Chances of Newcastle moving for a goalie before the next gameweek?

Linked with De Gea recently, could possibly spend a bit too. Might throw a few of our squads into turmoil.

Not really. It would spare most of us the agony of picking the wrong keeper every week.

TAA, Saliba and Gusto (on my bench) collecting 0 points between them. I was feeling good when I saw Salah missed a penalty but his 2 goals and assists will likely knock me back down the table by quite a margin.

Suddely things look ok. 60 points, Bowen + Ward Prowse to come vs. Sheff Utd.

Not fantastic but could be a lot worse.

Edit: Make that 62, I have 2 1-pointer subs coming in for Zinchenko and Haaland. Every little helps!

Probably a better defensive option than 95% of FPL defenders this season, whoever he is.

Not that easy, it's Brighton.

Shit, I'm looking at next weeks week's fixtures! Brighton might actually be better, one or zero clean sheets all season, something like that. Sheff Utd tightened up a bit since Wilder's appointment. I'll roll with that theory until tomorrow at least.

Last week I play Dubravka and Raya saves pen. This week I play Raya and Dubravka saves pen

Should be my best week, 80 with Bowen and Aerola to play. Pervious best was 81 in the first week. This has been the worst year I have had in over 20 years playing.

I had a decent week but could have been a 100+ of I made a couple of different decisions. That last Salah pen fecked me.

Feel a bit more vindicated for keeping Gordon for Palmer and avoiding a minus 4 hit, was expecting Gordon to do something versus Liverpool.

Though, I'm stupid enough to use up my two free transfers this week and not realize Salah and Son are going to AFCON next gameweek :) So definitely going to get a minus 4 hit now.

Wow that’s a lot of fpl experience!

how much harder is it now to get a high rank than it was a decade ago?

I think it's a lot harder, but then I have only had one year finishing under 60,000 over all in the last 8 years, when I used to be in the top 100,000 most years. There's 3 or 4 times the people playing now and there is an awful lot more resources available. There's all these experts on youtube with their own channels and web sites like fantasy football Scout and I believe Sky Sports has a fantasy football show. It's big thing now , to do well you need to be on top of things all the time. I think the people who do well must be spending a lot of hours on it. They are into analytics, spreadsheets and all kinds of statistics, I just don't have the time or the energy anymore.

I agree, it takes the fun out.

I generally only follow Ben Crellin for the DGW info and that's about it. Obviously follow Reddit & X to see early team sheets and then this forum to rant when things go wrong.

But I see most of my rivals looking at YouTube FPL channels and Fantasy Football Hub etc too get an advantage but for me, that's not where the fun is. Especially YouTube influencers... At that point, they're making the team for you, where's the fun in that?

93 with all done, still happy with Foden captaincy despite Salah outscoring him as it could have been well worse.

Barring injuries Bowen will definitely be my Salah replacement, as for Son I'll probably need to spend a little more time on this. Ideally I want to do Haaland, Bowen and Garnacho in for Solanke, Salah and Son but with two weeks until the next round of games a lot can change.

Midfield consists of Salah, Son, Kudus, Foden and Saka.

Will get rid of Salah as I got him in late so his value hasn’t risen too much.
Son I had at 9.2 and he’s now 9.9 - so makes less sense to transfer him I suppose.

Who’s the popular choice generally? Palmer and Bowen I suppose? Trying to see if there’s another player to get ahead of the curve a bit.

What are fellow Trippier owners doing?

I think I'm gonna bench him for the time being. Newcastle's fixture run turns again in Feb so hoping they can pick up some form again then.

I've got absolutely nothing on the bench at the moment though and having to play Archer next gw. Bus team...

Areola
Porro Gabriel Doughty
Saka Bowen Palmer Foden
Archer Solanke Twatkins

Dubravka, Trippier, Son, Kabore & £10.7m in the bank

Will give the armband to one of those mids.

I'm similar to you (did Salah to Bowen to avoid a 0.2 swing).

Raya
Porro, Saliba, Doughty, Branthwaite
Saka, Bowen, Palmer, Foden
Alvarez, Twatkins

Subs: Dubravka, Archer, Son, Kabore & £11.1m in the bank.

I'm gonna wait and do Archer to Haaland for a -4. If Haaland not confirmed fit, will probably be Son to someone.

Yeah if Haaland is confirmed fit I'm happy to take the -4 for Archer to Haaland. Not sure there's anyone I really want for Son so think I'd just play as is in that case and get him the week after. Gusto for Kabore or getting Estu in again is on my mind but not sure that's worth a hit either.

Made an early transfer from Livramento to Gusto before any price drops considering Burn is back. Might go -4 to remove salah as I have two enablers in midfield in Garnacho and Sarabia l. Or should I be getting Haaland back for Solanke or Alvarez

team for GW21 so far
Pickford (Dubravka)
TAA Porro Gusto (Semedo, Taylor)
Sarabia, Garnacho, Richarlison, Saka (Salah)
Alvarez, Solanke, Watkins

anyone feeling like punting on Garnacho? Super cheap (allowing easy Salah, Alvarez -> Garnacho, Haaland), quite nailed and good fixtures ahead. We are obviously abysmal when it comes to scoring and I wouldn't consider Burnley attacking options either, but Garnacho is rather selfish and motivated, so I can see him scoring a few soon. Too punty and I am too much blinded by my love for this guy?

I don't really know what my route back to Salah will be yet. Too many what if's in play. Will just try and roll a transfer nearer the time and cross that bridge when we come to it.

Getting Haaland back in needs to happen first anyway. That will then give me a potential benching headache in my front 8 which is solved by keeping Son.

It's simple. Bowen/Saka to Garnacho (and bench him) then Son to Salah.

Only if Son stays out wide which I don't think he will when Maddison is back. Saka is defo on the chopping block though. Saka and Bowen to Salah and Garnacho works.

I think everyone will want that Haaland, Salah, Son combo back again soon enough.

Agree. I started in 2005/06 and then stopped in the mid 2010's, only got into it a few seasons back. It has changed so much since then, like you said with the YouTube channels etc. What makes it less fun is that so many teams have the same players, almost every team has Haaland, Son, Saka and Salah, so there is less competition between friends.

A few of my friends (small group of 3) played FPL draft because of this. But the problem with that is everything depends on the first draft. And that luck is more prononunced if the league has only 3 members like we had.

I remember the days when fantasy footy scout felt like a sneaky resource.
Now it's the minimum fare and all that gub you mention above is standard.

Yep, and what a lot of people don’t realise is most of those content creators are using a model to tell them what to do with their team, and then all the content around that is just “fluff” really. So, in reality, all those following the content creators are using the same model second hand.

How do you know this for sure? I feel like the more popular ones can do anything really as they’ve built up their follower base, so why bother with a model.

I am in chats with other content creators, I’ve seen first hand how they work “behind the scenes”. Plus someone tracked one of the well known ones and his opening team and subsequent moves exactly followed what one of the main models suggested for weeks.

They are still under pressure to keep doing well.

I really wonder such a model would work.

I'm a statistician (actuary) by profession and it's intriging thinking of how to model such a team, what variables (other than basic ones like fixture difficulty, performance) go into it.

This is pointless. May as well close the GW already. Congrats Areola owners, commiserations Bowen owners.
