So was this all about getting a bit more of Mansour's money for himself in wages? Seems a cnutish way to do it.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

I had a feeling he would still end up leaving. You don't turn down a chance to play in the UCL. Most players don't ever get the opportunity.

Lol to those that praised him.

Rumor going around that Villa promised Delph that Benteke wouldn't be sold, which is stupid in itself because all it took was for a club to activate the release clause.

Guess they never thought anyone would pay up the 32.5m

What a fecking idiot. If he'd just kept quiet this transfer would pass most people by, it's not like he'll be anything more than a squad player, but no he had to pat himself on the back for his wonderful loyalty to Villa.

I'd be fuming if this was a Utd player doing it.

Don't really know what to think of the deal. I was never overly fussed either way, for £8m he was a good English player, but at the same time while I think he will get a decent amount of gametime given the age of Toure and Fernandinho and Fernando's general averageness he's unlikely to be the difference between us winning silverware and finishing the season empty handed. Will be interesting to hear what the reason is for his change of mind for a second time. It's not good though, he's fecked off City and then Villa in spectacular fashion.

Poor way to handle this.

A good squad player for City, and I think he gets a lot of unreasonable stick regarding his national team performances. He'll get more games than the likes of Rodwell and Sinclair did, certainly, however it's yet another City signing that isn't remotely threatening. They've had too many of them over the years.

Delph has no plans to join up with Villa’s pre-season tour in Portugal as his wife Natalie is expecting their second child.

The Bradford-born midfielder, 25, completed a medical on Friday and will fly to Australia over the weekend to join his new team-mates for pre-season training.

Yikes. The reception he'll get on returning to Villa Park will be something.

I dont get the hate for Delph..
It was all a bit dramatic, but it looks like he considered staying but saw that Villa are going nowhere and decided moving would be better for him..

If he hadn't made that statement a few days ago, Villa fans would probably be a bit pissed he's going but sort of understand it. With him making that statement, leaving a few days later and joining City in Australia despite saying he wasn't going on Villa's preseason tour because of his wife... he'll be public enemy #1 at Villa for the foreseeable.

£8m on Delph to rotate beats spending £30m on Barkley to rotate. This is a solid signing. As it stands he's probably a starter!

Fernandinho is still considerably better. He'll get chances though, especially if switch to 3 in midfield which is a possibility seen as Pellegrini ended the season with just Aguero up front and it served us well.

That's a misquote, where it says "football opportunity" it should say "piles of cash".
