Fantasy Premier League 20/21

Folks, I could really do with some advice here. Chasing my ML leader who is 3 points ahead of me. My team is:

Martinez
Azpi Dallas TAA (Coady Shaw)
Lingard Salah (C) Raphinha Son (Gundogan)
Antonio Kane DCL

His is:

Alisson
Rudiger Keane TAA (Aurier AWB)
Saka ESR Salah (C) Son (Rodriguez)
Iheanacho Kane DCL

I worry about his Alisson clean sheet (likely?) so have been pondering getting in Phillips for Shaw to counter that. But at the same time I do want to get Bamford in as I think he might do well against WBA (so do DCL-->Bamford). Any advice? The former move is obviously a defensive strategy, but there may be enough differentials in our teams already to overcome a -3? I worry that he might use his 1 FT to bring in Dallas / Bamford which would then put me on the backfoot. I don't think doing both Phillips + Bamford for a -4 hit is worth it at this stage.

Your team looks in better shape there. I'd be nervous to be your opponent.

Dallas, Antonio, Lingard, Raph are your trump cards.
Martinez probably covers his Keane, and Dallas covers his Allison.

I'd probably stick at DCL to Bamford, but expect him to do the same.
However, I think you'll see it through as 3 points is nothing.

Will Bielsa be benching some players?
I want to buy a Leeds midfielder or midfielder under 6.0
Harrison or Raphinha?

I'd taken it almost as read that my rival would do Bruno to Mane for free. Now a couple of people have mentioned not being able to afford doing that move for free - I realised I'd been overlooking the whole buying/selling price thing, despite having lost about 0.4m on Bruno as recently as last week.

Looking at the stats, he's had Bruno since Week 9, when he was 10.7m. He's now 11.4m, down from 11.5m on 15th May before his week 37 game, when he benched him.
You get 50% of the gains, so he'd get a selling price of 11m? It'd only go to 11.1m if Bruno was 11.5m - which as above he hadn't been since before week 37.

Now looking at Mane, he's now 11.8m, but was 11.7m.

Cash in bank? 0.6m.
So even if he'd done the transfer a few days back, he couldn't afford it for free right?

I wondered if he'd left that exact money to do Bruno to Mane, but I think it's pure coincidence it's "close" as he did Soucek to Willock -simply based on Willock's form.

@Dirty Schwein @CassiusClaymore @BeforeKeanetherewasRobson , and other lads, does that maths check out?

I think you’ll be okay. Only issue you have with bringing in Bamford is if Leeds have an off day, you’ve got 3 of their players and will probably struggle.

What £0.7m halved and rounded is £0.3m?

Yes.

Sat in a pub in sunny Leeds. Absolutely chock full of loud arsed lads mouthing off about Leeds season.

Sitting here quietly

So I've got a 22 point lead in my work league (ahead for the first time all season as of 2 gws ago!). But I'm 3rd in my football league, 13 points behind second, and 27 behind first. Top 4 get prize money. And another big league where I'm fighting for top 10 money which is all very close.

I can't decide whether to play it safe and win the work one, or go rogue and risk losing it.
A) Bruno to Mane, cap Salah
B) Bruno to Mane, cap Mane or even Dallas
C) Bruno to Aubameyang, cap Auba

Im 16 points ahead, Im contemplating taking a hit to swap Bruno to Mount but that might be silly? I can play holding instead of Bruno. I can’t afford mane.

Ta pal - your last 4 words gave me the key realisation above!
You probably don't wanna be taking a -4 unless it's either a high ceiling player coming in/you're captaining them, or the player you're taking out is injured and you don't have any subs. Not sure any of those 3 are your situation, so Holding is probably not a bad fill in. Though you could still start Bruno in case Ole confounds us all!

And all the other stuff
Bit of research calms me down a bit now.

Although now Bamford looks a likely transfer and maybe captaining him?

Leeds have had a weird season. Battered many, many times, yet still the perception that they're some sort of Brazil 70.

I've a similar situation - work league 21 point lead, different league (both cash leagues), hold a 3 point lead for 5th (£50), with only top 5 getting cash. £100 for 4th and works up to £500 for 1st).

I've not given the second league a look differential wise, the work one is the one i care about - £240 1st, v £170 or so 2nd, but trophy and the win are the critical parts.
Depends on what is more important to you, especially if your work league isn't cash - not sure as you didn't confirm.

I would go with Bamford or Wood in for DCL.

Thanks, all! I appreciate your encouraging my gut feeling and going in for Bamford. A good point raised re: Leeds potentially misfiring, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in front of a home crowd and a West Brom team with nowt to go for, the players will be up for it....

I have a 16 point lead.

