Fellaini

No more than £20M in my opinion, I think they need the cash more than we need Fellaini.

Even if that's the case. Why ruin the relationship with a club who had been developing a substantial number of promising players throughout the year for 3 feckin million (Bebe's right leg)? We should have activated Felliani's release clause and got the player that we wanted. Felliani would have had time to settle down with us and we would have been in a stronger position to lure a creative midfielder in.

Haven't we learnt anything from the West Ham who year in year out play against us as if its their own CL final?

It's been rumoured that Wenger also wants him. A race for a player between United and Arsenal in this transfer window would be kind of hilarious given all the circumstances, wouldn't it?

Why is that? In terms of finance, we are worse off.

We haven't been throwing money at Barca. 26m and 30m bids don't constitute throwing money at them when trying to sign a Fábregas. Now THOSE bids were derisory indeed and they show nothing about how much money we've got because we never had a chance of doing a deal at that price.

Isn't that the worry though? That we make these low bids, knowing that they won't take them. I don't think they had a cat in hell's chance of getting Fabregas, but it got the fans excited that we went for him. Then go in for the real targets of Fellaini/Baines. Just worry that they think we are stupid and we're not. A bit like how they are treating Everton.

I wouldn't be surprised if this "bid" is just part of Everton managing the exit of the two players considering it's been leaked/released from their side. United make derisory offers which Everton angrily reject forcing United to come back with more acceptable terms letting Everton appear to have forced a hard bargain.

BREAKING NEWS - From the BBC

"Everton have rejected out of hand a £28m joint bid from Manchester United for Belgium midfield man Marouane Fellaini and England defender Leighton Baines.
"The offer for Fellaini was £16m - despite a previous £23.5m contract release clause running out at the end of July - with the rest of the cash designed to tempt Everton into also parting with Baines.
"New United manager David Moyes has put his two former players among his top summer transfer targets after leaving Everton to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. United's bid was greeted with surprise at Everton and it now remains to be seen if Moyes and United return with an increased offer."

I think £28M for the pair of them is a bit of a joke offer from United, considering they're Everton's two best players.

Yup, good point.

Martinez's interview that Fellaini will be sold if there's a good offer was a clear indication that they'll sell Fellaini this season.

Ed's transfer strategy is a bit flawed, he bid £25m for Fabregas knowing that would get rejected and now the combined bid for Fellaini and Baines.

Anyhow, i sincerely hope that if we do get Fellaini that we also go for AM in the mould of Fabregas or Modric.

Pre season training puts players in sync with the team. I remember an old Andy Cole's interview which stated how difficult it is for players to settle down without proper pre season training.

Regarding my second point. Its pretty evident that we're currently desperate for a midfielder. Fans says it and even the manager had admitted such weakness. By getting someone as versatile as Felliani (he can play DM and AM), we will look let desperate and would give us some bargaining points with any potential sellers.

We could make Everton really angry by offering Anderson part of the deal or make a revised offer of £28m plus £1.

Something is seriously wrong with our transfer strategy. Did Gill not leave his 'How to do a transfer deal' manual behind for Ed? Because this is getting a bit ridiculous. Why can't we bid a fair price? There's no way Everton would ever part with their best 2 players for a measly 28m in todays market feck sakes!

Seems a low bid, hopefully though they realise that 20m plus for fellaini is a lot. Puts in to question their fabregas bud even further now, he's worth close to double what fellaini is.

I can't see Everton accepting anything less than £23m for Fellaini and £15m for Baines respectively, with a total fee of around £38.

Which would be massively overpriced but I agree. 15m for a 28/29 year old full back with not European experience seems way ott to me especially when we have a good one already and a potentially top one in fabio. Personally don't see why they would settle for the release clause for fellaini now, an certain they'd push for more.

£35m for both is what we should be offering but Everton will want nearer £40m. I think this pathetic bid is Ed's attempt at making an eventual £35m bid look better.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable "We're trying to save money so we can buy Ronaldo" post

Tbh I wish they were looking elsewhere, don't see why we need baines as evra hasn't said about leaving and with fellaini I can't see how we're not gonna overpay for him.

Baines has been the best full back in the league for a couple of years. I like Evra but I think Baines could be different class because he offers so muchy going forward.

As for Fellaini, its bizzare they havent gone in for him before the clause expired, but I suspect if he wants the move he'll get it.

It's clear from the opening match and pre-season that Moyes wants the fullbacks, particularly from the left to overlap and get a lot of crosses in early. More so than we have previously. The question is whether Evra can do that over 60 plus matches at his age. I doubt it. So Baines makes sense and getting him on board now makes for a seem less transition next summer, when I think Evra may leave.

Evra offers more in the sense that he is our vice captain so can be vital in the dressing room. I don't mind us bidding for Fellaini as we do need midfield reinforcements but I don't understand why we are after Baines when Evra can do a capable job unless Evra is leaving.

I am honestly astounded by the way we appear to be trying to do business. It's as if we are bidding so we can say that we've bid. None of our publicised bids have bad any hope of securing the player. I'm guessing that if we are in for Ronaldo, Ed has probably lodged a £25 million bid.

Baines and Fellaini would not be bad signings at all, at this stage. I'd expect Moyes to get slated for signing two players from his former team, but the reality is that they are still two players that could improve us.

That's what managers usually do, not sure why people are surprised to be honest. They like a couple of players they know. Well, that's according to Neil Warnock on Talksport.

Evra offers just as much going forward. Baines dribbling ability, passing and general link-up play are nowhere near as good as Evras.

Yeah I agree, but he will inevitably be slated by a portion of our fans. It's sad, but true.

Baines might be a slight improvement (not even sure about it) but to call him different class is a plain insult to Evra who has been a great servant for this club and one of the best left backs in the world for nearly a decade.

I know we usually go off stats to compare players but I really do think Evra offers more. He is completely experienced in Europe and knows what is expected of the club. Lets not forget he is/was vice captain so will be massively influential in the changing room. And to top it off he is a really good player.

What if Evra wants to leave?
