Ezequiel Cirigliano

No idea who this guy is but along with Dembele, probably our most realistic cm transfer target

Maradona, Roberto Carlos, Nobby Stiles, Garrincha, Lionel Messi, Romário, Puskás, Makélélé, Iniesta, Xavi are all under 5'8.

Why people still try to highlight a lack of height as being significant, especially in the Espana era that we are living in, is frankly bemusing.

So is there any depth to this link or just more bullshit? Also what would his work permit situation be if we were to go after him?

It'd be a fairy random one to make up, so on that basis, I've decided that we are definitely signing him and Caftards will weep with joy.

The first midfielder that we've properly been linked with and there's only 2 pages? I'm starting to think caftards don't really want a CM...

Manchester United's pursuit of Lucas Moura has been the talk of Old Trafford this summer, but the Brazilian isn't the only player in South America who's attracting Fergie's attention. Brilliant River Plate midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano is rumoured to be a target for United, so talkSPORT's Transfer Spotlight dug out some information on the Argentinean...

Name: Adrian Ezequiel Cirigliano
Date of birth: 24 January 1992
Birthplace: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Position: Midfielder
Club: River Plate
International appearances: 11 appearances for Argentina U20
Honours: Argentinian Second Division (2011/12)

What's the latest?

Cirigliano's positional sense and tough mentality make him a natural choice for the defensive midfield role and his performances for River have led to comparisons with countryman Javier Mascherano. That's high praise indeed in Argentina, where the former Liverpool man is considered the definitive midfield hard-man. Cirigliano's passing ability is arguably more impressive than Mascherano's, however, and he has shown excellent vision with a love of playing between the lines. It's thought that £4m could be enough for United to convince River to sell and if he can adapt to the Premier League and produce his best form, it could be a bargain for the Red Devils.

Did you know?

1) Cirigliano is a product of River Plate's youth system and is considered a classic number five in the River Plate mould. A defensive midfielder capable of shackling the opposition, but equally confident spraying the ball around the pitch with the ability of a deep-lying playmaker.

2) The midfielder made his River first team debut at the age of 18 in 2010, but initially found it difficult to gain consistent game time within an over-crowded squad.

3) Despite being only 20 years old, Cirigliano had worked his way into a starting position at Rive Plate by the time the 2011/12 season came around, and is now considered a stalwart of their first team.

4) The youngster has acquired a host of nicknames at River, ranging from 'Eze', Ciri' and 'El Chili' to 'the mini-Xavi'. Those should all come in handy if he moves to United, considering the difficulty in pronouncing his name!

5) Interest in Cirigliano has peaked recently following his role in River's promotion to the first division in the 2011/12 season. The midfielder managed 27 games in the league and it is expected that he will make the Argentina senior squad in the future.

They say

“Cirigliano is the best player in the league, a brilliant player that will give us plenty to talk about. He has a little of everything, the quality to thread a ball through to wherever he wants, and the ability to make the team play. He also has Javier Mascherano's capacity to recover the ball and run a game.” Former River Plate player Alejandro Dominguez

That sounds very promising. Would be a bit of a no risk move for us really, at that price. The midfield Hernandez.

That Marcos is a bit useless isn't he. A new Argie player emerges and he's no where to be found. :)

I'm intrigued to know how you pronounce Nhlanhla? I know how to by the way...

I'm intrigued as well and don't know how to. Is it kneelah-kneelah, nyehlah-nyehlah, gnulah-gnulah?

(I'm no good at phonetics but I guess you get my point)

Well if this is all true we seem to be trying to nickel and dime teams again. Why cant we just get fecking transfers done without going thru a bidding drama everytime? 12 million dollars US for god sake he would be worth double that probably after one or two seasons with us.

I would advise against believing in Chori Dominguez. I did that when he was a Valencia player, but he turned out to be shit.
