Florian Wirtz | Leverkusen player

The second goal was Grimaldo, flash score also thought it was Wirtz though

I didn't think it was him, I've just said "you've scored again" because Zehner is a Leverkusen fan :)

:+1: I want him to become a household name in years to come, good for him...you've just scored again, I'm a lucky charm it seems

Lucky charm indeed. Keep going :cool:

Or, you know, we just extend Musiala.
You sure about that?

Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has admitted the club are finding contract talks with star player Jamal Musiala “difficult”.
Musiala has become a key man at Bayern since leaving Chelsea in 2019, but his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season.
The 21-year-old shone for Germany at Euro 2024 this summer, finishing the competition as joint top-scorer and being named in the team of the tournament.
Musiala is attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League, but Bayern are determined to overcome any hurdles to keep him.
“It’s difficult, but not impossible - as Jamal knows what he has at Bayern Munich,” Eberl told German TV channel Sport1.
“He grew up here and has brought himself to this level. Talks are intensifying. We are extremely ambitious and he knows that he wants to win titles.”

- That´s your director of sport talking to German newspaper 18th September.

The article also mention that Bayern have more important players that wants new contract, like Kimmich, Sane, Davies, Dier, Neuer, Muller all in 2025 and Musiala, Goretzka, Gnabry, Upamencano, Guerreoiro, etc etc. And there is zero chance that you can offer all them what they believe they deserve, some because they are in their prime, some because its their last big contract, some because they are one of the best in world in their position, some because big clubs with a lot of money and attract power will take advantage of your shitty contract situation and some will have a big contract because they have been in Bayern for a long time and want a reward for their loyalty.

And if you dont win the league this year, and in CL you have at least 4-5 much better teams with higher chance of winning it - you will lose A LOT of the attract power you had the last 10-15 years when you were winning the league for like 10 years and where a contender for the CL every year, so the best players will seek for either A LOT of money to stay or you bringing in like 5-6 world class players because you will need to replace at least 4-5 positions where you had players who were one of the best in their position in their prime (Neuer, Muller, Goretzka, Kimmich) and if players like Davies, Musiala, Gnabry and Sane decides to leave - you will need to build a new team while not being the Bayern 2013-2018 who could attract the best players in Germany at least (Wirtz is one you would need to sign to start with) and even bring in some big names from other leagues like you used to (Kane, Sane, Davies, Musiala).

I am only saying this because you club have made some weird decisions the last 4-5 years (sacking Nagelsmann was the maybe the worst), second one is to hang on with players who you should have replaced already (Neuer, Muller etc) and third the most worrying is having so many important players with 9-24 months left on their contract and mot having extremely much money to extend and make all of them satisfied and at the same time having 3-4 important players entering their last years of their carrier.

And if any fans understands your situation, then its us, we have been in problems with overpaying old players and paying fees 3 times more then the players were worth and not having a board who pulled the team in the same direction - and it took us 12 years (at least we have world class people working for us in almost every position and we are finally not paying fantasy fees just because we are Manchester United and they knew that we were desperate and would eventually pay what ever they asked just because we believed "superstars" who only joined the club for money would be the solution (Di Maria, Alexis, Maguire, Mount, ANTONY etc are some players we either signed them for their "name" or because plan A, B, C failed so we went in for them last days of the transfer window and paid what ever the club asked.

You guys have to be prepared for some less fun years, hard goodbyes, not getting players you really want to join etc but hopefully the guys running the club have a 3-4 year plan for have you will solve all these problems and again be force to count with - GOOD LUCK!

While I agree with the general sentiment that Bayern faces more urging issues than a Wirtz signature and an overall difficult contract situation, this is a bit exaggerated, IMO. Bayern is hesitant to spend but they still have big reserves. Their finances will take a hit when some of the players you mentioned sit out their contracts or get the extensions they want but they'll be able to make huge investments nonetheless - the question is rather if they are willing to. Anyway, matches like yesterday will only make it more difficult for Bayern to get Wirtz since his price will only increase with such performances. And let's be real, as long as they have Musiala, Bayern don't really need Wirtz. When you have your squad sorted out, you can go for such a transfer but in this situation his signature would likely mean that more urging issues won't be solved.

Anyway, back to actual football: I think his first UCL goal summed Wirtz up very well. Not because he always scores like this but it brillantly showcased his situational awareness which IMO is what distinguishes him from other world class talents. He's always aware of his surroundings and reacts in split seconds to opponent movements and space that opens up. In this case, he received the ball and everybody expected the through ball to Boniface in typical Wirtz fashion but he recognizes immediately that the defender overcommits to cover the striker's run and the goal keeper already positions himself in expectation of the pass so he seamlessly takes the shot with his weak foot into the open corner of the goal. Wirtz' technique, dribbling, passing, even his pace are fantastic but this level of situational awareness is often overlooked and very rare. He processes these situations and anticipates space as quickly as I have only seen Messi do it.

The rumours around him are picking up speed. It started with reports of a Munich newspaper that Bayern's priority is signing Wirtz in the summer and that they expect him to be much cheaper than the quoted €150M roughly two weeks ago, referencing Uli Hoeneß' long standing connections to his family, especially his father. A week later, Michael Reschke (former director of football at both Leverkusen and Bayern and acquaintance of Wirtz' family) told Sky that his gut feeling tells him Wirtz will move to Madrid with Alonso next summer. Shortly after, Sky and Plettenberg reported that they have information that Wirtz prefers a Bayern move in the summer before moving into a foreign league. Now the Kicker has reported that as of now, Wirtz has only spoken to Leverkusen and that his preferred option is extending for another year, targeting a move in 2026.

