FA Youth Cup

Lawrence about to come on, I would have liked it to happen a bit earlier, but better late then never. If I have one criticism of McGuiness its that he is very reluctant to make substitutions in big games.

The 2 obvious people to change for him were playing very well second half though (Van Velzen and Lingard).

This 2nd-half performance is surprising since our midfield is apparently too slow and doesn't really work.

3-2 Full Time

A fit Keane with Morrison and Cole supporting him is good enough to beat anyone at this level. Great commitment right to the end from United. Im pretty sure Chelsea's away record in terms of goals conceded is v poor....

3-2 full time. United will feel a little unfortunate to be playing with a 1 goal deficit after an excellent second half. They showed great charachter to come back from a 2-0 deficit away from home and Pogba in particular was exceptional in the second half.

2-2 would have been a fairer result. They hardly threatened in the second half at all

3-2 it finishes. On the balance of play I'd say we were unlucky, but I'd be pretty confident we can turn them over in the second leg. With Blackett and particularly Morrison coming back and with W. Keane being more match sharp we should have a great chance. McGinty was quite good though, Blackett might not be guarenteed his place back.

Top second half there, unlucky not to be level overall, even have a case to be leading.

Old Trafford, Morrison back, good position.

Won 3, drawn 2, lost 7, scored 16, conceded 22.

Felt that scoreline didn't really do us justice but hey can't complain when you come back from 2-0.

You kinda feel this is set up for the Pogba/Morrison show at Old Trafford:D

It was a great game and most people know not to write united off. Pogbas better in an advanced position. Tunnicliffe can do box to box but his driving runs from deep were great and he's a quick lad too. I think cole was impressive throughout. His ball retentions very good and him and Linguard have made strides this season with their goals return. We can be confident in the return leg

Well, it didn't work and was too slow at the time I said that. Of course the top red police can't pass the opportunity to score cheap points.

Anyway, Imo it was down to chelsea's very high tempo and workrate in the first half, which they couldn't keep up and we were the fresher team in the second half.

Pogba's very good but chasing down opponents isn't his strongest side. I thought defensively he didn't work well enough.

If you've watched united, you'll know never to write them off - even at this level of football. We were away from home and actually chelsea basically got two from set pieces. Pogba isn't really a defensive midfielder. We get more defensive work from Tunnicliffe who was immense second half. When we got more support to Keane, we caused them problems and in the second leg with Morrison returning (maybe behind keane) we'll have a great chance

Just got back, was a great game to watch.
Made a ton of noise reeling off song after song. Stewards and police came over to try get us to sit down/relax but realised it was futile!

Pogba was brill, there was a moment in the 2nd half where he was in the box had the ball started showing the footwork and I thought he was about to score another like that City goal but he shut out.

Good performance overall, will definitely get at them at OT

The united fans were brilliant. It really came across on MUTV too.

I don't see as much of the U18s as I do the reserves because of the timings of the games, but I was very impressed with them today. Tunnicliffe seemed to get pissed off and then took the game on with his surging runs and Pogba really imposed himself in the 2nd half. Lingard and W.Keane were also impressive.

I was at the game. Pogba was our best player by a distance, with some good runs and intelligent interplay, as well as the goal of course. He looks a terrific player, both physically and technically outstanding. McEachran was impressive, as was Chabolah in defence, who looked an excellent aerial threat and a very capable centre half.

My stream died about 10 mins into the second half, but by sound of that it seems as though he did exactly what he did at Anfield when the game threatened to slip away from us. The kind of midfielder we lack at first team level.

How was Dæhli's cameo?

He was at the same level throughout the match I thought, the others just caught up in the second half, Pogba in particular. Tunnicliffe was still sprinting into the 94th minute trying to set up attacks though, I think he may possess four lungs.

Daehli looked tidy and tricksy, like always, looking forward to seeing more of him.

how old is pogba now, is he ready to make the step up yet?

Turned 18 less than a month ago. Hard to judge whether he's ready before seeing him in action for the first team, certainly has something special about him though. Would definitely like to see him given a fair few chances next season (and a few others from this side).

We have some real midfield attacking talent coming through in Petrucci, Morrison, Pogba, Tunnicliffe and others, as well as Cleverley. Can someone with a better memory than me remind me how Gibson started to make his way into the first team? I'm trying to understand the process which Fergie might follow for a few of these youngsters.

I may be overestimating some of the young players at times (I know Petrucci has been out injured for ages) but it seems we have space in our midfield and players chomping at the bit to stake their claim. It's increadibly exciting and I worry that signing established names could restrict the chances of one or more of these guys making it here. At the same time, I've watched reserve games for years when I've followed players who I thought'd be huge for us just fizzle out, like David Jones. Who has the extra bit about them that can see them reach a level so many fall short of?

Just finished watching this. Fantastic game of football. We were brilliant in the second half.

Pogba is so skilful it's unreal but needs to learn to cut down the flicks and tricks a bit. He has a tendency to be over-elaborate. Cracking header though and almost scored another screamer. Tunnicliffe's drive and desire is such a great thing to have in any team. He's so quick, powerful and direct.

Was always - as usual - very impressed by Thorpe. Jess Lingard is a plucky little fecker too. Will Keane was class on the ball. A really talented young team, all in all. Can't wait for the second leg. Add Morrison to the mix and I fancy us to put them to the sword.

Gibson was always a special case because he clearly had talent from a very young age - he was fast tracked into the reserves at 16/17 - but his attitude was often called into question. He spent a long time in various loan spells and playing in the reserves and osmething with his attitude seemed to click when hie hit 22/23 - he suddenly looked a lot less bulky and more involved, particularly in reserves games, and all of a sudden fergie started picking him for the first team.
