Haven't played in FM since 2013 or 2014, I think, but Cristiano should drop quite a bit with age as he is supposed to be the one with outstanding physical qualities, unlike Messi?

He should be a top level player for at least 4-5 years. I think it's down to his mental/hidden attributes that he doesn't regress early.

That's true. I think the best way to do it is to have a good balance between players at their peak and young talents.

Retention of ability is based on playing time, form, and natural fitness, so yep- Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo last until they are 35-ish injuries permitting.
