The path of the righteous man... United eye River Plate's Ezequiel Cirigliano

Young midfielder who has played for Argentina at Under-20 level has also been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester United are chasing River Plate's Argentina Under-20s midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano.

Cirigliano, 20, was wanted on trial by Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain were also keen.

But United are now trying to get a deal done, with Buenos Aires side River wanting £5million-plus for their man.

He looks a bit like Rodwell, anyone seen him play?

Edit* He has a Youtube video.

Yes i've seen him play a bit for argentina youth. Definitely a promising player and i was impressed, but the step up from that level is too vast to ever make a cogent prediction. From what i see i liked, nothing more, nothing less.

What type of midfielder is he? and worth the punt at the quoted £5M?

5 million for definite. He's a deep laying midfielder, fairly physical, but reads the game very well. Very useful on the ball as well.

Do you know much about the role of a number 5 in Argentina? Well that's what he appears to be.

Looks like a proper centre mid from those clips.. Sign him up.

Sounds like he'd make a good young understudy for Carrick.

Is it the role Batista and Redondo played?

Redondo, for me, is the archetypal Argentine number 5. As i said, i've only watched Cirigliano in a limited number of games, so to say I'm anything of an expert on him is entirely disingenuous, but comparisons to are not without foundation. He has the same skillset.

All i will say is what i seen was promising and he's appeared accomplished at the basics of his game,

Sounds very promising and for the price he's being touted at he seems like he'd be worth a try for us, as we really don't have any cover for Carrick or anyone coming through in his mould.

In the video at around 2:36, he's at the touchline and kicks the ball away then falls over. Thing is, he didn't look like a complete twat when he fell over, just kind of stuck his legs in the air for a second and got back up pretty quickly. Not a lot of players can pull that off, on that basis, I say we should go for him.

 Brilliant. Let's sign him because he fell over the right way. I wish you could get you're granda's brother to put in a word for you with Fergie so you could become part of our scouting team.

 Sums up the typical poster on here

i haven't seen or said anything about his qualities, but no one can deny he has a cracking name.

I do have a question....wouldn't the 'italian' origin/pronounciation of his last name start with "chi-" ? In argentina, do they change all the 'chi-' to 'si-' like the youtube commentators did for this lad?

I really like the sound of this guy. And by the sound I mean literally the sound... "Ezequiel Cirigliano".

In Italy it would start with ch-, yes. In S. American Spanish I assume they convert it to Seerilyano... though Argentine Spanish is a somewhat Italian-influenced so maybe not?

He's the United type of signing. So I wont be surprised if the rumors on him are true.

Looks to be composed on the ball, and has a good range of passing, especially his 1st time passes stand out to me.

Interesting to see how it turns out.

If the price is true and we are really interested , then it could turn out to be a good bit of business , well we did pay 7mil for Bebe not that i'm knocking him.

He's a central midfielder, therefore this is a false rumour. No way are we interested.

He can pass the ball, he's cheaper than Bebe, and he's a central mid.
On the flip side, he's Argie :nervous:

Edit: Just saw the video, and though it's youtube, the lad does look handy in a tight spot. Of course the challenges in the prem might be a more physical and he can't ride all of them like he does here.

What exactly is a 'United type of signing'?

On the player, sounds interesting and if there's any truth to it, then it shows SAF has indeed been looking for Carrick-cover. Where's marcos when you need him?

Value ?

He is more like mascherano than Veron or Redondo, nice project, maybe he gives away the ball to often, but he´s got quality.

Probably fellating himself with the head of a dead sheep smeared in pig's blood while uncontrollably dancing to Club Tropicana by Wham...

He's crying because we just beat them in handball twice before the Olympics. He get's very involved in handball.
