Fair play to him for not following the money but I actually think he would have played. He's better than Fernando and Fernandinho has looked half decent but not consistent.

I think its more to do with wanting to stay at Villa - which is nice to see I suppose.

Yeah I think he'd play too. Would be a signing similar to Barry. He may end up being a regular for a season or two but they will always be looking to upgrade on him eventually.

Probably, but if these suggested rules of having English players come in and are enforced he might get a good stint. Plus he'll also have made loads of extra cash and would still get a move to another hlaf decnet club.

There'$ nowt so qu€€r as £olk.

Too true, although you'd assume he'd already have been aware what he could be earning when he said what he said last week. Perhaps he's just not very bright.

Perhaps I'm being unfair to him, but my guess is that last week the offer was X p/w. Having had that rejected City have basically figured out that they can buy a homegrown player for £8m who's as good, or close to some of their other options and bunging another £1m a year on his contract, or whatever it is, doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to them.

We don't need him, but how amusing would it be if he were having a medical for United?

If not already said, I expect excuse on the line of, "I wanted to stay but after Benteke's departure news came in, I grew disillusioned with club's ambitions and decided to join a club which competes for trophies. It was never about money."

Pretty sure every midfielder they have is black and bald.

Villa fans seem to think its a photoshopped image of Sterling going for his medial (pretty much identical outfit apart from different colour jeans), but with BBC journalists now confirming it to be true... Expecting an epic meltdown.

I can't resist posting his quotes again:
He said: "I'm aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight.

"I'm not leaving. I'm staying at the football club and I can't wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club."

and Agbonlahor said: "Like any Villa fan you are going to be over the moon to keep your best players. A lot of players have left over the last 10 years and for him to stay shows his commitment to the club and how much he loves playing for the club, so credit to him.''

Deary me, the Villa fans will go fecking ballistic.

Because Villa have such grandiose ambitions.....

Pillock move by him which will end his international career- don't he see he is only there to make up a quota?

Not that he is any good- typical looks fairly easy on the eye in terms of play now and again player but if you watch him for a whole game you realise that he ain't very good (like most of the English national team).

So daft to go public with his stance before being sure of it himself.

Surprised hes doing it the year of the Euros. You would think for Villa he will play every game, an d Hodgson likes him.

Unless he knows Hodgson will pick him regardless (like hes done with Townsend and others).

Is he trying to Out Bellend Deandre Jordan? he's going to look like a complete tool.

As someone mentioned i think it has to do with benteke leaving. there's no guarantee of premier league survival without him.

Must say, the latest turn seems a bit ridiculous. Just a week after pledging his loyalty, apparently a few extra pounds has swayed his mind. Sad really, but not exactly unprecedented.

I think it probably has more to do with the fact that they are selling their best player.

He knew he had a release clause and it was likely that Liverpool would pay it.

Why would Delph even say such stupid things. Is he any good?

Benteke was always leaving this summer really, if Delph uses that as an excuse, then it's a poor one. He deserves all the abuse he'll inevitably get. I wonder if all the booing at City games will affect their players?
