Football Manager 2008

I've suddenly turned shite at this. Can't win with anyone, even United. Opposition constantly dominating the possesion, even rubbish teams, can't keep a clean sheet no matter what. Got a proper migrane from playing it.

do you change tactics for every game or keep them consistant? You need to build a team gradually, no sudden dramatic changes, try and keep more or less the same squad and when you find a suitable formation keep it. Reduce the amount of freedom you give your players and set each player to their specific position (defender, centre back....so on) oh and dont play your back line too higg up the pict and dont play too direct a game, make your team keep the ball a bit more.

I'm normally Utd,
Although i do have a game with Hyde, in which i have been promoted 3 seasons out of 4.

I'm Bohemians in the Irish Premier Division, tough enough, all your good players want to leave as soon as they start playing well.

I started at Bari in Serie B, after a few seasons I got fired (although I won the African Cup twice with Ivory Coast at the same time).

I then got hired by Coventry, got them promoted to the Championship and kept them there for 2 seasons.

Then went to AZ Alkmaar, finished 2nd and 3rd got into Europe.

Then to Celtic, won the Scottish Cup and the SPL.

After a season I got poached by Arsenal, in which I finished 2nd (after United) The next year it was the last 4 of the CL and a third placed finish - along with a semi-final defeat in the world cup with Holland.

That summer I got hired by United and England. Finished 2nd and won the UEFA & FA cup.

I usually start with United, but it's quite nice to work your way there. The only downside is all the favourite players have moved on by then.

I always play as Dusseldorf in the German regional league north.

They have a massive stadium so the potential to turn them into a big club is there.

I tend to enjoy long term games so I don't like to start out with a big club because the challenge/enjoyment isn't there when you can just buy the best players right off ;p

I like to discover regens.

That's how the game should be played.

I'm trying to get Gillingham into the Championship, trouble is their players are so shit and their finances aren't worth a wank.

I lucked out at Coventry, they were mid-table rubbish but as soon as I took over they suddenly started winning everything. I also used my connections with the Ivory Coast to pull in decent young players for cheap, they were more inclined to sign for me as I was their national coach.

Incidentally you would love the alternate reality of my FM world. Your lot are the Premiership powerhouses and pull in only 5,000 less punters than United each week, without a massive debt. :(

Hehe, they won the Prem the first year and Torres walked away with all the awards. Second season I'm doing a little better with the Gills, can't get consistency though, I'm praying for that 6th place!

I'm in 2012, started with Watford, got them promoted, then finished 14th, 13th, 10th and 4th last year. In the champions league with CSKA Juve and Bayern all in my group

Gillingham, 09/10 season. In the Championship after promotion last season, very decent looking side, facvourites to go down but so far I've beaten some top sides and have made a very good start, my only loss coming in a fluke last minute winner away at Norwich. Billy Sharp is a god.

My last game was with Brentford. Got them promoted to the Premiership. Reached a FA Cup semi final, only played 5 seasons though.

My most epic game was with Cambridge United. Won the Champions League after 7 seasons or something

How are you guys managing a national and international side? Are you using two different users?

You mean club and country?

If so, then you can have both jobs at the same time (same user). Makes for a more interesting summer most of the time. Usually a national team will just approach you, I think (and I maybe wrong) that you can apply for a vacant national post? Countries usually shed managers after they have a stinker of a tournament, be on the lookout then.

Just finished a treble winning season with the gunners.

Matias Fernandez 20 goals, Adebayor 19 goals, Eduardo 26 goals, Villa 22 goals, Bendtner 14 goals.

Something tells me thats not going to happen again for me.

Van Persie left me after my first season stating he has achieved all he can at Arsenal. He signed for Everton who pipped liverpool for champions league in my first season. He had a quiet season and at the start of the 3rd hes done his cruciate and out for 9 months.

Just about to play this game but gonna be a tight arse and download it can you upload the new patches onto a downloaded game like the qpr 19 million one?

Anyone got a link to where I can download the full game ?

I have just started my second season with Q.P.R. Got promoted to the premiership in my first season after ending as number 6 in the ccc and winning the play-offs in a hard fought final against west brom.

Jesus how many leagues do you start with? It must take you a month to play a season.

This time I started with England (down to conference), SPL down to the third, Italy A & B, Spain, Germany and Holland.

But that is one of the features of the new 2008 version. They said that they intended to drastically cut loading time so it's possible to run all those leagues and have the game compute faster than my 2007 game with only 3 leagues.

I did try this many leagues when I first got FM05 (I think) and it took almost half an hour the first time I hit continue.

Yes, I would only download patches off the official site.

EDIT: But if you mean a saved game.. then no.

I tried downloading a patch to update my football manager game but because the original game was downloaded it says i need to insert the disc everytime i try and start it. Anyone any ideas or if not does anyone have a link for a torrent with the updated patch in it?

Place this patch in your: C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008. But do it after you have installed the official update, other wise it gets overwritten. Enjoy

What is a regen?

The game starts to create new players after a year or so, otherwise the number of people would slowly decrease as players got old and retired. After a decade or so, there'd be no one left :p

So it creates new ones. Old systems used to just put players back in much younger (so Ryan Giggs would reappear as a seventeen year old Gyan Riggs who was identical in every way), but the newer ones create players totally independently of the elder ones. It's fun, and it adds that factor of signing a young player you know nothing about (because he doesn't exist in real life), and then nurturing him into a footballing God.

Finished 4th in the first season with Milan, now in 2008/09. Had to get some wingers since Seedorf and Gourcuff are the only decent ones in the squad. Bought Renato Augusto and Giovinco to beef up that position, the latter joined after his loan at Empoli.

Gilardino was shit, 32 appearances and only 7 goals. However he's brilliant this season, 9 apps and 7 goals so far. Inzaghi was the third top scorer with 10 goals last season despite making 25 apps as a sub, Kaka was top with 21 goals. Alex Pato was second despite only being eligible to play in January 2008. Ronaldo left on a free after refusing to sign the contract, injured most of the time and only managed to play 10 times last season. Signed Henri Saivet and scored for fun in the U20s, one for the future.

Maldini is retiring soon, tried to get Barzagli but the Madrid cnuts got him instead. Bastards put a release clause of £26.5m on him so I only managed to sign him this season after activating the clause. During the first season I played Jankulovski at left back, Kaladze/Nesta pairing in the centre and Oddo at right back.

I played 4-2-3-1, briefly changed to 4-4-2 since Ambrosini and Pirlo were injured last season, and also to accommodate Pato. Knocked out of the CL in the 1st knockout stage by United. I'm doing well so far, and hopefully win the Scudetto this season or risk getting sacked. :nervous:

Ouch, sorry Marcos.. :D

(Incidentally Roberts & Ruddy are the United front-line..)

It's a programme that allows you to search your save game database, and will show you all the players/staff attributes including the hidden attributes, eg Potential/Current Ability etc.

So all it does is show all the attributes for all the players so you don't have to scout them?
