That was right kind of pass to Rashford for the third goal. Donny would probably had played the wrong option and gave it to McTominay out wide. High hopes for Pellistri

Yeah lovely weight to it

Not to be mean to Elanga, but we should be starting Pellistri ahead of him. The only reason (at least visible from the outside) to play Elanga is that he has a superior physical attributes.

Granted Elanga is not a CF he was playing up top , Pellestri is a RW.

Hasn't he been injured most of this season and then on loan previous seasons? I don't get why everyone is acting like there must be some disciplinary issues going on or whatever.
He's been on the bench a lot this season and never came off it until this game, that doesn't really make sense so some of us have wondered if it was the same issue that Harnacho had

In fairness, we've completely mismanaged his development. If I were his agent I would have tried move him on ages ago.

Give me a winger that can stretch the play every day of the week. It's not "most play better inverted", it's just the art has been lost amid all these modern cut in and shoot merchants.

Insane but true, only ever got preseason games.

Everyone in the NT and back at Peñarol swears by him as the nicest most level-headed guy around. I've no idea why people assume he must have disciplinary issues.

What those two teams have in common is a senior NT colleague at them pointing at the no-brainer reinforcement.

He should move to Flamengo permanently, hasn't done de Arrascaeta any harm. Big fish small pond maybe, but Brazil is a great pond! I would also get to watch him live more often than he gets minutes for us.

We have mismanaged his development. If the club wanted him to adapt to English football and be ready to play in the Premier League, we should have loaned him to Championship clubs. Pointless sending him to Spain, where they play a completely different style and tempo of football.

By comparison there seems to have been a lot more thought put into Amad's loans. First Scotland, then Championship. Much better to prepare him for the kicks and bumps you get in the Premier League. Facu speaks good English. No reason why the club should've thought it necessary to send him to Spain.

I don't think it would be good for him to go to Flamengo. Antony seems to get subbed after 60 minutes every game, Sancho's going through something, Elanga is completely off form: There's definitely an opportunity for Pellistri to do what Garnacho has done down the left and stake a claim to start games. I hope his situation gets sorted out and he gets more chances to play for Man Utd from here.

And with 5 subs, plenty of chances to sub him on.

The same happened with Amad till the Sunderland loan. We bought those two exciting talents as alternatives for Sancho in 2020 and never had a plan or an idea of what to do with them. It showed a clear disconnect between the scouting department and our first team at the time.

I think it's more that we've basically delegated way too much power to the first team manager. It wasn't just them - buying AWB a year after signing Dalot was once again the same example of that.

As soon as Solskjaer asked for a RB, he should've been either told no and to use Dalot instead or offered a cheap stop gap with the clear instruction that the plan was to develop Dalot into the role long term. We ended up with a 20 and 21 year old RBs, who were both raw, needed game time to develop & cost a lot of money.

No one in their right mind would've said that as he wasn't ready at the time. AWB was rightly ahead of him, at least in his first season. Mourinho had Young and Valencia to rely on, but after they left, Ole had no choice but to sign someone and apparently AWB was on top of the list.

Not from our perspective, no. If we are serious about him we shouldn't loan him at all.

If I were him though, I would seriously consider a permanent move there. Lots of money in Brazilian football these days and his style fits Flamengo and the competitions it plays in really well. He would be a rock star there.

After two years being ignored and stunted in his development as he has I would be excited about that far more than a loan at Leicester. Premier League or not, you just have to look at Andreas Pereira for what your career path looks like at this rate.

Would like to see a bit more of this lad , had decent cameos in the World Cup as well. Be interesting to see if he starts getting more game time here.

Great attitude. I think the loans weren't necessarily a waste, as he did not look overawed at all when he came on. Hope to see him play a part in the rest of our season.

He played at the world cup, league cup is a friendly compared to it.

He looked good enough to be Antony deputy. Has international experience for a nation like Uruguay. Feel ETH will reward him with some more playing time.

