Gaming Football Manager 2025 | Delayed til March 2025

I'm not disputing the sega trailer. They've quite clearly just uploaded that and never looked at it again. The description still has the November release.

The Football Manager youtube page has (allegedly) edited the trailer on their page today to blur out the release date. I don't know which release date was in that video, but a lot of comments are saying it was visible earlier today/yesterday.

Indeed, I was just pointing out that SEGA still had the release date in it for November. Seems to be a disconnect there somewhere between the two.

It is also lazy from SI on their own channel to not blur out the from November part under the road map at the end of their trailer when they've gone to the trouble to blur it out else where in the video.

"Lazy from SI" could describe basically everything about this franchise at this point.

This feels like the end. So much of the game has been ripped apart. They've been so fecking useless with half ass features, with promises they can't fulfill and a game which seems to be far too difficult to implement.

Looks like the roadmap has been updated at least:

I’ve always thought they should release the beta at the end of May, just as the season is finishing up. It would fill that lack of football game nicely and they’d sell loads.

Then release the full game just as the window closed with all the updated transfers and in line with the actual season it is representing.

They really should've just released a free update for 24 and worked on 26 to release earlier than usual, around September. Think the majority would've been happy with that.

But they chased the money instead and have a real risk of fading away altogether now.

Probably not their shareholders though

No denying this has been a total shitshow though. Poor management from start to finish.

It probably didn't even need to be free.

They probably could have got away with charging a tenner for it.

I don't think they're publicly traded.
Sega is though. If you are familiar with Total War and Creative Assembly, Sega are pretty hands off until feck ups cause too much losses. Then they come down like a ton of bricks. SI could end up with a lot of lost jobs over this.

Surely, they'd just be better off releasing this in like August with the new transfer updates and skipping 25? The bigger under-discussed issue, is even if this does come out in March, they've then got 6 months to turn around another game to hit their typical October release window.

I half wonder if this new match engine has just totally broken the game.

Think they are under pressure to release in the fiscal year.

Someone found this interesting snippet in their companies house financial reports

"Community engagement is also critical success factor as we transition to a 'Games as a Service' (GaaS) business model designed to provide players with an enhanced gameplay experience through additional content and subscription-based offerings".

So they basically become/steal SortitoutSi business model?

These idiots have got it all wrong. Who thinks that subscription-based offerings in games is providing players with enhanced gameplay?

There was speculation that this just refers to the game being part of Gamepass and Apple Arcade.

The problem is that they are so bad at communicating with their customer base who knows?. We are just left to speculate and it's hard not to assume the worst from them.

The whole game has been proven to be a front for a really basic result simulator. Nothing on the surface is real or even really matters.

It isn’t any wonder that they haven’t been able to make a game on this engine. The one we have been playing is basically a dice game with basic graphics.

Good point actually. This game when you break down the physics and detail is just a series of numbers with some element of dice rolling as you say. The original and some would say best version of this game was in its early years as a text based or 2D animation so you could set sliders and roles for players.

It's basically added too much to the game which has broken other aspects of it and really it's a complete mess. I still get the feeling they are trying to keep lots of elements from the previous engine which won't work with the new one. They don't have the quality of staff to code this version into a version which made the game popular, so they know it won't appeal to a big chunk of the community who have stayed loyal to the series. This is why they won't release any detail or footage because it won't resemble any previous versions. It's broken and they know it.

You can probably make a decent football simulator just fine. I would imagine the issue is the licensing.
Licensing and the scouting network are probably the big obstacles. FM24 had almost 500k real players in the database and even if the scouting isn't excessive it still needs to be done. SI is mainly using it's fan base for this so costs are not that high but for a potential competitor that has no fan base to rely on for scouting it would probably be an big investment to build a player database of that size.

I think a competitor would probably have to start small and grow.

It'd be like the old unlicensed PES games with Goggs playing for Man Red, but if they packaged in a decent editor it'd soon be "licensed".
