Facts about football that shouldn't be true - but are

UEFA CL knockout games are often fixed and referees have critically altered the outcome through their decisions several times over the years.

Another fact:

Eric Cantona once accused a referee of being bribed after our 0-0 draw in a match with galatassary in the European cup (that led to our exit). He got sent off for making the accusation.

That referee went on to be banned...

For fixing champions League games

Edit:. It was the 0-0 draw not the 3-3 that was the bribed game

The fact that this was not a red card, or even a yellow card. Not sure the linesman could get a better view if he tried.

How did you even remember this ? I’ve seen worse not given tbf.

There are definitely worse fouls than this one. But this stuck with me because it was so bloody blatant right under the nose of the linesman. Can't imagine what must have gone through the minds of the linesman or the referee to not send him off.

I reckon the linesman was staring so intently at the ball, he didn't even see the foot. He was immediately waving his flag to say the ball had crossed the line.

Ronaldo has scored more times against United (3) than he did against Chelsea (1).

Kyle Lafferty's strike partners once included Dybala and Belotti. He outscored both.

He was actually waving for a Chelsea free kick, which is what was given. You can see the ball being launched upfield at the end.

Lingard and Fellaini both played more games for United than Dwight Yorke did

A so called top referee (ex now) fixed a game of football in PL and bragged about it in the media. He never got a suspension, leave alone an outright ban from PL and FA.
And as a matter of fact is now happily in the media giving out his opinions on other referees and rules of the game.
Who? I know Poll was accused?

Among the dutch national team players born 1/7/1976, Van Nistelrooy does not have the highest amount of national team goals.

Anderson (that was defecting on Fabregas) is 30 years old

If you take away all of Zlatan's 29 goals, he was still directly involved in more goals than Falcao.
Falcao: 4 goals/4 assists. Zlatan: 9 assists.

Premier League red cards
Juan Mata 1-0 Diego Costa

not seen that before or have forgotten it. Truly ridiculous that he just walked away from that, I’m not sure there are many fouls that are that blatant!

If only the ref thought this was worth a second yellow it would've been 1-1

Jose Mourinho's 2011/12 Real Madrid are the highest scoring side in a single league campaign in the history of the top 5 leagues with 121 league goals.

His Real Madrid team also recorded over 100 league goals in each of his 3 seasons in Spain.

It's interesting when you consider how notorious his reputation is for being a negative, pragmatic coach with some people labelling his style anti-football. Also, the infamous "park the bus" phrase was coined because of him.

park the bus was said by him to describe Spurs though. it wasn’t said to describe his team. Though he obviously and ironically became known for park the bus football

Yes he is a pragmatic coach, he knows his teams strength and weakness. He knew what his Madrid capable of.
His pragmatism also makes him plays negative defensive anti football.

Van Nistelrooy's total trophy haul at United is limited to:
- 1 PL title
- 1 FA Cup
- 1 League Cup

It just shows how funny football is. Some top strikers would balk at that haul over a six year period, but others would be delighted to have won everything in a country before moving on.

It shows how lucky we are as United supporters that this was deemed to be an underwhelming trophy haul.

True. Truthfully, even by the historical standards at United, he is incredibly successful. It just seems otherwise because we had teams that won three league titles on the spin as well as a champions league almost immediately before and after his time here.

The term pragmatic is massively misused and mistaken to mean defensive football, probably because people heard it used in relation to Jose. Jose was associated with that term because when he first got to England it was deemed unrealistic to expect Chelsea to attack like the established powerhouse clubs. The pragmatic choice was to win ugly or defensively. Pragmatism is defined by the situation and not every instance of defensive football is pragmatic. For example using pragmatic to describe the choice to defend while a goal up and man up will be greatly stretching the term

You’re misremembering. Or I’ve misunderstood. He invented the phrase ‘Park the Bus’.

Latest mad fact:

Anderson is 32 RIGHT NOW.

Thats one year younger than Paul Scholes was in 2008 when he scored "that" goal Vs Barcelona
