I'm fecking shite at defending, it's much harder to bail out your mistakes and opposition strikers don't capitulate in front of goal 100% of the time.

I've gotten used to it on Semi-Pro, winning comfortably and i've notched it up to Professional. Very difficult i've found, still get beaten by top teams, can usually get a result against mid-table sides.

How do you lads defend when the opposition are running at you? I can never fight off the urge to send Rio or Vidic flying out to tackle an onrushing player. Should I just keep the defensive line and hope they run out of gas?

To be hnest I avoid using the slide tckle unless as a lst resort.

It's all about trying to close them down and use the X button to perform the tackle - but even then it helps to be lind up correctly if you want to avoid giving away free kicks.

Looking forward to getting a few games of FIFA in in the league, although it won't be until next weekend. Am back in the UK this week, so no PS3 for me.
 
Anyone got any decent vids of Fifa on PS3 as there are some good ones of PES in that thread.

Played the new PES last night it must be the first PES i dont like so looking into getting my first FIFA game in 10 years....

Sure, if you remove the fact Pro Evo doesn't even closely resemble football. There's no such thing as a long ball game apparently and Michael Carrick can dribble faster than the real Kaka, who can actually dribble faster than a concorde in the game :confused:

You can get from one side of the pitch to the other on the hardest difficulty with just the sprint and directional buttons. The ball moves at the speed of light through the air and the goalkeepers don't seem to know how to catch the ball.

Looks and feels like a PS2 game. A pretty good (although entirely unrealistic one) but a PS2 game none the less.

Have you actually played the game for more than 5 minutes ?

The gameplay is brilliant, yes it doesn't travel at 100 mph, you can't just give it to Ronaldo and run round the whole team before smashing it into the net, you can't score 40 yard screamers for fun, but that's because it plays like a real football match.

And all these people who say you don't have control of the players, that because you are obviously shit at the game. I've been playing it for day's, and yes it takes some getting used to, but once you have, you feel in 100% control of the players.
 
My finesse shots from outside the box always go right into the keepers gloves whereas if I don't use finesse, the keeper will punch it.
 
I tried playing online but it says mine is not updated or something.

Then I checked for updates and download some 1.5 mb file which wont work.

How do I update or how else can I play online?

It is incredibly satisfying getting finesse right outside the area. The bar must be as close to full without actually being full as you can get it.
Of course on Pro Evo, you'd just need to tap shoot and it'd go straight into the bottom corner. Bellends.
 
I did something quite unique/weird on FIFA yesterday online. I was in the position to pass to the right but I chose left so what my player does is some thing where he turns without me asking him to and then doing a nice back heel which you wouldn't expect. It's like a trick I suppose but all I did was decide to pass the other way. Actually a bit like the cruyff turn now I think of it, turning but then instead of changing body shape, back heeling it sort of. I didn't press the trick stick

I managed to do a nice backheel the other day with Ronaldo flicking it onto Scholes . Shame he missed the shot though
 
If you change your arena player from ronaldinho, it won't let you online. Don't know why, must be a glitch or something.

Either that or Ronaldinho has got a clause in his fifa contract;)

Mines Ronaldo and I play online.

I do however have to keep getting squad updates before every game which is really fecking me off.

I also had a game the other day where I was winning against some French guy he then every time I had possession some how made it lag like a twat, as soon as he got the ball it was fine again. I was desperate to beat him and my xbox crashed due to the lag.

Just gone back on Fifa, downloaded an update and the 'Be a pro' is now online. Just had a game, it wasn't too bad. Very disorganized but with a decent players it could be a good laugh.

Can the host boot cnuts like that? I seemed to be the only person passing on my team which was annoying.
 
I played a few games of Be A Pro online last night and loved it. I like playing in the centre of midfield and getting involved both atacking and defending. Scored a hattrick including the winning goal in extra time with Carrick in a game that we won 9-8 (the reason for the high score is that the game lasted about 20 minutes, so much longer than I usually play).

Some games were better than others, but you really feel part of a team. I know that sounds amazingly sad, but you do feel guilty if you misplace a pass or give the ball away. You also feel annoyed when you are in acres of space and one of your teammates tries to dribble the ball through their entire defence...

Didn't find anyone who tried to intentionally wreck games, although one group I played against had headsets and one guy paused the game a couple of times for receive a phone call and a text message. Twat.

Overall I was really impressed with it as it made you think about the game a lot more and really play football realistically.

Do we have 10 PS3 FIFA players on here? Or if we had 5, could we setup a game against another 5? Would be a good laugh!

I've found people don't pass very much which is annoying. Me and a mate had a game he was Rooney I was Ronaldo, we played some good football, some one in defence managed to feck up and cost us a goal though.

I do wish there was a better way to arrange games. All the quick start games I have joined in this mode have been really good, but like you said, there are always going to be some twats in some games. It is a shame that you cannot choose to replay the game, or play another game with the same players easily. Instead you have to just quit back to the arena, which seems a pity.

Having said that I'm sure that is something they will work on and improve.

The other slight critcism I have is that substitutions are up to the captain in each game. It would be nice to be able to change the player you are controlling - not the postion, but be able to bring on someone different.
 
Downloaded a Superpatch 0.5 for PES 2008 PC version.

It contains real names and transfers updated. Badges and shirts of Premiership teams are correct now. The patch still needs some improvements (real stadiums) but the current version is really okay.

I don't know how on consoles but on PC, Fifa 2008 is very similiar to 2007 and that really sucks... PES 2008 beats PC's version of Fifa 2008 in almoust everything, IMO.

No idea what the PC version is like, but if it's done by the same set of engineers that did the 360 and PS3 versions, then it shits all over Pro Evo.
Pro Evo doesn't even come close.

I don't know, man... I play almoust every football game in the world.

I've started gaming by playing Kick Off on Atari 65XE and then played Sensible Soccer and Manchester United European Challenge on Amiga... that was a hell of a games, I tell you.

Nobody was arguing about what game is better, everyone was happy to relax with such a classic games.

Fifa and Pes are only 2 football games today that trying to be a perfect simulation and it's really hard to choose which one is better.

My favourite Fifas were 94, 98 an 03, I'm not telling that 2008 is shite or anything like that... it has improoved gameplay and animation, the freekicks are better and manager mode is the biggest advantage, IMO.
 
when wanting to play a game against your mate what option do you select, ranked or unranked and is it a create custom match or something?

Also how do you play on the same team?
