 37.

This. I feel like he underachieved in his career. As daft as it sounds. And went to the Farmers MLS league too young.

should become a coach.

Didn't realise until now that his only European title was with us (I'm assuming he got a medal, even though he didn't play the final?)

Yes every player gets a medal that was registered for the tournament

I have been lucky enough to see many great strikers play for United. He was not one of them, a level below. Something was missing with him. I did not like the football we played with him either. Also despite his longevity he never won the CL.
And his/the jokes around him are not funny.

Perfect mentality for United. He had a superb influence on Pogba and rest of the chaps. One of the last United players who didn't accept mediocrity. Jose capitalised massively on his friendship with him, during first season here.

Compare to what is now, it's an absolute wasteland without a spark of character between attackers. Hope we can change that in near future.

Good luck, Zlatan.

He was already a veteran player when he joined us, can't blame his limitations.

Great player and very unique in his style as well. Young Zlatan was a whole different beast as well.

He had an incredible career but I wish he was born in a world cup regular nation to see him appear in more internationals. I also wish he had joined/us the premier league earlier. Contrary to what most think I thought his time with us was a bit lukewarm. Maybe because I had seen the Zlatan of old and knew what he once was.

I always found the memes surrounding Zlatan a bit cringe but he truly was the sort of player you would just love to watch. I so hope he goes into management!

Scored my GOAT goal with his long range bycicle kick vs England.

I don’t know why I like the look of such goals much more than a player running through 5 average players and chipping the goalkeeper.

Shame he wasted four of his best years in France. I love RVP but imagine if we signed him back then and then built the team around him.

Has the best goals highlight reel in the whole of football history.

Legend of football! Just so glad he played for us, even though we basically only saw him for 1 season!

One of my all time favourites. Congrats legend. So happy that we had the chance to have him in our shirt for a year!

He has been around forever, it feels like.

He really is in a different generation of players, players that typically retired about 5-7 years ago, i remember him playing for Ajax when i was a kid, heck, he was even in the football games of early 2000s(CM 01/02 etc).

Had his issues, particularly being the main guy in UCL, but incredible career, many great moments, and certainly a memorable character.

Just watched a video of all his goals in his debut season. It’s insane how we’ve gone from that to WW.

I miss having someone with that kind of aura as our CF. Should’ve signed him under Fergie too.

My favourite player no 1 of all time! Never reached the heights of Messi and Ronaldo, but alongside Ronaldinho he was the greatest entertainer. His unique technique in combo with his attitude gave gave us the most beautiful goals in football history.

I remember when I sat in the curva at the old Malmo stadium and this cocky teenager scored two amazing goals against AIK. Beautiful moments. And I have so many more. So many beautiful moments that I will remember for the rest of my life.

I wish we’d gone for him (and T.Silva) when Milan was selling them in that 2012 summer.… But RvP probably looked like the cheaper and safer bet. And to be fair he didn’t disappoint.

Do we think he knows who J. Barton is?

Still remember this goal, probably my favourite of his ever and the one that really announced him

Still trying to get attention by somehow connecting himself with Ibra I see....
Jonathan Barton should be ashamed of himself.

Is he? Weghorst looks a little lightweight to me.

He had a dual cruciate ligament and complete meniscus tear, recovery rate for pro play is <2% physically and combined with the mental aspect close to 0% so can't really blame him for "retiring" as his outlook was bleak at that point.

Him, Bruno and Casemiro have been the three mentality monsters we’ve had since Sir Alex retired.

Ibra was playing when I was a kid! Incredible career with so many different clubs. He absolutely bossed league championships for a period of time. Dominated.

The ultimate flat track bully striker with a bit of style thrown in. I can’t remember a tall player been better than him - 6’3 or above in football history?

Legend.

His highlight reel of his best goals will probably be up there with the most amazing of all time.

Really glad we got to see him at United

I remember a game against Fiorentina i think it was when he played for Inter.

That game he played so good that i almost never seen such a player. I think he just ended up with 1 or 2 goals but he played in a way where it seems he could create a dangerous chance or shot on goal even if he was outside the penalty area. If i remember correctly he had like 2 woodwork hits and made some strange shot when there were no danger at all but that shot hit the woodwork out of nowhere and the Fiorentina GK never saw it coming.

Very special player. As someone said, maybe the best with the ball at walking speed or coming from nowhere.

Highlight-reel of doom. Ibracadabra. Great addition to the football history and one of the most entertaining players to see in action all time for me.

Such a great player, wish we'd signed him earlier. I'm sure we're gonna see him in a movie!

Good player capable of special moments but an absolute dickhead.