My team:

Mendy
Dallas digne Robertson
Lingard Fernandes salah(c) raphinha

Kane Watkins bamford
Bench: Forster zaha holding white

my rival:

martinez
Rudiger digne dallas
Rashford salad greenwood raphinha
Calvert lewin Watkins kane
Bench Sanchez kabak Jorginho konsa

Should I take a -4 hit to remove Bruno or should I preserve my slender lead? I cant afford Mane so it would have to be someone like Mount or Pepe I bring in. What will be his likely move?

Sounds right to me. If he really wants Mane surely he'll take a hit though? I'd gamble in a tight run league if it meant the difference between 1st and 2nd.

This is the problem with so many leagues.

Work league isn't cash, but it's about the pride isn't it. Especially since I'm incredibly cocky and win it every year! The second league is £200 down to £25 and the third is like yours £500 for top but down to 10th place.

I might just roll the dice because it'll be more fun.

Wait for leaks tomorrow. You should be fine with lead tbh. He's got Rashford and Greenwood to worry about.

Also Bamford>DCL

If I was him I'd bring in Antonio and captain him.

Just realised Bruno went up 10.5m to 10.7m in between weeks 8 and 9 in the 2 week international break.
However, i can see he brought him in the second Wednesday, so it's certain he was at least 10.6m then, so 10,6m then to 11.4m now, is still only the 11m value, and still can't afford to do it as a single.
Lovely!

Can't see him doing a -4, as that makes it a -25 deficit.
Think he probably does either Watkins or Nacho to Bamford instead now. And either benches Bruno and plays Willock , or risks starting Bruno knowing he has Willock/Nacho to come in.

Our work league has been going 20+ years, even pre-dating me working at the co and hyping it up to ridiculous levels
It used to be only current workers and pretty much only our head office, so 20-25 people max.
I took over and I've increased it to 80-90, with ex workers, a few suppliers and about 6-7 different sites involved :D

I've only won it once, but have lost it twice on the last day, and been top 5 numerous times. Just about stayed in the money (top 8) the last 2 years.

Desperate to see it out after leading since that 143 point bench boost double game week!

I've won all my other leagues comfortably, bar the one I'm 5th in, and this tight battle.

Think I beat my mate in our 1v1 league by 500 points! Ridiculous, but a good return after he won last year for the first time in 10 years

The maths makes sense but he might have been taking a hit either way. Unless he done the transfer whilst Bruno was 11.5 and Mane 11.7?

My team with 3 transfers (TAA, Antonio and raphinha) for -4:

Martinez
Dallas TAA Phillips
Salah (c) Lingard Son Raphinha
Bamford Kane Antonio

Good to go? Defending a 33 point lead (29 with the hit).

Nah Bruno was 11.4 when week 37 started, and must have been 10.6 when he bought him. In fact even if he had been 10.5, it's till be a selling price of 11
So he'd be squeezed out with the 0.6m in bank even when Mane was 11.7m

He can't do a -4 for Mane and Bamford too luckily.

I think he "probably" just does Bamford in, hopes Bruno plays and then has to decide which of Watkins & Nacho he sells, and which he benches. Very risky strategy really.
I hadn't realised Watkins is on mad form, 7 attacking returns in last 8.
Would be a fitting end to the season if I could cheer Watkins spoils like early season again!

Is there a chance he goes for a YOLO move like Aubamayang in and captain him? I considered this move last year and was talked out of it. Had I stuck to my instincts, I would have won my ML. Instead I wasted my TC on Silva

Yes, the straight switch is a danger. A Pepe, Auba, Mount, City etc.
Real hit or bust move, but it'll feel scary going against Salah who is the highest I've ever seen a player voted for in the captain poll on fantasy scout.

He also has to decide who to leave out of his front 8. Willock/Nacho or Watkins presumably. I found last week that Watkins can poke a 9 pointer in even from a tough game!

Tough call for him really.
1) Leave Bruno and do Bamford
2)Forget Bamford and go for a big gamble on midfield cap.

I genuinely don't know what i'd do from those options.
Just hope Greenwood/TAA/Antonio/Salah cap if he hasn't put some attacking points on the table early doors to settle things down.

Just took a -4 hit by transferring out Bruno + Kane for Salah and Firminho. I just have a feeling Liverpool are gonna go for blood without any resistance. And at least if they do I’ll have the smallest of victories in FF..

If they fail, even better :D.

That's brilliant. I'm just worried about my little team league with like 20 of us which I've won 3 years in a row. We've got one big league too with 265 people in, but it's all casuals with no money or trophies. Think I need to take charge of that like you did.

