Far Cry 2

tempted to get this on ps3 so I can shoot you lot in the face, but I still prefer the 360 controller

I think the majority so far in this thread are getting it for the PC

I wouldn't mind a Caf multiplayer game with others once i get used to it

You can use your PS3 controller on PC, just plug it in with the USB cable and then get the drivers for it. Google it, I cant be arsed to link to it.

Liking this so far, few grumbles such as random attacks when trying to get to missions etc but out of the box its very decent.

Ya bollox...still havn't got my copy yet.

where did you order it from?

Another hour played and now I can give a proper analysis of it. Overall its a good game BUT its not a great game that I thought it would be. For a game that promises stunning graphics it simply doesn't, the fire effects and explosions are great though.

The worst part of this game though is the enemy. The map is large so it takes a fair old while to get from A to B anyway, especially if you dont have a vehicle but the sheer amount of checkpoints on the route's is ludicrous, every single one you will be attacked by atleast 4 enemies and then chased in trucks if you just try and leg it. Getting to the actual missions is harder than completing the missions, and that isnt good enough. This game needs a big old patch to sort itself out but I think it may be fundamentally flawed.

I was hoping this would get the old fps juices flowing again after COD4 for other a year but it's not to be, this isnt a patch on COD4 and that game was linear. Now I have to wait another few weeks for World at War and hope it's half decent, cause this aint up to much.

This is the problem with Far Cry 2 and other Crytek games. The maps are too open for FPS, and the gamer is left to FIND the action himself. They want us to have more freedom, to choose our plan of attack and be able to execute it without being flooded with enemies, but the distances you have to travel just ruins it.

I remember in Crysis there was this part where I was travelling for about 15 or so minutes.

That's the issue with this one though, the action finds YOU far too often, you can't just go to your next mission, you have to fight all the way to the intial offer, then fight all the way to the otherside of the map, rinse and repeat. I can live with the travelling bit because it slows the game down abit but when I have to kill maybe 10-15 targets to go to complete a mission to kill 1 its taking the piss.

Honestly if you can id rent this first console owners.

Think this is brilliant. Loads of little quality touches. Like all the flash fires. Was camped out on a hillside waiting for a convoy, fired a rocket into it and started sniping but it got a bit troubling. Spun around to find cover only to find I'd set the whole landscape behind me on fire with the backblast from the rocket launcher :D

Then another time I'd just blown up a checkpoint and set it on fire with Molotov's. Anyway the fire spread to the ammo depot which went of with bullets flying everywhere :D Almost fecking killed me as well

Little things like having dig bullets out yourself and unjam weapons, how you throw yourself between the drivers seat and machine gun in the jeeps is all good to see

Gunplay is very satisfying too, something that was lacking in Crysis anyway. It's great when you shoot someone but they don't die, they just try picking themselves up as best they can and throw themselves into the nearest cover. Really well animated, and the weapons are very satisfying too. Love the Dragunov  The sound is also brilliant, from the voice acting to the death screams, to when you're driving over wooden bridges or through water

And the graphics are superb, and it's not even that demanding. Can run it on max settings very comfortably

I like all the console FPS touches as well, the stats. Good to see wildlife as well. Was bombing through some woods in the rain, checking out my map and I accidentally ran over a family of deer

Annoying how fast the enemy can drive though. You can't just bomb through checkpoints because after a few seconds they'll have someone on you bumper firing a machine gun into the back of your head.

Anyway, not even 10% through it yet but I reckon this is the best game since Stalker. If only Stalker had this engine and Farcry2 had that concept

Game needs a disguise/incognito mechanism where you can nick an enemy jeep and get through their checkpoint safely unless you linger too long and they eyeball you.

Always seems to end up with their jeeps ramming you and blowing the engine of yours while you switch to the gun, blow them away and take their vehicle.

Having said that I'm really loving the majority of gunfights in this, being so open means that you're never really sure of cover unless your back is in a corner (and even then bullets pass right through tin shacks etc.) I read people complaining about enemies taking too many shots, but if you aim for the centre mass (basically the chest/shoulderblades area) then the first shot should land there and recoil will shift the next shots up into their noggin. :D

Oh and they should definitely keep this away from kids who like to play with matches.

Gun accuracy, recoil etc is all spot on this I must admit, game gets alot more playable once more weapons are unlocked.

I still havn't got my copy yet....fecking livid...and its bank holiday this Monday at the very earliest i'll get it Tuesday

I got it off ebay, I am not with my 360 till next sunday anyway, so its ok by me. Just. But I also bought Fallout 3 and Fable. So this one will have to wait till I have played/completed/replayed Fallout 3, which is the one I am most excited about.

This game is pissing me off, keeps telling me to get malaria tablets at Mike's bar but I can't even fecking get there because I keep passing out. What the feck am I meant to do?

Are you hitting the "heal" button when the symptoms appear? Eventually you can accept missions from the pastor in the church and work for the underground who pay you in tablets.

Oh right, I thought the heal button was just for wounds?

Nah, it has a couple of uses. When you get Malaria effects it pops a pill, when you're low on health it uses a syrette and when you're near death it fixes one of the many wounds you might have and puts you back to two bars of health.

But I don't have any pills, I keep passing out on my way to get them.

Have you done the first few missions you've gotten? You shouldn't get affected if you head directly to them, and once you've completed them the guy'll give you pills. If you take a wrong turn somewhere or head for Mike's you'll pass out. It's the tutorial phase and how they keep you in the area

He told me to head for mike's to get some pills. Or do I do that after I do the next mission?

Just check if you have any outstanding objectives. iirc, you have to secure a safehouse, then scout out an enemy base, then kill everyone and rescue your first buddy. Then you meet him at Mike's

Can't believe the difference between "Very High" and "Ultra High" shadows, when everything casts a real-time shadow on everything else it makes for much better atmosphere. Didn't affect frame-rate too much either!