Meanwhile, his start into the season has been nothing short of sensational despite our somewhat disappointing results as of late. Here's a compilation that only features plays since the summer break - and it doesn't even include the match from the weekend when he dribbled through four players on three occasions, one leading to a brillant pre-assist for the first goal:

Yes please. I can already feel the healing of things, natural order being restored

Pretty sure you lot are signing him to replace Musiala, not to complement him. So you might as well accept your fate as well.
I have the feeling they will be playing together. And I obviously hope it'll be at Bayern and not at Real or City.

Do you think Bayern is able to keep Musiala and to buy Wirtz ? That will be tough, you have to sort out your dead wood first
Yes, the money is there. Coman, Sané and Gnabry are on something like €17m p.a.

Or, you know, we just extend Musiala.

You posted that after me saying talking about that we (United) should go "all-in" for Wirtz OR Musiala next summer as a long term replacement for Bruno, and I also pointed at the fact that Musiala is not sure about extending yet and that he has not long left on his contract situation and that Bayern would not be stupid to take the risk to see him leave for free summer 2026 - so if Bayern and Musiala cant agree on a new contract before the end of 2025 summer transfer, there is big chance for us (and other teams) and risk for you guys, that he will be sold so they can cash
in big money - because I am sure you will be able to get 70-90m euro even though he will only have 1 year left on his current contract.

The biggest problems for Bayern is that, as I mentioned in my post - is that you have a LOT of big and important contract to extend next 20 months and players to replace and not too much money at the moment as it seems after all the info directly from your board this summer.
I also believe that you guys made a HUGE mistake letting Lewandowski leave and pay big money for Kane (€100m+€20m) and give him the biggest contract in Europe (to a non German player that was over 30 years), he is on €25m+ per year after taxes (ish €525.000 per week + heavy bonuses) until 2027. Musiala is 10 years younger, German and the future of the club - he will probably tell the board that he wants to be paid at least close, if not more, than someone who is past his prime years (but still provides like he was in them). I mean, do you dont believe that Musiala would be offended if Bayern offers him half, which is still a massive contract, around €260.000 per week while asking him to spend his best years at the club? And IF, lets say Bayern somehow decides to give another player €500.000 contract, what about all others stars that i also mentioned in the same post that have 12-20 months left on their contract? I dont know, the only way this could be solved and keep Bayerns economics in place, is if Musiala excepts a contract around €250-300k because of his "love" for the club and understands that handing out 500k contracts is impossible - just see what happened to PSG after Neymar, Mbappe and Messi - they had to let them all go in other to start over and balance the situation - you cant make them all happy, and when you make a move like yours with Kane - it often comes with HEAVY consequences pretty fast.

So my point is, i cant see how you guys will make all your players happy next 12-20 months. I will quote my post from 20th September;
The article also mention that Bayern have more important players that wants new contract, like Kimmich, Sane, Davies, Dier, Neuer, Muller all in 2025 and Musiala, Goretzka, Gnabry, Upamencano, Guerreoiro, etc etc.

That´s 11 first team players that plays on a regular basis that you have to either sell, extend contract or let go for free in the next 12-20 months.
And after Kane´s €525k/week contract - if you also give Musiala lets say €400k and he agrees - will you hand another 10 200-400k/week contract while your directors explaining this summer after the sales of De Ligt and Mazraoui that you had to sell to buy new players or extend currents players contract? I think the answer is clear - your situation is not ideal and you will not be able to make them all happy.
Sometimes loosing a player, like Musiala in this situation, and cash in summer 2024 might be the best thing here for the club and its future to keep a long term balance and not risk to collapse.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other thing we discussed was that I said that you have still NOT extended Musiala´s contract and you said, like I quoted you above that you just did - I just came to you with facts, a quote from your (Bayern´s director) were he talks about the contract situation. I asked you "Are you sure?" - and posted;

Now you answered it with;

Not sure. But quite optimistic. His extension is by far our biggest priority and we will do whatever we can to pull it off. We’ve done extensions that were even more difficult in the past. So I see no reason as to why it shouldn’t happen. Sure, some players want to leave, no matter what (Ballack). But I don’t worry about that.

Now all sudden you are not sure about IF you will get it extended, but still optimistic, but you are again talking about that you might get it done somehow and that you have managed to solve even harder situations before - but I don´t think you understood that I meant that your problem now is not ONLY Musiala and his contract, and that it´s a far much more complex situation than if he WANTS to stay or not. If you ask me, again its about Kane and his HUGE contract he was offered after he turned 30 years, while also getting a huge sign on, a fee to Tottenham and not being a German national star (same as when United are paying English tax for every English player we bring in, we always have to pay 20-30% extra for English players). All these things will be taken in concern when Musiala and his agents sits down with the board.

Now, to end this post - i dont believe he will join Man United so for me, i would be glad to see him stay in Bayern and not joining any other PL club because I think he would be a superstar here as well and I rather not have to face him against United at least twice every year in the league - BUT if he is leaving Bayern and United can find the money and convince somehow, i would LOVE to see him in the United shirt next year or 2026.

Great player but, for once, Barca did a great deal with RBL for Olmo at just €55m given likely fee required for Wirtz.