I don't wanna be in this thread if you throw it away and come second again

Oh bloody hell mate - trust me, nor do I

At least the other 2 years had big context. One year we were on the Telegraph league and you were limited to 24 transfers. I'd boned about 16 away by autumn, and then lost when Fergie inexplicably brought Carroll on fror 5mins in the FA cup final!
Then the other year was the year Lampard and Gerrard were scoring 20 points each week. I had Lampard (and Alex), and they were both rested for the FA cup final the next week!! Could not make it up.

No FA cup final to ruck it up this year thank goodness!

ps take charge mate - 265 is epic! Just take over, get £10 entry, and even if that drops to half you've got one hell of a league.
Just make sure you do winning places down to say top 10, do a few cups etc, random prizes/top scores etc. You need to look after the "tail" or you'll lose loads each year.

I also do a ridiculously long update email each week - last year I'd used a website to change people's photos into cartoons, or do lookalikes!
Scaled that down a bit this year!

Decided this is exactly what I'm going to do, so definitely a chance someone is just as crazy!

If you're chasing more than 20 points, this is a great move, basically getting in differential player plus Captain.

Let's take @Sandikan situation.

A differential Auba can easily score two and get the full bonuses for a massive 26 pointer plus he gets half of what Salah gets.

It's a risk worth taking.

30 pointer you mean! Or 32 points if they also keep a cleany!
Scary thought, which is why I was pleased Mane can't be that man (pending the working out not being flawed or a -4!) , as he'd be the best chance of such a haul.

At least if he's gone the Bamford angle, that's a point less, no cleany. Plus it's still brave going against Salah, as he could easily be the hauler himself, and lose 15 points on a player he had himself.

Really hope my differentials bag some early points.

But until tomorrow my internet pals...off to sleep, with a 13mile run in the morning planned to forget about it until about 1.30pm and a mad last hour of checks and sniffing round the net for last knockings info

I forgot the useless twat was a midfielder this year

Am I mad for picking Casillas (Leeds gk 99% sure of starting) over Mendy? Wont Villa score against Chelsea? Watkins is in great form, Grealish back.

I rarely think a -4 is a good idea, especially on the last GW ....... BUT

I'm trying to think brave (and I have to catch up 10 points) so what's the thoughts of Son and DCL out, Mane and Antonio in??

Spurs with new boss aren't much better than with Jose and Leicester away isn't easy. DCL is just useless

Whereas Mane (Liverpool pushing for 4th) and Antonio (home to Southampton) both seem good options.

I still have Kane to cover Spurs (i.e. when he dives and wins/scores a penalty)

? @Sandikan

I am more and more thinking Tierney, but does he take set pieces recently ? Did not watch the last game. Cresswell do and I think Chilwell might do.

Also other ideas.

Castagne has not been great as central defender so will he move back to the wing?

Could Pep do some odd moves? I guess probably better to not try to guess Pep unless we know for sure.

Depends. If those two are differentials, then yes maybe.

46 points clear top in my ML, and about 100 odd clear in the other one.

The only other thing I have to play for is 1st place in Northern Ireland for the month of May. Currently 11 points off top there.

So thought I'd take a bit of a gamble to see if I can get top there. Made 3 transfers for a -8 deduction.

Fernandes, DCL and Benteke out
Pepe, Wood and Werner in

Team is now

Meslier
Robertson Phillips Dallas
Salah Greenwood Pepe Willock
Kane Werner Wood

Henderson Coufel Coleman (inj) Eze (inj)

I think the transfers are quite risque but I'm not confident Bruno will start, DCL isn't on the best form and away to city and then Benteke is away to Liverpool and carrying a knock.

Could of opted for a few safer options such as Bamford, Antonio, Harrison etc.. but wanted to go for a few less popular/more risque ones.

Thinking of taking Salah out for Mane for the differential. 12 points behind and the 200 euro pays off my credit card bill.

I have.

Mesiler (not too worried about GKS)
Trent, Williams, (liverpool) Coufal
Son, Salah, Lingard, Mahrez
Antonio, Kane, Bamford

Leader I think took a minus 8, I would imagine to cover herself and bring in Son and Antonio, less differentials. So Bringing in Mane and captaining him, knowing she has Salah but not Mane..

Both are good options and Son looked anonymous last game or two.
But before that he was something like 4 goals in 5 games and is against a Leicester defence without Evans who need to get some goal difference up.

Everton are the sort of team who let you down in the home bankers but will then score away at a likely rotated City.
However, I'd do the Antonio part for certain.
But really consider the other part.

Evans is still out so Castagne will still be limited at centre back.
Has been a total bust for me. Watched him smash two hauls then brought him in for a blank, then Evans got injured killing his attacking completely.
