Final: Italy vs England

Still crying? man you're going to dehydrate!

I remind you this is an Euro thread, piece of tears.

Again... let me engage you in a conversation relevant to this thread...
Italy deserved to win. Horrendous game by England. 8 defensive players every single minute of the tournament against teams with one fifth of their quality.
Football won tonight.

:boring::boring:

Some United fans under Van Gaal: possession means nothing, we’re shit

Same fans tonight: Italy had more possession so they are better

For what it’s worth whilst we didn’t have another shot on target I thought from about 75 minutes on and through ET we looked better.

England far too passive after going 1 up.

Italy then dominated the 90. Extra time was more even but should have gone way more attacking given we'd obviously bottle penalties.

All up big disappointment but not surprised in any way...

Mentioned it in another thread but i don't see how Mount's performances or even Saka's one good game warranted his selected over Sancho after his game against Ukraine. We were far to negative tonight, Phillips and Sterling looked dead on their feet at times. Even Kane was missing. We probably have the richest attacking selection in Europe right now and Southgate has been afraid to use them all tournament, and ultimatly, it's cost us tonight.

No, we didn't. Our players stopped going forward. It was an instruction from the manager, which is made more clear as we have done exactly the same against lesser teams.

Italy are a good side, but the second half should never have been that comfortable for them. We had the players to beat them, but we didn't even try it.

and that will be the argument for the next few years.

slightly different argument but i watched the greatest ever United side take the game to Barcelona in a champions league game and get demolished. Some games aren’t there to be won. Better teams just beat teams that aren’t as good as them.

It really is an opportunity missed. If Southgate made his usual subs around 60-65 bringing on Grealish for one I reckon you'd have won.

5 penalty takers and you get a centre half, two players who played a combined 6 minutes of the game and a sub who did nothing right all game on the list.

fecking braindead.
Don't forget to mention that teens were tasked to take the pens.

I hate that I have that same feeling as it's hard to shake that one off.

Put on the fecking medals you cnuts. That shit infuriates me.

Commentator - Not a bit of arrogance about them.
2 seconds later they all start pulling off their medals. Disgusting.
Why would you want a second place medal. I’d give mine to the fans or throw it in the bin.

No this is a flawed logic. The problem with LVG's possession is we were basically passing the ball the entire game in our own half. Our forward passing percentage was fecking atrocious.

Italy were pressing England the entire second half and cornering them in their own half. They just couldn't manage to find the cutting edge.

Possession is great as long as you're doing something with it. Italy were. LVG's United weren't.

First off - it's been a wonderful tournament to watch, and the Young Lions have been a credit to the nation. Separated by a fanny hair from the best team in Europe, that's something to be very proud about.

However.

That game was there for the taking. Italy were at 6s and 7s in that first half, a decent turn of the screw and we would have been away clean.

Mancini changed the game in the second half, and Gareth reacted far too slowly. Once it was clear we were getting overrun in the midfield he should have shored things up, rather than hoping and praying. If it wasn't Bonucci it would have been someone else.

Penalties - well what can you say? If only we took them as well as we save them, Pickford deserved to be on the winning side.

Congratulations Italy (and all the pissed Scots outside my window who have suddenly discovered Italian heritage), and congratulations England.

Always look on the bright side of life .... We have Bruno to take the penalties.

Booing national anthems
The scrapping in and around Wembley and beyond tonight, some even breaking in
Cheating in the semi to get to the final
The laser in Schmeichel's eye
The fact that they basically played the tourament at home but largely didn't acknowledge this gigantic advantage they had
Their dire football
The arrogance of their fans

Thank god Italy put this lot in their place

Because you earned it, because great players like Scholes, Lampard, Beckham etc.. who came before you have never got one. Because it shows respect to the competition you are in, respect to the other teams and other players who worked their bollix off and couldn't achieve that, respect to your country and FA. Not acting like a spoiled child kicking and screaming cause he didn't win the 3 legged race at school. Do you think Denmark would have acted like that if they came runners up. Nah.. they'd be fecking proud as punch of those medals.

I haven't seen the racial abuse myself, but it really makes me sad to read here of the racial abuse on Rashford and Saka. Has racial abuse been heaped on Sancho as well?

To be fair, England do only have themselves to blame for tonight, but Italy were even worse in the semis so dunno about football won, that's just unnecessarily antagonistic.

Having said that, England simply won't win anything while Southgate is in charge, he only trusts a handful of players and runs them into the ground. This is a carbon copy of the WC in 2018, except Italy lost their danger man to injury.

Lose to Villarreal on pens in the final
Lose to Italy on pens in the final

What a shit few weeks

No one wants the losers medal. Most losers medals get given away by players.

I'm so sick of seeing this sort of cretinous shite.

Usually the people doing this are such morons and halfwits, they probably are too confused by a lad called Jadon Malik Sancho who plays in Germany, has Trinidadian parents and a London accent.

I am really sad that Saka was sent out there as the last penalty. 19 year old who has never taken a pen for even arsenal given the last pen in a euro final? They really messed the kid up and he is gonna be given soo much backlash for it.

I guess yeah but I’d still trust players who had been in the game over Rashford and Sancho coming in cold and Saka who looked a bag of nerves. But I guess you gotta go with your gut and choose the better penalty takers.

I think I read Saka hasn’t taken atop level penalty before though.
Thought he should've brought them on earlier to get a bit of a feel for the ball as it was obvious that they were coming on to take them, maybe they still miss but you're not asking them to do it with barely a kick.
Southgate picked from what he's seen in training but it's very tough on Saka and a lot to ask for him to go last.

Thats fine but you don't do it right after the match. I might be wrong but I'd love to see video's of teams doing it at the medal ceremony before United in the Uefa cup and England tonight.

Completely agree, yeah. Sancho’s first touch was the penalty ffs

Yawn :boring:

England won the first half. The Italians were brilliant in the second half winning 50/50's all over the pitch. England looked utterly bereft of ideas in the second half. I think if Gareth had changed formation and brought on Grealish and Sancho, maybe even Rashrord for Kane, then England would have won. Southgate was not pro-active enough and the Rashford/Sancho subs were just silly in my opinion.

Italy were easily the best team in the whole tournament and deserved to win it. England did well to get to a final, athough they had an easy path with the exception of a very poor German side.

Oh well, it wasn't to be. Of course we have some idiots smashing things up outside of our house and after seeing some of the scenes at Wembley there is a little nice Karma at play for those idiots at least! Hope they are crying in their pillows tonight!
