This would be my choice.

Roots Manuva is pretty good, too. Not so familiar with that album, though.

Was well impressed by the Vampire Weekend album - thought they might just be about 1 or 2 good singles that I heard on the radio but the whole album is great.

The new Roots Manuva album is quite different from his previous - you should check it out

Most of the others mentioned above I like, so no need to mention them again. But other good albums from 2008 include...
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Lie Down in the Light
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
Lykke Li - Youth Novels
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! (has really grown on me)
Portishead -Third
TV on the Radio - Dear Science

An honorable mention to Jonny Greenwood's 'There Will Be Blood (OST)'

I like their earlier stuff, but thought this was a kinda underwhelming album. Didn't really get into it as much as i would've liked. Few great tracks on it though

Lots of others like Konk by Kooks, Oracular Spectacular by MGMT and Emergency by Pigeons

i think its one of those that, depending on your geographics, it leaked on the net and came out in the US in dec 07 but came out in uk in Jan 08

Well in that case I am editing the first post and making it a top6

Crystal Castles is slowly turning into my favourite album of all time, can't wait for the next.

10. Lydia - Illuminate
9. Portugal. The Man - Censored Colors
8. Thrice - Alchemy Index 3 & 4
7. The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath
6. Anthony Green - Avalon

Some good choices, I actually thing DGD have improved since Johnny left. Was gutted when he joined Emarosa, I thought Chris had a much better voice and after hearing their EP years ago was waiting ages for their album to come out. Oh well, Johnny's voice isn't actually that bad and Relativity is still a good album

Millencolin - Machine 15
Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Offspring - Rise and Fall
Kings of Leon - Only by the Night
New Empire - Come with me Tonight

I was actually going to put that in my top5 but when I looked it said it came out in 2007 - great album

feck it, man.

This is one of my favourite albums of last year, and the year before that, and the year before that and so on....

Amy MacDonald :nervous:

Was released in July 2007 (UK), but in 2008 elsewhere so I guess you can put it here.
And if you do, so will I. I'm not sure many of my favourite albums from 2008 will live for very long, but this is an album I guess I could still listen to when I'm old.

I enjoyed the Atmosphere one, Andrew Bird's album (Scythian Empires?), Hot Chip one, Lupe Fiasco's obviously; Raconteurs, Portishead, MGMT and Oasis were alright and that's about it. Am I getting old or was 08 a really fecking shit year for music?
Let's see. Off the top of my head I can remember listening to nine whole albums from last year. Two of them were brilliant, two very good, four good and two somewhere in the region of fecking terrible, all adding up to an average of good and a half. But in terms of quantity it was probably the worst year since 99 or something.

Which 2 were brilliant? I think you tried to post them earlier but that post is just blank for me ...

I think not appreciating new music can actually be a sign of getting old!
Even though it is so easy to gt hold of nowadays, I tend to listen to less and less new music and am happy with all my old stuff - not sure whether this is because my standards are higher than when i was younger due to having to listened to so much more music over time - but every now and again an album comes along which restores my faith in music and keeps me interested

Elbow and portishead have put out some good albums... ummm.... cant think of any more, dont listen to recent stuff so much

Hey, it's blank for me too now. I saw them earlier today. They were Paavoharju - Laulu Laakson Kukista and Gang Gang Dance - Saint Dymphna.

I think not appreciating new music can actually be a sign of getting old!
I can certainly be a sign of getting a real job and a family. (Or of being short on money and internet connections, which is my excuse for checking out so little music last year.)

Current 93 - Birth Canal Blues (this is an EP though)

Baby Dee - Safe Inside the Day

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip - Angles

Laphroaig - would be useful if you labelled your choices as it is not always obvious what the feck it is!