I mean he did really well, but it was against a league 1 side late on when they were knackered and chasing the game, so had basically given up on defending. I wouldn't put too much judgement or weight on it aside from that it can't possibly have done his chances of game time any harm

Would like him to get more chances as he's clearly got some ability, but we have Antony, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, Martial, Elanga who can all play wide positions, Fernandes who ETH will use on the right when his tactics suit, and hard to see how there'll be many games where there aren't any of those names ahead of Pellistri.

I understood that he wanted that loan move to Spain, which made me wonder if that’s really where he sees his future

When Elanga was going great guns in the youth team and then broke into 1st team squad many were saying what a talent he is and demanding he be played… now he is derided as shit.
This kid looks more gifted.

ETH seemed impressed by his cameo so that’s a good sign. Needs to keep taking his opportunity like that and i’m sure he will get a start at some point.

I always thought with him being a young kid leaving Uruguay for the first time being in a place where he could speak the language made for an easier transition and that's why the loan to Alaves was favourable to him.

Yes but he got into the squad by playing regularly in la liga for two years

He's wasn't really playing that regularly, that was part of the problem with those loans, in terms of his first team prospects at United.

Lovely cameo from Pellistri but we have to remember it was just a short appearance and against a lower team who were leaving a lot of spaces at that time in the game.

Would like to see him move up Elanga in the pecking order for a while until Elanga can hopefully find some form.

My only concern is we have a lot of wingers and will probably need to make some tough decisions soon.

Rashford
Antony
Garnacho
Sancho
Amad
Elanga
Pellistri

At a guess I would assume this would be the current pecking order for ETH if all were available and at the club right now. I have very high hopes for both Amad and Garnacho so feel that Elanga and Pellistri could be surplus to requirements unless ETH reinvents the position of one or two of the players on that list

Playing regularly? In two seasons at Alavés he only clocked up ~1200 minutes of football. He got more than half of that for the national team in the last calendar year.

Sell Elanga, play Pelistri more. Maybe he can push Antony a bit, I think the latter anyhow needs some competition.

Shame we can’t send him to Sunderland too. Imagine them having Amad and Pellistri on either wing

That's not too bad for a kid straight from the uruguayan league, at least they rate him.

Are we seriously loaning the kid out? That's beyond daft if true.

Not sure why you diss the Uruguayan league. The top teams there compete in the Libertadores with the same clubs the likes of Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández or Moisés Caicedo came from.

It's more an age and maturity thing. When he signed for us he was 18, the same age Valverde was when he moved to Madrid from the same club and league.

The difference was Valverde got a season at Castilla, another on loan at Deportivo La Coruña, and by the time he was 20 he was playing 20+ games a season for Real Madrid including CL games. We only just gave a 21yo Pellistri his debut, a 10 minute cameo.

Peñarol fans are aplit over who was better when they moved. Most would probably agree Pellistri was less raw / more ready. Go figure.

Watford loan might be perfect for him

I agree. They have Sarr and Joao Pedro behind a target man in Keinan Davis, and 2 right-footed goalscorers in the band of 3 behind the striker who need the ball seems like the ideal setup for Pellistri, as his future for United and present and possibly future for Urugay seems to be as a rare right-footed right winger.

Ken Sema is stronger defensively and gives proper width on the left, but Pellistri is the better player and there's enough football that if he's fighting for 4 spots with those 4 others and ends up starting 2/3 games and getting 30 minutes on the bench the other in a battle for the playoffs, that's a proper introduction to English football for a small, young player.

I think it's just Valverde being an elite athlete for his position and Pellistri is a tiny fella who doesn't score goals. Was always going to take longer to make his mark in Europe than Valverde. As you say, a maturity thing, just seemingly physical not mental, because everything we've read and seen of him suggests great character.

I really think Ten Hag has only not played him because he's convinced he's still far away from even scoring 1 in every 4 games, which seems like the bare minimum acceptable from a winger in his system where the 9 drops deep a lot and the wingers are in the half spaces looking to score a lot.

Wait that was his debut? I thought he's played for us quite a few times before??

You are comparing a well developed Valverde who is also three years older/ahead. Valverde's nickname was "little bird", he didn't exactly look like a great athlete... yet.

We should probably get this number 9 you are talking about before getting too precious about Ten Hag's system. It's not like our other right wingers have offered all that much really.
