Not a fan of the whole "if all else fails hoof to Fellaini" option. We're better than that. The fact that Jose is even entertaining the idea of using the above tactic is a little worrying.
Fellaini is a constant reminder of Moyes and his horrific management of our club. If so, they should be booing Ferguson aswell. He was the one that hired him. You can't ignore that fact.
It's not hard to see why Fellaini is representative of our slump over the last 4 seasons. He's the one player that has been here for the whole of that period, and none of SAF's, and we even managed to make an embarrassing balls-up of signing him. While he is genuinely shit other than a few niche abilities, it's beyond that. No hard feelings to the lad, but he's a feckin curse on the club, and I will drive him to Turkey myself.

The fact that even when we're shit we continue to pull in trophies ten times as fast as Liverpool is just a side note here. We have undeniably had a very poor time since SAF left - getting through three managers while constantly struggling, and generally failing, to even make the top 4.
Important is a stretch to begin with never mind one of the most important players, we signed a midfielder last year for a world record and we just signed another one for £40m. And Herrera actually is one of our most important players. Those 3 depending on the system will play most of our games.
And at no10 (which is Fellaini's actual position) we have Mata, Mkhy and even Rashford. So he's not playing regularly there.
Fellaini will get games of course but he's a squad player. Yes you could say squad players are important too but he is only as important as other squad players like Lingard or Smalling.

Starting to wonder whether this is on or off. I know Jose appreciates him and would rather not lose him, but maybe it's partly a ruse to drive up the price & partly a smokescreen for another transfer in. I seriously doubt he'll get an extension, so I don't see the wisdom of keeping him on when a decent offer is on the table. Maybe someone like Dendoncker is in the works, but we don't want the selling clubs ideas that extra money is on hand if Fellaini is sold beforehand.

Those managers are just damn lazy to make a very creative team. Its easier to play hoofball as a plan B than tweak the team to make things work.

Can't stand Fellaini being a starter for us, but denying he offer tactical alternatives that can useful in certain games is daft.
Had his best season playing as #10 / Support Striker for Everton. Agree he is useful to throw into the game with 15 mins remaining if Mata or Mkhi are having a stinker at #10 and the defence is too packed to penetrate.
So long as he doesn't start the important games in CM I'm OK with him staying. But Pogba and Herrera aside, I would also like to see Pereira get more starts than Fellaini. Pereira has a chance of being an important future player for us, while Fellaini is never going to be anything more than a backup or sub going forward.
Fellaini not being great in the air is the biggest myth going. He wins 95% of headers especially in our own half. Look at the set pieces we defend and you'll see the ball bouncing off his Afro more almost all the time.
Those teams don't have a Fellaini cause there's only one Fellaini. I can't think of another player like him. Perhaps that's why the managers like him so much.

Against a pressing team we can have both Lukaku and Fellaini as options to go over the press allowing our defenders to release the ball quickly to either target man. The Ajax manager complained about Fellaini being used this way in the Europa League final, but why should we play into our opponent's hands?

It's a shame there was no truth in this one. I can see why Jose is a fan and Fellaini always gives 100% but he just isn't good enough.
My biggest issue with him is how much impact his presence in the team has on the style of play. His movement of the ball is so slow that playing through midfield is extremely difficult. Adding that to his physical presence and the team almost has to play long whenever he is on the pitch.

That's more to do with our inabilty to send in decent crosses .
Put a decent cross in and he will deliver and has proven that plus he has a lot more skill Than given credit for .
I don't see peoples problem with him ,he isn't a starter yet doesn't complain does what he is asked to do would ruin through a brick wall if asked.Has scored and assisted some very important goals at crucial times.

I Agree, he doesnt play the ball forward, but he is not in the team to be that guy who does that. He will be used against teams like Liverpool , where their whole ideology is based on pressing the defenders when they have the ball. Fellaini will be used as the option where De gea will go long and expect fellaini to keep the ball against Hendo/Can and start the attacking move.
We did the same at anfield however we couldnt counter much in attack.
I am hoping we sign perisic because we need that winger wing back who will put in crosses and takes on his man. Zlatan was good, but because he hardly made runs behind. defenders ganged up on martial /rashford on the wings and nullified the attack.
I suppose the club will just assess his use to the team over the next year and we might well see him get a short extension

Well that statement is pretty emphatic to say the least. It's no coincidence that Fellaini has now been an integral part of the side under 3 managers and it's obvious his attitude and commitment make up for his lack of quality. However on the other hand he wouldn't get into Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern or any other top club so I don't see why he should be good enough for us.
He is pain-stakingly average. Tier(s) below Pogba, Herrera and Matic and on a similar level to current Carrick but him staying is not worth getting het up about when his role is merely in a squad capacity.
