Final: Italy vs England

So you think they're going to pack the midfield against an inferior midfield, and leave the best wide players in the tournament with plenty of space? Yes please!

This is the issue with Southgate though, will he play his best attackers or will he play Saka? Grealish has to start but I bet he doesn't

I would actually play two up front against them and batter into them. They’ll eat up a lone striker all night. 5 3 2

It wouldn't surprise me if Southgate goes 5 at the back, though likely to be for defensive reasons as oppose to attacking ones

Despite the jinx thread, its honestly locked in for England as long as they beat Denmark (who are a tougher test for them than Italy for me). Italy don't have the attack to get through that defence and England have a stupid amount of options going forward. As much as I'd dislike seeing them win it, they are the best team in Europe right now and deserve it. At least I can be happy for the United lads.

Not looking to be insightful or articulate. Just pointing out England will smash Denmark.

You have a lot of confidence compared to the fact that England have only played well in one game in the tournament so far. Of course, England are favorites, everyone knows that. But arrogance suits no one. Denmark is a better team than you think, and there will be no walk over.

Well to be fair it's not confidence or arrogance. I'm not an England fan. It's just my belief.

Grealish has to start, England would need a player capable of holding onto the ball

Those Italians CB's wont give Kane a sniff
Weren't too impressive for Spain's goal, left in the dust on the give and go! Italy won't underestimate England.

So happy Italy done it,

They’re the only team I have confidence to beat England, FORZA ITALIA !
I was dreading the headlines in the morning after that Kane hat trick to make it 3-3, but fortunately Italy managed to get that penalty in the dying seconds thanks to their eponymous cheating and scummy ways.

The irony is this England side play more like the Italy of the old with its defensive focus. The current Italy side is a high pressing and relentless attacking outfit.

having said that I think England will have to be at their best to beat the Danes in 90 mins.

I'd say the opposite. Look at how much space Morata got when he came on dropping into the hole. The CBs never went with him. That's a big facet of Kane's game. If they give him the same sort of time then he'll do serious damage.
Morata is blindingly fast, giving him space to get in behind is dangerous. Kane is slower than both of our CBs

Kane is not slower than your CBs. He's not rapid, but England have bags of pace out wide.

Kane is slower than our CBs. He's slower than Morata and not as mobile and technical in tight spaces as Olmo

Different player that offers different problems. Frankly, it's Sterling and whoever plays between Mount or Saka in the middle i'd be really scared of, we don't really have good matchups against them

Kane is not slower than your centre backs. His hold up and link play is also significantly better than what Spain had in that position. That's going to be your biggest issue. You either push out to stop Kane playing and leave space in behind your slow defense for our wide men to exploit, or you sit back and give him space.

Will be a slaughter. Can't we move it literally anywhere else? Wembley doesn't agree with us
It's really unfair. True, when the venues were being sorted I don't expect anyone really thought that England would reach the latter stages, but it would have been fairer to find a country that didn't qualify at all and hold it there. Norway would have been a possibility.

If England get to the final, they'll have a massive advantage and loads of supporters.

As an Englishman,

The abuse of that little German girl and the completely unearned overconfidence for this semi final tie makes it kind of hard to back my team.

When will we realise that us winning the Euros would actually be more of a surprise than Denmark winning it (considering they have actually won it before!).

Can we stop being so unlikeable as a nation... thanks.

Jeez, man, I'm not even English but this sort of self-loathing annoys me. The ratio of people complaining about overly confident/arrogant England fans and actual overconfident England fans is something like a 100 to 1 at this point.

And obviously Denmark winning it would be a much bigger surprise.

Yeah I have no idea where the arrogance is coming from myself. Both Denmark and (then if we get through) Italy are big tests and we've got a history of doing poorly when we put extra pressure on the players to win. The best thing about the last World Cup and beginning of this tournament was that we'd seemingly moved away from the usual arrogant behaviour - it seems to have helped the team a lot so I'm hoping the change doesn't go to their heads.

As much as anything, I'd expect United fans to be extra vigilant considering what happened to us in the Europa League final.

Of course I still expect us to win :D

The abuse of the girl came from twitter, which is a cesspit.

The 'overconfidence' is just confidence, why is confidence suddenly 'overconfidence'?

I do think England will win, but I don't think that it'll be easy. Denmark are a good team and there is no way that Southgate or the players will take them lightly

Both of your bolded comments are utterly ridiculous

Nonsense.

Firstly, loathing of fools who share my nationality is hardly loathing of oneself.

Secondly, if you look at England's record in major tournaments then clearly there aren't many teams that would be less likely to win it.

When many fans are already talking about the final disregarding the semi that is about to be played, that is definitely overconfidence.

Thinking you will win is just confidence, I agree.

England's history in major tournament's is abysmal people need to stop avoiding that fact. It would be like expecting Arsenal to win the Champions League.

I will be ecstatic if we beat Denmark and make the final. I will then really hope we win the final on top of that.

I will accept that struggling to support the team due to a large minority of clowns was overdramatic.

England 7 Denmark 0: Kane 1st half hat-trick, Grealish 2nd half hat-trick, and to cap it all off.... A last minute 30 yard unstoppable overhead kick into the top corner from Shaw.

Come 9:45pm, the Danish rashers are on the floor crying, and the whole of England comes together in unison to sing Three Lions on a Shirt, which can be heard as far away as Burma.

The people celebrate in the streets, basking in the glory ,and victory, of the most complete, and best, international side the world has ever ever seen. Football IS definitely coming home. ..................Is it feck arrogant twats! I really hope the Danish beat yas.

Denmark is certainly one of them though. I'm fairly sure even the Danes would agree. The past isn't particularly relevant: England have a clearly better group of players than Denmark therefore they are favourites. Doesn't mean they will definitely win, of course, but the footballing world would consider it a surprise and a great triumph for Denmark if they were to knock England out.

It's a fair point.

However, is there really enough of a difference between the likelihood of Denmark winning it and the likelihood of England winning it to justify talking about the final as if it's a foregone conclusion almost a week before the Semi?

That's what I struggle with.

I really hope the lads win tonight and would love another comfortable one like Ukraine (though that seems unlikely).

Right now, regardless of opposition, there will always be a part of me that is surprised if we reach a major final... it hasn't happened in my lifetime.

So happy we finally won something. It came home!

They’ve won it and know what it takes, compared to England who are perpetual losers and often an embarrassment.

How do they know what it takes when the current Denmark squad have nothing to do with 1992?

May as well say England know what it takes because they won the world cup in 1966.

What are you talking about man.

I think we started the Denmark game poorly because of the pressure of the Wembley crowd. It's probably related that our best performance of the tournament so far has been the only one we've played away.

I hoping the players have got used to the weight of expectation now. Fingers crossed, the England will be a bit calmer on Sunday.

Fantastic thread @ivaldo. You're a hero of English football.

We're gonna need to be a lot better in midfield in the final.
