FA Cup 25 - United progress

Drew the short straw draw there but Arsenal away would be a great tie to win and if end up losing it will somewhat free up the fixture congestion. No surprise to see lucky Liverpool get Accrington Stanley at home and then Chelsea,Man City at home to Morecambe, Salford.

IF we can only get a result in one of the games against Arsenal which are you taking?
I think the league game would be better to win for United. It would give you hope to get back into Top 4 contention. The cup game will be between Brighton away and Spurs at home so Arteta will probably rotate the squad.

Result in the cup is high risk, high reward.

I'd prefer a result in the league since that's the long game, but it's a tough question! Hoping for a result in both, but given the timing of each match, I think a result in the cup is more likely if we only get a result in one of the two, since we'll have more games and training to adapt to the new system, and Amorim would have a better idea of his settled starting XI.

Always the knockout cup game for me.

Unless you're in a tough battle for top spot and can't afford any dropped points (which we're obviously not), then losing a tough away game in the league doesn't overly hinder the season's aim - you can still fully achieve top four while losing away to the likes of Arsenal.

But lose one knockout cup game and that's our participation (any my interest) in the competition over for the season.

It would also be particularly disappointing to end our defense of the trophy after just the one match.

Fond memories of Arsenal away in the cup. One of my favourite games I've been to in recent years. 9,000 Reds in the away end on a Friday night, new manager bounce, Lukaku at RW, counter attacks galore. A similar performance and result would be ideal. Looking forward to it!

Should have announced EtH as ManUtd manager just before cup draws and then sack him. Would have played some non league team.

3rd round draws for Man United the last ten years.

2024 - Wigan (A)
2023 - Everton (H)
2022 - Aston Villa (H)
2021 - Watford (H)
2020 - Wolves (A)
2019 - Reading (H)
2018 - Derby (H)
2017 - Reading (H)
2016 - Sheffield United (H)
2015 - Yeovil (A)

Last 3rd round exit was 2014 at home to Swansea under David Moyes.

Just once United under Ferguson lost a FA Cup 3rd round tie (2010 v Leeds)

I really don't mind both the league cup and the FA cup draws. I feel there is no hurry to win another mickey mouse cup for a couple of seasons as we won one each in the last two seasons. It is more important that we use this season to grill Amo's system into the squad and start playing with a clear identity that is sustainable in the long term. A win against Spurs or Arsenal or both would be nice but its no biggie even we bow out of both. Our squad is too fragile with a few injury prone players to last an entire season fighting on 3 or 4 fronts.

Two competitions (the league and Europa) is ideal for this season given the state of the squad. I rather we focus on doing as good as we can in the league and try to win the Europa league. A top 4/5 finish with the Europa trophy would be far more satisfactory and better for our prospects in the transfer window and the next season. With no CL teams dropping down, Europa is a challenge with far bigger rewards than the two domestic cups. Playing to our potential I don't see a team that is better than us in the 36 that are still there in the competition.

1. Football with a clear style and identity
2. Europa trophy
3. A top 5 league finish

Should be our priorities for this season, in that order.

City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs all get non-league clubs... even bloody Leeds got the local under-12 dance school

Wash your mouth out! The FA Cup is class. By all means have a pop at the Carabou Cup but let's not conflate the two domestic cups.

We won the Fa Cup last season so it's not like it's a priority though we should be in for trophies always, of course. Only Liverpool away would've been worse draw but it is what it is..

It is still one of the smaller cups compared to the league and the champions league. I would like to win us win it again soon as it'll be cool to top the charts in the two best English football competitions. However, our squad is fragile and can no way cope competing on three or four fronts. Already Shaw is out injured again and we don't have a LCB to play the game against Arsenal. There are others in the squad who are also very injury prone and can't stay fit playing one game a week, forget starting twice in a week for the next six months.

I don't want us to lose to Arsenal, but it won't be the end of the world if we did. Europa this season is a far more important trophy to win for our long terms prospects.
