Gaming Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (PS5)

Anyone else experiencing a horrible decline in performance when using graphics mode since the patch yesterday? I had it in graphics mode the entire time, then came the patch and the entire thing is choppy as feck. Had to put it in one of the performance modes as a result. This was on chapter 7 I believe.

Yeah its been choppy as feck for me too especially in fights with a lot of things happening. On chapter 12

I'm really struggling with dyne on phase 3. It's a cnut of a fight.
You really just have to focus on dodging his ridiculous attacks and wait until his arm becomes targetable so you can quickly Fira it and pressure him. There's a couple moves where he shoots lasers at you, if you run towards him as he's doing it he'll immediately cancel it and do a AOE move around him that you can easily dodge. Gives you precious time to heal or get a few hits in.

I finally did it. It took me a while to figure out how to dodge hidden barb. You basically have to dodge just before it emerges. Once I got that it was fine.

Got to the Gold Saucer, this game is bat shit mental, is the rest of it this infantile because I can't be arsed with this nonsense. I don't remember the party turning into a K Pop group in the original game. I prefer when it focuses on the main storyline but it just seems like a glorified Mario Party so far with these infuriating minigames. Maybe the game isn't for me.

Managed to complete Cloud, Tifa and Aerith’s legendary fights. Aerith’s wasn’t too bad other than the last fight which was a cnut.

After 175 hours, I finally have the platinum! Last two legendary fights really got my heart pumping but once you nail the method down it's not too bad.

Contemplating whether to complete it 100% by getting all the green ticks in the play log or finally moving on

I’m on chapter 12 now, just trying to finish out a few side quests before finding out who my date is. I dropped it down to easy mode for some of the more annoying mini games like the chocobo racing just to be done with them.

Don’t think I’ll do hard mode after, but maybe eventually.

Great game let down by poor pacing and a bit too much bloat

How the feck do you beat the queen at queens blood? I’ve trounced almost everyone else so far but she’s annihilating me every time.

Think its pure luck and it just kind of happens sooner or later. I just kept her limited to about 3 squares and still beat her by a tiny margin.

I had to resort to a guide unfortunately.
Same here. Can't beat her with a 'normal' deck. She cheats and it feels like you need a deck specifically designed to counteract that. Even with a guide, it still took me a few tries to beat her.

Odin did me in the Cloud/Sephiroth bout. To be fair though was hanging on v Bahamut by a thread. Not sure if I enjoy these challenges or whether it’s making me want to throw my PS5 through a wall. Probably a bit of both.

Finally finished the game. Man that last sephiroth fight was annoyin. I had no materia on Aerith and didnt wanna go back to redo all the other fights. Took me a good ten fifteen tries. The story is confusing as hell too. Oh well 5 more years till part 3

3D brawler is the worst mini game I’ve ever played. Having to fecking pause it just to figure out their animations is ridiculous. Whoever came up with it should be shot.

I didn’t do the pause trick cos it felt like cheating. The last few are stupidly hard to work out and took me a while but I eventually got there.

Worst mini game for me was the moogles. Thought they could have done that a lot better

can’t wait for snowboarding in 3!.

Agreed. It's so stupid. I had to start pausing from Dio onwards. I would love to see the devs release a video showing them beat the last fight without pausing.

Jesus I dunno how you did it. Had to do the pause trick.

yeah the moodles suck, quite a lot of the mini games do. Queens Blood is amazing though so at least there’s that.

That whole UBA quest sucks. I dropped the game to easy mode for all the mini games just to get it over with. Was determined to do the arena but on normal and finally got it after like 10 attempts. Feck those 2 jokers and the toad.

It's not impossible. The individual attacks can be memorized sort of quickly and the AI cycles through a set of combo's.

Still, it's reall fecking hard.

My advice to anyone picking the game up would be to not waste too much time on mini games. None really warrant more than 5 minutes of your time and a lot of them are a total fecking chore for the few minutes they last.
Just play through the story and do the side quests. Skim over everything, a couple of things are quite fun for a short time. Then move on to something else. I think its a good 8/10 type experience like that. I think the more time you spend on Ultimate Fighter or cheesy as feck Arena Quests the lower the score drops.

I’d rate it higher than 8. The main story and open world and what they’ve done as a homage to the original elevate it beyond that. Agree that a lot of the mini games are unnecessary and it needed a better director to tell them to rein some of that shite in but overall it’s easily a 9 for me. Amazing game. Haven’t finished it yet, though.

I saw on Reddit someone say it was the best Ubisoft type open world ever and I’d kinda agree, which is funny given it’s not even a fecking Ubisoft game. But they really nailed all that aspect of it.

How is the game anyway? I haven't had the chance to buy it yet. Is it as good as ye hoped?

9/10 for me. The map checklist thing gets slightly old (though I didnt really mind). If you hate minigames it's more like a 7/10 though.

I mean i'd rate the original as a 10/10 or pretty close. This just isn't as good a game for me. I'm not sure a good 8/10 is that different from an easy 9/10 and i'm not sure how many of the side quests and other weaker stuff you've played. I guess my main point is its not a game to 100%

I rate it higher than the original tbh but the original has never been my favourite FF anyway. When they finish all remakes Id be surprised if a lot of people didn't rate it higher because of the depth that can go to with it.

I personally adore almost all the minigames, so that too is a matter of taste I'd say.

Just finished the game. Have to say I think it's a masterpiece overall. Great success for square imo, especially after 16. Can't believe that sold better.

10/10 for me. Only a few very minor complaints (and nothing to do with the ending which I thought they did very well).

The original is one of my favourite games, dreamt about something like this for years.

As a remake of the original, a homage to it, and a sequel to the first one, it’s not far off perfect imo. Sloppy pacing and some crappy mini games are the only thing that let it down.

Just finished the campaign today. Been playing it pretty relentlessly over past few weekends to try to finish it. I’ve clocked 76 hours, finished the campaign and the vast majority of side quests including the prototeic quest line. Got no real ambition of finishing the combat challenges or mini games.

Overall, I really loved this game. It has a few issues to it but its strengths far out weigh the negatives. Its combat is excellent and much better than 16s, the graphics are top notch, the story is by far and large superb and ‘no promises to keep’ will live long in my memory.

My only gripes were:
A) the amount of mini games was ridiculous. I quite liked the chocobo racing, queens blood was great and playing the piano was actually a really fun addition to the game. However, there were loads which were just a pain. I hated Gambits and Gears, the frog game was annoying, Fort Condor was irritating and the workout game has given me PTSD after getting the top rank.

2) just a few fights which had too steep of a curve. I’m mainly looking at the big fight in chapter 12. On top of that the boss sequence in the final chapter was too long. I know they like to do a boss gambit at the ends of games but it was too much for someone like me especially when you leave the hardest one to last.

Overall, it was a pretty emotionally draining experience and the ending was very bittersweet. I would give the game a 9/10 or 9.5/10. Story is starting to get a little confusing, I kind of get it but hope that part 3 tidies it up a bit.

Is the story told well enough? I never really cared for the side mission stuff to be honest.
