F1 2019 season

Ignoring Santi messed this thread up as well as he made it.

Mercedes the team to beat again this year. I just hope Bottas can put up a season long challenge

Yeah. Lewis is definitely the better driver of the two. He's ruthless.

I'm a Ferrari fan and I have just been disappointed with Vettel (and Ferrari strategists) over and over. Even last year you can see Vettel just didn't have enough in him to push on.

If Leclerc continues his form, Ferrari have a big decision to make. Vettel won't settle for number 2 though. Maybe its still too early to think about this...
There's never been a rivalry between the two. It's only fans that have been desperate to see a battle of two champions. Its literally the lamest most one sided rivalry of the sport. Everytime they get close together vettel finds a way to mess up. Rosberg/Hamilton was a proper rivalry.

I find it hard to envisage vettel leaving Ferrari simply because I can't see any better options
Would be no2 to Lewis at Merc... And I doubt Lewis would want that either
Couldn't see red bull taking him back as they seem to be building around max
McLaren and Renault not competitive enough and we'll the rest are not a realistic option at all... I believe he has at least 2 years on his contract and I can't envisage anything other than he sees them out at ferrari

Lewis does react better to in team competition. Always those rumours Lewis might call it quits focus on music and fashion. Maybe he does that's the only way Seb would join Merc imo.

Fantastic race. Action all the way through and talking points everywhere you look, this is why we love f1.

Proper Modern racing tracks like this just create much better faces for f1. They need to be brave and stop going to street circuits as it makes a poor race every time.

I knew Leclerc was going to be fantastic every since I saw him in gp2, so pleased his talent has translated to the big league. Vettel is going to have a real hard problem keeping him behind this year.

so pleased for mclaren, things finally seem to be getting better again. Sainz was all over verstappen into the coming together, and Norris put in a great race with a stellar defence of raikkonen. Shame we didn’t get to see much of their battle as he held him off for 8+ laps.

With the mid pack catching up it’s making everything much more competitive which is great for the championship.

Let’s hope the rest of the championship follows suit.

Forgot to really say how night and day this was from the opener, great race with some brilliant overtaking from top to bottom of the grid. If we could get these kinds of races say 70% of the time we wouldn’t even moan about the crap novelty races like Monaco, they would go back to being revered as one off events and enjoyed for what they are.

I’m optimistic about the season now, it’s clear the top 2 are close in race trim and it will go back and forth. Red Bull will get there too eventually I think.

Aww man.

I used to love F1, but it's so boring these days. I never really have a preference to driver or car, however santi does make it so funny and always makes me root for Hamilton

Shame he plays up to it these days and crosses the line, he needs to reign the prickish comments in when he comes back. Raging (real or fake) is one thing, wishing drivers hit walls is another.

I'm so incredibly tired of watching bad things happening to Ferrari.. It's like Murphy's law on steroids. The one positive thing is that Leclerc is the real deal, he has clearly shown that he's faster than Vettel over the two races so far and considering Vettel has made it a habit to crap his pants over the last year then I can't see Ferrari keeping him as Nr.1 for very long.

Amazing race from an objective point of view though, it's fantastic to see some actual racing for pretty much every position again.

They are not catching up. Newey dropped the ball with RB15. The moment Red Bull resolve their car issues they will be one second clear in qualy and lapping almost everyone behind them in race.

Before you say I'm wrong - Gasly was 0.2 qiucker in qualy last year in a Toro Rosso with the Honda engine that is probably 40 HP down on power compared to the Red Bull car he is driving today.

Couldn't watch this one. Just caught the highlights. Oh Ferrari, why do you always do this to us.. somehow, someway they always find a way to feck it up.

You really gotta feel for young Charles! At least he got a podium :(

He lost his power somehow but his engineer didnt have answer for that. Told to stay out and preserve as much as he can. Lucky that SC came to rescue at the end.
Engineers aren't allowed to tell the drivers how to fix it, even if they can. Sometimes an engine reboot can fix it but it's classed as interfering (using combos on the driving unit). For me, either don't have the fix in place as it's pointless as drivers should be drivers, or put in AI drivers.

No they dont i know but Leclerc asked for the cause not how to solve it which they didnt know the answer for it. Telling the cause and how to fix it is a separate thing no? Or they they classed it as the same?

