F1 2016 Season with Fantasy League see Threadmark

Sky Sports has extended its partnership with Formula 1 to remain the home of F1 in the UK and Ireland until 2024.
  • Free to air: The FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX, together with highlights of all other races and qualifying sessions, will be shown on a 'free-to-air' basis.
  • Sky Sports Mix: Additionally, at least two other 'prime time' live races a season will be offered on the soon-to-be-launched Sky Sports Mix channel along with other F1 content.
  • UHD: For the first time every race starting with the 2017 championship will be shown in the stunning picture quality of Ultra High Definition via Sky Q, the next-generation home entertainment system.

The brand spanking new super amazing Sky Q will give us 4K Formula 1 then..... From 2017 :wenger:

Not a huge surprise really, guessing that's what prompted the GPDA statement earlier... Hopefully "Crofty" will have been replaced by 2019 or I'm going to have to watch my illegal stream with no commentary.

Top of the sky sports page as if anyone is delighted with it. Skys in-race coverage is very good but that's because of Martin Brundle and we had him free for years

Why would they do that? The popularity is already on the decline.

Sky Q actually works out cheaper and month for me but for the equipment and set up they want £250
Ha, I'd tell them to feck right off.

We currently pay only £25pm for the full Sky package but that runs out in July, think we'll have to cancel and re-up under the missus name at that point to get it at £30. Sky Q can do one, I'm not paying full price.

I did , I want the equipment for free.
Good man, I'd imagine you'll get a call from them in a week or so offering you at least a massively reduced rate.

They must realise they'll soon be at the point where they're trying to sell ice to Eskimos, traditional TV subscription services can't carry on competing against online content in their current form.

Yep, people will be outraged by this but by 2019 I doubt it'll matter. The BBC that do a lot of great coverage online the others just don't come close. Interesting the in this driver letter the move towards pay TV was one of the main topics. The F1 audience has dropped significantly, obviously in terms of lack of entertainment but the move to pay tv around Europe.

Bernie is worse than Janice in accounting though, he don't give a feck!

This comes on the day when one of the disputed points in the GPDA letter was:
  • the move towards pay TV, which is at the centre of declining audiences

Saw this earlier and made me laugh...

Yesterday the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association wrote an open letter to F1 bosses pleading with them to avoid poor commericial decsions that will damage the sport. Hours later Sky announced an exclusive rights deal in the UK, ending free-to-air F1 from 2019.

Now the reverse psychology wing of the GPDA has issused another letter, this time begging those in charge of the sport to ‘please continue with short term greed until there are literally no fecking fans left’.

The letter also urges F1 bosses to ‘introduce lots of extremely contrived rules that do nothing to improve the sport but look utterly desperate and completely ignore the basic problem of how sodding boring it is’.

The signatories of the letter also say they want to ‘encourage new tracks and new ideas, but these must NOT prioritise interesting racing above the vital cause of making cadaverous old shits even richer’.

Finally, the letter implores F1’s governors to ‘actively shun social media and other technologies because if you just ignore things they always go away and definitely don’t make an entire sport look like an outdated old farts’ club that won’t be happy until literally everyone who was once interested in F1 has given up or died’.

Interestingly, the strongly-worded letter strenuously avoids naming individuals, although it does make several mysterious references to a ‘spiteful, greedy microtwat’.

In other news, Grand Prix Drivers’ Association directors Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel and Alex Wurz have written an open letter asking why the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association still has Alex Wurz as a director.

And after deciding to return to the old qualifying system for Bahrain, and then talking about a hybrid version (running Q1 and Q2 with the new system and the old Q3), now they're going to run the entire new qualifying system again in Bahrain and think about it afterwards.

Jokers.

I actually think that may work , Q1 was pretty decent in Australia ,Q2 was OK

True, but Q3 wasn't and probably won't be, so why ruin another qualifying session with it.

Anyhow, the problem is that they keep changing their minds. First they bring in a half baked idea. After it falls flat, they cancel it. Then they bring it back, even though they will probably still change it after Bahrain. It's not how a multi million dollar sports should be run.

I actually think the qualifying system could be good if the drivers weren't forced to conserve tyres for the race. That way the drivers would have incentive to give it a go to in order to beat the elimination without having to worry about using up a set of tyres.

I think run Q1 and Q2 the new way or maybe just combine it into one session and then Q3 the old way that we know works and you get the excitement.
I do agree with need to stop fecking about with it.

Right Lads, I am going to leave this up to you.
Still cant get on http://www.fantasy-f1-league.com/ and it is annoying me , emailed him and no reply.

I have found another one, that is free and looks pretty decent, more involved and more choices to make.

I have set a new league up on there or we wait to see if our other one comes back.
Have a look and see what you think.

How does FI Fantasy work? I would like to join this year if a new league is being set up now. @pauldyson1uk
Pretty easy really on the one we cant get on , you have a set amount of money to pick drivers , engines, chassis and aero packs.
You can either pick and leave it for the season or chop and change after each race
The other I did in case the first one goes tits up , you pick top 10 , pole , fastest lap and most places gained.
This you do for every race.

well our first one is now back, I will leave it in your hands which one we use.
This is the standings after the first race.

Has everyone revealed their teams yet?

Also is this one of those ones where you can make transfers or are we set for the season?

I didn't look at the rules once ha.
