Plenty of clubs that could do with him. He's an ideal loan player. Can play in lots of positions.

Good news, SAF words it as if he does want him back,

This probably means he will be our future right left back if things go well on his loan, he is a real talent. I hope he goes to a club which can help him in every way possible and a nice manager would help. Maybe Brucey would have taken him on but maybe a club like Wigan will take a shot on him because they have a nice manager who will look after him.

To me that suggests we'll buy a full back to play on the left. I know it's not Clyne's natural position but he might be a good fit in that he wouldn't cost the earth and he's versatile enough to deputise for Evra when needed. By the time Fabio comes back we'll be hoping he'll have played 40 games or so which would surely give him a better shot at displacing Evra.

First team football is likely exactly what he needs, and he's not going to get it here with Evra having LB pinned down, and there being a small army of players who can play at RB. Hopefully this is a move for him where he says to Sir Alex "look, this is what I can do, get me in your first team plans."

Or that Fryers is staying?

Don't see why it's for sure we're signing a LB next season and not promoting Keane or Fryers. Fabio's a more than competent backup but he couldn't get in because we play Evra almost every game. Not sure why we'd splash out on another LB just to have them warm the bench ahead of giving youth a shot.

I'm not sure Fryers is ready to play that many games just yet. If Evra got injured he'd need to move way ahead of where he is in terms of his development. That'd be an enormous risk, IMO.

also if we sign Clyne then at the end of next season Fabio can come back all guns blazing to challenge for the LB spot and Clyne can try to make the RB spot his own.

That's what I don't understand, although danios second choice and has hardly played this season.

I think it's more the idea that you have a really good player waiting in the wings if needed. With respect to Fryers, I've seen nothing to suggest he's ready to play regularly in the PL, let alone for a team challenging for the title. He might become a good player, but he needs a bit of time. In first team terms, he came from nowhere this season.

who else do we think will go on loan next season? if we sell Berbs then I think Keane will go on loan and also if we sell Owen I think we will keep Kiko and sign another striker.

I'm not sure why we'd trust clyne anymore than fryers, especially out of position.

because he has played in the championship, which is better than what fryers has done. Also he looks to be absolutely fantastic.

Well because he's played 120 senior games. And he looks to have a lot more potential than Fryers. But yeah, he would be out of position somewhat, but he has played there in the past and we've shown this season that we'll mix and match at full back when needed.

Really? He's played well over 100 first team games for Palace, has got their Young Player of the Year award twice, Football League YPOTY once, Palace's POTY once and Championship Player of the Month. He's also played for England U19/U21s a few times. He's got tonnes of experience for someone of that age and LB isn't a completely alien position to him. He's played there a few times for England.

Good for the lad, because it's not easy for him to get enough minutes when Evra is fit, but I don't know if it's a good thing - it's quite possible we're not buying a left-back in the summer and will play Evans there, or Jones. You know.

Got to be Baines.
Stick Evra on the bench, been poor and when not poor, not up to the high standards of a few years ago.

It's a must move. While Rafael was able - at times, at least - to cement himself as our number one right back because of certain circumstances (like lack of clear better players at that role, even when we had O'Shea, Brown and Neville), Fabio will struggle to do so at left back. After a season like this, it's clear we need to do something with him to make sure his progress doesn't come to a halt and a game here and there will not suffice. It's a right move, if we can get him the right loan deal.

Not sure what we're going to do about left back backup. Evans has done so well at center, I can't see us looking at him as left back backup as well. If we sign a lad like Clyne who can do that role, that's OK. But I can't see us signing a seasoned left back as when Fabio will get back his route might be blocked anyway.

Hopefully we have wrapped up the Clyne signing. Wouldn't make much sense releasing that statement if we haven't got a replacement in the bag.

Brilliant, the lad needs pitch time otherwise we're going to stall his development. I guess when Vidic is back then Evans will end up as LB cover next season

I don't get this. Why send fabio on loan when he could get the minutes that a new fullback(if we buy) would get.

Because Evra is superhuman, our captain and plays virtually all the games in a season. Fabio will be very limited next season if he plays. Sending him on loan allows him to play regular football which in my opinion will greatly aid his development and provide him with a greater sense of confidence. Look how well it worked for Welbeck and Cleverley

To benfica as part of the gaitan deal. Who is their current left back..?

(this is not fact and there is no source, purely based on there being speculation that players would be part of the gaitan deal and that Fabio speaks Portuguese.)

Fabio needs the games to develop as has been previously stated, we will probably send him out till Xmas first of all, with a view to the full season. However, I'm sure we'll have a recall clause in the deal in case of a long term injury to Evra.

Rafael got lucky in being the only specialist RB available when he first arrived, with Neville's ability dented on his return from injury. We'd had cover from central defenders who can play the role, and whilst both Brown and O'Shea did wonderful jobs, they were not full backs. Fabio needs a run of games, and to be injury free. I've no doubt that he'll be our left back for many a year, but perhaps next year is the best spent playing at another club, rather than sitting on the bench here and playing the odd game. Fergie obviously expects Evra to play most games again.

good for him if he can stay fit and get run of games under his belt next season.

i want him back at OT after next season. do not want to see the twins splitting.

Yh I think some regular football will be good for him, he's got plenty of talent. We need some back up though, I think part of evra's poor form at times is that he has to play so many games and especially for us where we get most our width from him on the left.

Why not just play him more often as we did with Rafael a few years ago. Fergie trusted him to start the CL final so why not give him more PL games?

Some part of me is thinking that we'll not bring anyone when we're loaning out Fabio, but rather we might give Evans a chance to be backup on leftback, seing as he'll not be starting as many games when Vidic is coming back. It's a chance for Fergie to give gametime to the youngsters we got in defense at the moment, just like he's playing Jones and Smalling at right back this year. When they arent able to get a game in central defense, they'll be given a chance as fullbacks.

I think it's a great move. Looks pretty certain we'll be signing Clyne then...

The prospect of Evra playing another 50 games next years is worrying...
