Fergie: I need to sell in order to buy

Give forlan a chance to prove his scoring touch for the rest of this year at least. Yes I too have my doubts about him but I'm not writing him off.

For gods sake, give Forlan a chance!

How many minutes did he really play last season? He has started better than the rest of the team in the pre-season matches. He will have a great one...

If we sell Forlan now, we need to buy back two more strikers. So it's really unwise to do that now. Besides, it's still too early to judge a young players came from another continent in such a short time. Forlan should be kept and should be given one more year to show that whether he can make it here or not. If he really can't make it we can sell him then and get another striker next summer.

well, yea,.. i'm just saying Fergie has wasted quite a lot of money over the years.

Porbosky, Jordi, Blomqvist, Jaap, Yorkie, Fortune, Bosnich, Taibi(LOL).. seem to be those 1-season affair and eventaully ending their career at OT after a few years. they come to OT, tried hard but not given the chance... or some like Bosnich was simply a money-sucker, white Taibi was simply a flop. hmm

and my gut feeling tells me that Forlan is not suitable for Europe. He's supposed to play tennis, remember? hehe

Unbelievable

Its all part of the Communications game. (give Paddy H credit) Kenyon has to release 'spin' on our finances to prevent clubs adding too much of a premium to the transfer fee, just because its Man Utd.

As the supporter of the richest and most famous club in the world, it's sad to see that Man Utd can't provide funds to buy new players. And no fans would like to see any big names walk away from Old Trafford, especially for those homegrown talent. Man Utd is now in shortage on at least 1 striker and 2 defenders. However, this may give opportunities to those youth players to prove their worthiness, O'Shea, Djordjic, Chadwick, Steward......

We have Two right backs in the Nevilles, a left back in Silvestre and four center halves in Blanc, O'Shea, Rio and Brown. So we need another left back, who will be the other defender?

One of the youngsters? Pugh?

I meant, he was talking about us needing TWO defenders, now we have seven already and we need a left back, so in what position is the second defender we 'need'?

One of the fullbacks

If we buy a right back, Phil is cover on the left.

If we buy a left back, Phil covers the right hand side.

Those players won't generate much money. Especially Chadwick, who will pay more than 3 million for him? Even if we sell BOTH chadwick and fortune we can only gain 7-8m at most, and then we will be short of cover at the wings.</strong><hr></blockquote>

4-5m for a left back...and another 5-6m for a striker?

couldn't brown who played out at rb v parma be considered cover ther and at cb? a lb is more urgent imo especially w/ MS not signed up yet.

"The richest and most famous club" has not all quality players in the back four, silvestre and pugh should play for fecking southampton!

It would really concern me if SAF don`t buy to defenders - both world class. The youngsters and the talents has failed to prove that united can win PL and CL with the current defenders. Ok, we have Rio, but the problem last year was named wes brown, nevilles and silvestre.

Silvestre, Neville and Brown were all regulars in the back four from two seasons ago, the best back four in the Prem that season..

How much have you seen of Pugh?

Well, prepare yourself for a major concern, as I can't see us signing any defender except back up. Problem was team defending rather than any individual.
