Match start delayed until 0000 GMT 2nd January

Australia: R Ponting, J Langer, M Hayden, M Hussey, M Clarke, A Symonds, A Gilchrist, S Warne, B Lee, S Clark, G McGrath.

England: A Flintoff, A Strauss, A Cook, I Bell, P Colli ngwood, K Pietersen, C Read, J Anderson, S Mahmood, S Harmison, M Panesar.

Umpires: B Bowden (NZ), A Dar (Pkn)

Not sure I'm meant to start these match threads, but I've surely earnt the right having sat through most of this crap so far live at all hours...

For people who want to see even less Aussie wickets taken in a test, ay. They might as well just open up with Hussey and Ponting, rack up 700-0 and knock us over 100 all out both innings. As you can tell, feeling positive...

We've brought the rain to Sydney then. They say we'll have a prolonged dry spell in the afternoon, although the rain will threaten once again towards the end of the day.

EDIT: Covers are being taken off now mind you.

I know, I was being sarcastic.

Hoggard is the only one who has bowled consistently well, from the seamers.

With our attack being so suspect, our long tail, it's up to the top of the order to prevent the whitewash here. Be nice if both Strauss and Cook could hold out for at least a half decent amount of time, is two sessions so much to ask...

COME ON ENGLAND!!

Are those three lions or three kittens!

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Because he fears the ball will spin on the last couple of days.

Two points

1. I've forgotten what the last two days of a test match look like

2. Shane Warne always fecking spins it. Miles.

It ain't a pretty sight, oh that fifth day at Adelaide. :(

Cook is still in, but after that Lee delivery his bollocks are plum out...

I'm listening on the radio but you don't need pictures to convey what's going on in that kind of situation.

When presumably they showed the replay in the ground, you could hear the crowd's reaction well enough.

You might :), but then you :(.

Whoa, that was close for Strauss there, ever so nearly the kind of shot that has seen him get out this series. We can do without that.

So what do you reckon, was Strauss out LBW then? Anybody here watching this on Sky, how did Hawkeye or whatever have it?

Hawkeye says bouncing a balls width over the stumps, good call. For about a 2 minute period there it seemed every ball was close to taking a wicket, edge carrying too short / through the gap, or an LBW shout. They survived though, finally perhaps they might be showing some guts

Strauss is out, a poor shot too and he knows it.

And so comes to an end England's highest opening stand of the series, 45.

I love the lunch break. We don't lose any wickets for a whole 40 minutes. Unless I keep watching Sky's coverage where they replay all the wickets we've lost in the morning session...

If we make 100/1 I'm in massive danger of becoming positive about our chances again. Then we'll lose 3 quick wickets and I'll be left sleepless and devastated yet again

86/2

Been away for a bit, so i'm only just hearing that Cook got out for 20 huh? Disappointing that.

I think sky's coverage stopped working after lunch. Every ball since then seems to have beaten the bat, must be on a continuous loop or something...

I have a growing loathing for Stuart Clark. He always takes at least 1 wicket in a spell and he goes for sod all runs.

119/2

Bell's worked hard for more than 3 hours now and is appoaching his half century.

Pieterson's been out there for two and a half hours maybe, he's on 24.

Credit to both of them, this is what we need.

166/3

Bell is still there on 70.

Pieterson's now gone though, caught by Hussey after a rarity of sorts, a bouncer from McGrath.

Probably another two hours left of the day, maybe a little more, Bell and ******gwood need to see out the day

Oh dear...:(

167/4

Bell who looked settled and like he was going nowhere, just has.

Freddie's in, well if he's going to remind the Aussies of what he can do with the bat this series, now'd be a good time. Otherwise things could turn very sour on us....again, and very quickly, it's all too farmiliar.

England need a decent morning session to avoid undoing a reasonable first day.

It rained tonight here in Sydney.

I have a feeling there will be rain delays throughout this test.

Weather forecast says it will rain on Wednesday, but showers will clear on Thursday.

If true, I predict a draw.

My prediction for tomorrow.
Play delayed until after lunch.
England to then be bowled out for 240.
Aussie to get 672 runs by tea.

Rain predictions a nonsense, looks like it's an early start. Thankfully Villa and Chelsea served up some drivle earlier on and I got a couple of hours kip in so I'm good for the night! Big partnership this for England, I want 400.

Yes, all England's hopes for this test match rest on their shoulders, we cannot afford these first few hours to go badly for us.

EDIT: 2 minutes to go by my clock, oh let it be. :)

Bastard Sky I've lost my feed, radio til it comes back. I was feeling strangely positive for this test suddenly too after batting out the afternoon session no worse than 4 down, this better not be a sign...