Fantastic race, several highlights & many talking points.

LeClerc - what a mature weekend from the young guy. Showed up a vastly more experienced team mate, kept a cool head when things went a bit wrong at the start and desperately unlucky not to win the race in the end, but glad he got on the podium.

Ferrari - seems like they’ve built a fragile rocket. No point in it being the fastest if it’s going to be as temperamental as we’ve seen in the first two races. Hope they get on top of this before the Mercs run away with it.

Red Bull - what’s going on? They really don’t seem to be able to get the tyres switched on for any decent amount of time. Really unusual for them & Gasly is really struggling with it.

Midfield battles - great stuff here. McLaren look like they’ve finally built a fairly competitive car, Norris looks the real deal & Sainz was unlucky. The Renault failures were bizarre. I hope they sort their reliability out as the fight between McLaren, Renault, Haas & the Alpha’s looks like it could go on all season & keep it interesting.

A lot of people saying Hamilton was ‘lucky’ to win the race. He was in a way, but he also stuck closely to the faster Ferraris to put enough pressure on them and eventually bullied Seb into a mistake in what was the defining pass of the race. He was also 35 seconds up the road at one point from a rejuvenated Bottas which was fairly impressive.

Got a feeling it’s going to be a good season :D:D:cool:

I heard someone mention the turbo, but not sure. Did look like the ERS/battery had failed, but don’t know how much the turbo feeds into that system though.

It was the energy recovery system that was taking heat from the turbo and turning it into battery charge. Not something that could be rebooted from the dash.

Nope. All Cars lost downforce as the front and rear wings have been redesigned. They’re just about matching the times from last year.

If you really think red bull will be that far ahead then you’re very naive. mclaren/Renault/haas are clearly faster this year, that’s what I meant by catching up.

Ross Brawn to the rescue.

If rumours are to be believed, the reason Ross Brawn left was because he was upset about Schumacher virtually being forced to retire, due in part to some inferiority complex that luca di montezemolo had over the team where Todt, Schumacher and Brawn were seen as kings. Luca wanted more control over his play thing where as Todt wanted him to stay away because he felt he would be nothing but a distraction, hence the reason Todt got sacked a year after Michael retired.

Ferrari reporting a cylinder failure this morning...

Really entertaining race, particularly early on. Shame Leclerc couldn't get a win, but will be interesting to watch how he progresses against Vettel as the season goes on.

Will be interesting to see what comes out from Renault in relation to their failures. They were looking ok pace wise, even if they did stuff the strategy with Riccardo, and then both going out with failures on the same lap and corner.

Vettel is the Higuain of F1 and Ferrari are Spurs.

Eh? Spuds have won feck all. Ferrari are the most successful team in F1 and arguably had the GOAT driver.

If anything.. we're a Liverpool in the making :(

Now they are. Keep bottling.

I used to love F1, but it's so boring these days.

Last year was very good.

Bahrain this year was one of the best races I can remember.

It was fairly dull during the first years of the hybrid era due to Mercedes being so far ahead but right now it certainly isn't.

That is all

Right now Leclerc is superoir than Mick. He needs to be superior in F2 first.

I dont anticipate Mick being in the Ferrari team for a few years. He will have a properly structured development rather than being thrown in the deep end like Verstappen etc. I wouldnt be surprised if he becomes a late bloomer around 25/26, but the speed is there. Once he kicked on towards the end of the European f3 season last year, he was winning like his oldman.

I kind of get the impression he's mentally strong as well. Imagine Michael being your old man and then having what happened to him when you're 14/15 years old. Dealing with that while trying to start a career for yourself in the same sport that your oldman was arguably the greatest of all time. Doors will open because of who he is, but he's not being backed by Dad or having him standing over teams and directing him to get the best equipment. I hope for that reason he makes it.

One of the great quote i heard once. "You know why Ferrari was so dominant under Schumacher and co? because the italians weren't running the team."

:lol::lol: long may their bad luck and misfortune continue. (Speaking as a Hamilton fan).

I can see LeClerc causing Vettel all sorts of problems with in the team.

If your car looks so good and very fast like Ferrari this season it can happen it is fragile as well. We just need to find the right balance.
