Facts about football that shouldn't be true - but are

Good technical ability. Not seen him play for years now.

went on a train of thought...

Who was the CB that left United on a free, and Spurs then bought him months later to circumvent paying us a fee?

that was dodgy as feck. Can’t remember who that was, and assume they didn’t go into anything of note.
Wasn’t that the full back? I can’t remember his name but wasn’t he a meme for falling over like a fish?

Zeki Fryers. Having looked, it was back on 2012/13 he played for us. Didn’t think it was that far back.

he’s had a nothing career, not even played 100 games.

This is not correct at all. He is the only Spaniard to have scored 2 hat-tricks.

Raul, Gerard Lopez, Morientes, Joseba Llorente, Negredo and Lucas Perez have all scored hat-tricks.

I know, it was my mistake. If you read further down the thread, someone else mentioned it too. I thought no one would read the whole thread from the start after all this time. Nevertheless, i'll edit the post.

In 57 games, United have only beaten Spanish teams 13 times

PL or English league game? It can't be the latter, surely!

Just checked, it's since 1984. Great record but not "in the entire history of the club".
Both if by English game you mean English League games excluding the cups I dont know about that record in cup competitions but in all English League games in our entire history its a true fact

Jesse Lingard scoring more than one goal on the same day that Liverpool lost on Wednesday wasn't the first time that feat happened, however you'd have to go back to 21st September 2013 for the other occurrence. Lingard scored FOUR goals for Birmingham City on his debut in the Championship while Liverpool lost at home to Southampton.

Jordan Henderson played in both Liverpool games and Michail Antonio played in both games that Jesse Lingard was involved in - in 2013 he played for Sheffield Wednesday (Birmingham City's opponents that day) and in 2021 he played on the same side as Jesse Lingard when he scored the brace.

Ipswich Town have played 31 home games in European competitions throughout their history and have lost none of them, with only five draws and a goal record of 84-12. Their opponents have included the likes of Barcelona (twice), Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Lazio and Feyenoord. Ipswich beat all of them.

Manchester United have NEVER lost a PL/English league game at Old Trafford where they were leading at half time in the entire history of the club.
I'll find you and slap you.

City haven't won at Anfield in 18 years. That's ridiculous to me. I know City haven't always been this City, but the takeover was in what, 2008? 2007?

Thats still a lot of time to not win at Anfield.

Haaland has scored more CL goals than the likes of Ronaldo (R9), Zidane, Villa, Tevez, Falcao & Adriano.

Ryan Giggs didn't score as many goals as some may think.

His most prolific season was 93-94

In fact he only managed more than 10 goals in 5 seasons.

He scored 168 goals in 963 appearances. Paul Scholes got 155 in 718 appearances.

I wonder how he'd be viewed in the modern era of wingers being inverted goal-scorers?

This isn't me having a pop at Giggs, just saying that I thought he regularly got double figures.

This is the most interesting thing. In all honestly, he'd probably have played more on the right, higher up and with 3 CMs behind him with more instruction to score goals.

Different game, different systems. Wingers of yesteryears are more suited as wingbacks in the modern game.

Also that stat is winning goal. There’s plenty of goals 90+, but winning goals happen very rarely. We probably get 1 or 2 a season max. And as said, the last minute winners have a decent chance of being a big defender.

Insane amount of assists though.

I think he would work brillantly in a modern 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2 formation. He is not a goal scoring threat like many modern (inverted) wingers, and he would be a bit to weak defensively for a fullback in a four man defence. But in such a formation he could play on the wing and be quite important for his team.

If Giggs came up in Spain in the mid 00s he would have been Iniesta

He’d have just adapted his game the way he had to when he couldn’t run as fast anymore.

Giggs was a good finisher, he'd regularly hit 20+ seasons as a wide forward in the modern game

In what way? Giggs didn't even come close to being anywhere near as good as Iniesta was. I know your point is based around him growing up in the Spanish system so would've likely been a much better player but I still can't see it personally. Iniesta is, IMO, the best midfield player of all time.

36 y.o. Iniesta is the fifth highest paid footballer, playing in J1 (Japanese League).
