Fat Joe: '50 Cent is a has-been rapper'

What makes me dislike him (I used to listen to him as well) was that he was exactly what he rapped against in his songs (especially in Hip Hop is dead). He moved to the more commercial side of Hip Hop to sell more and get more money and on the other hand he sang about that Hip Hop nowadays was only about getting money, cars, hoes blah blah.
That was pretty cringeworthy if you ask me
.

BTT: Fat Joe himself is pretty much exactly what you would define as a has-been rapper. He is still right though, 50 Cent has become so whack it's unreal.

Yeah he did sell out, when he was hanging with Puff and stuff

but with Stillmtic he came back to his roots and I don't honestly think he sold out since

Nas compromised his music, earlier fans and the direction and chracter his earlier career projects, in aid to achieve more. More money, more recognition and a bigger platform to sell his music.

Not because he 'couldn't' produce music like Illmatic. That to me is retarded.

every album since Stillmatic, he has kept it real, sacrificing sales in the process

he could still be rapping with Genuine and making songs like 'oochy wally wally'

but he hasn't, and that's why most of his fans from Illmatic still feck with him

These are n't the kind of tracks sell outs make

pure inspiration

So which artists are the exception to the rule then, haven't "sold out" and are still churning out the gold that they did in the '90s?

Come on, that's rubbish though.

Street's Disciple
Hip Hop Is Dead
Untitled

These albums are fillers. Barely anything in there 'kept it real'.

 I fecking loved Street's Disciple

This is that illshit!

Untitled he had some sort of message in there, it certaintly wasn't a commercial project, I didn't like the album much though

although that track Fried Chicken with Busta, I don't know anybody who does't like that

ok Hip Hop is Dead was pretty wank and he actully teamed up with...sigh....WillIAM:(

Okay, I give you Thief's Theme, yes that was a heavy track.

That's my point, those albums weren't the Nas we grew up with. Fair enough, nothing is like Illmatic, but It was Written, Stillmatic, they still had certain styles and expectations. These albums didn't live up to those at all apart from a couple tracks on each one.

Personally I don't really care whether someone is real or not. For me Hip Hop means entertainment and getting into the right mood.
Rappers with good lyrics that use intelligent word games and metaphorical language are as important as good beats.
Their background doesnt really bother me as long as they are not talking about beeing real as feck and beeing underground (and mean it) when they wouldnt lose out any opportunity to make money with their music.

did you like God's Son though?

This track is one of my fave rap songs of all time, a dedication to him mum that died

when I first heard this it almost bought tears to my eyes

and this track is reminscent for that story telling flow people loved Illmatic for

Oh and my Book of Ryhmes! One of the best, original rap songs Nas ever done, God's Son was quite an album when I think about it!

That's why mother feckers like Blaq Poet are immortal and will never die.

He's been doing that shit since the 80's and I been listening since the 90's.

Not a god damn things changed in 2010.

Selling out or not, well for me it doesnt make any difference.
I just didnt like his style anymore and all his talk about hip hop beeing dead when he sold out himself wasn't right you know?
people in glass houses and so on

I liked about half of it, loved a few songs.

"Made You Look"
Zone Out
Heaven
"Last Real Nigga Alive"
Get Down

Zone out and obviously Made you Look are ridiculous.

Yeah I understand

but that Hate me Now track with Puff talking all in the background and duringthe chorus, I'm sure Nas feels embarassed by it

and this stuff

You have to ask Nas what he was smoking! shit, atleast he's still lyrical

Jesus!

That's that Stillmatic shit, that was amazing

but I loved the intro, It just said I'M BACK

All that wack shit I was on, I'm sorry, this is the real me!

'Blood of a slave, heart of a king'

one of my friends actually got that tatted on himself

Yeah I used to listen to the intro on repeat as well.

I came to hip hop late, so I had the joys of listening to all these albums in the last 5-10 years. Its not the same as being there when they first dropped, but its pretty good being able to listen to albums that are considered greats for the first time.

Get Fashawn's - Ode To Illmatic album. It's like listening to the album for the first time and trying to work out what the feck Nas is saying. Only one song on the album that isn't an original.

Sometimes it's better, because nobody is making shit like they used to, I like listening to music that makes you travel back in time

Same as Boss. I feel like sometimes I'm listening to the holy grail of Hip-Hop when I find a certain track I haven't heard in years, or not at all. I would say about 80% of my collection is dated pre-95. I'm sort of glad I didn't grow up with the heart of it, even though I did, I just wasn't aware of it, because it leaves so much left to be found. Rather that, then to think I heard it all back then and things will never be as good, I'm comforted because I know there's so much more to find and even to this day, nearly 20 years later I can still find albums that will amaze me.
