Expectations for season 2023/2024

Continue to keep Old Trafford a fortress and improve on away form, Ten Hag’s principles and training implemented on the pitch as we should have more time to do this (not playing every midweek for months on end), top 4 and a decent run in Europe. Blood more youngsters in the league cup.

Can’t see a title challenge just yet sadly, maybe another season before we see that.

1. Win the league with 93 points.

2. Win the Champions League after knocking out Bayern, Barcelona, Real Madrid and City in the process.

3. Win the FA Cup over Liverpool. 8-0 win to return the favour.

4. Scoop the League Cup. Another 8-0 win over Liverpool.

Team lineup

Onana
Cafu
Shaw
Varane
Martinez
Casemiro
Mount
Bruno
Mbappe
Rashford
Garnacho

It would probably take Hojlund immediately being a 20-goal scorer in the league to achieve that and the odds of that are extremely low.
Not necessarily, it would require Hojlund to outperform Ronaldo/Weghorst who scored a total of 1 goal in 15 90s, and for the rest of the forward to step up their game.
Except for Rashford (17 goals) our other forwards scored a total of 20 goals; Martial (6), Sancho (6), Antony (4) and Garnacho (3). There’s obviously a massive room for improvement between them.

With a better ball playing GK that will improve us in possession and also enable us to have higher defensive line and win the ball back in more dangerous areas + an improved nr.8 in Mount (that also provides a g/a threat), I would claim that it's quite likely that at least a few of our forwards can and will improve their outputs.

But yeah, if Hojlund did score 20+ PL goals that would be a massive contribution and way above my expectations to him; my expectation is 10 goals and 5 assists..

United need stability and consistent CL football.

Luckily for everyone Top 4 now becomes Top 5 (correct?)

So I would like United to get Top 5 and to win another trophy.

FA Cup Winners
CL Quarter Finals
Top 5 (better last seasons total league points)

We will finish above Arsenal for sure.
Liverpool you can't tell. Klopp usually has the off season then bang on season.
We will finish above Spurs & Chelsea.

But as usual whoever will finish above City will win it.

So we will see the kind of City and Liverpool team we will have next season by game 6. Then a clear prediction can be made.
Finiah above Arsenal for sure? Based on what? your hatred I assume. They have goals all over the pitch, unlike you and look clear to me and most other observers. I am sure you would have said the same thing the past couple of seasons too, and they are looking stronger to me.

Liverpool will likely come strong next season, I wouldn't bet on them finishing below 3rd at worst. Man Utd 4th at best for me.

I think you should expect 4th, to reach the CL knock out phase and possibly a domestic cup if things go your way like the league cup run this season.

Consolidation. Top 4, another cup and quarters in the champions league. With the ownership stuff lingering on I would really value some stability on the pitch.

This. I think we'll see huge improvement in general play but the overall results need to be similar. Comfortable Top 4, some improvement in play against the top sides, comfortable CL group qualification, another cup run, and development from some group of our younger players.

Expecting a title challenge is stupid, and I don't think we have enough attacking firepower to make a CL run (but it's possible). So a nice stable year with some clear improvement going into next summer where we should (in theory) have a base of a squad to where we can chase the true game changing type players to elevate ourselves back into the elites.

Top 4, good football and no more hammerings.

If we sign a striker who scores at least 15 PL goals, top 3 and in the title chase for much of the season, one of the domestic cups, and at CL quarterfinals. I do think more depth will be required to do this, on top of signing a striker. I like the Mount signing because it means that Bruno can actually sit a game or 2.

If we don't find a striker, we will not finish top 4 and will struggle to stay in the European slots.

I think you're being to conservative.

You're also one of the many people who were blinded by Arsenal form in the first half of last season. They will maintain the form they have had since Arteta been there and the 2nd part of last season.

Hatred?? :D to Arsenal? Nah.
Arsenal last won the League title,
  • Garnacho was not born.
  • Ambromavic was not Chelsea owner.
  • Man City was 16th in the league.
You can't hate or be jealous of such a team. City and Liverpool for sure.

I think lack of cover for Casemiro will hurt us again this season. Also, a proper CF is required. Otherwise we would be lucky to replicate last season's league position.

Hoping for a continuation of the progress EtH has made - we should be playing more progressive football, be more comfortable on the ball, and exercise more control over matches. Being more comfortable on the ball, particularly away from home, would make a huge difference to our season.

Better more dominant football, closest challenger to city and a CL run into the quarters at least

Being better at controlling games. Top 4 is a must. A decent run in Europe and at least another final in either the caraboa or Fa cup. Improvement throughout the season.

It's hard to know how other teams will do so it's about improving points total.

We could finish 2nd with 75 points or 3rd with 80.

I think we should aim to get above 80

I really think Newcastle, Liverpool, Arse, Chelsea and City are all gonna be right at it next season.

It’s not the time for a ‘Glazer Summer window’ imo.

Very similar PL season to last season, out of groups in the CL.

Clearer patterns of play, higher xG. Dominating possession and pressing the opponent into submission. The rest will follow.

80+ points in the league.

70+ goals scored, 40- goals conceded.

At least 1 semi-final domestic cup run.

Beat every CL team that isn't a top seed at home, and at least draw with them away.

Similar result as 2022/23 season. In a way, it means consistency. I don't think we have improved the team as much as Arsenal or even Liverpool.

Anything more is a plus.

If we finish 3rd again it’s fine, as long as there’s an improvement in play and we look more like a top team.

I want us to be in a position next Summer where we’re like okay if we sign X player we have a great chance of the league. A CL run would really help people believe we’re on the way back.
This is it realistically. Most likely the position will be a world class striker. The only issue I have, is that Casemiro is 31 and soon that might be a position that we need to replace. Who knows he could go on another 4 seasons.

Also Varane is a worry. While 30 is not old for a CB, he has been playing at an elite level since he was 18.

So basically I’d like these players to have the world class striker now in the team ( or at the very latest next summer )not in 2-3 years time when some of our current best players need replacing themselves.

Any specific minutes you’d like those goals scored ?

Premier League: Second
FA Cup - Win
Carabao Cup - Win
Champions League - Quarterfinals

Once Onana joins and if Hojlund joins, we'll have made bigger improvements from where we were. Though points wise/standings wise I felt it was a bit deceiving and we were at our extreme positive end that we could have done past season (despite massively underperforming our xG, which is a weird mix). So the improvement should at least make that level of high 70s/low 80s be a realistic level for us. Arsenal massively overperformed their points total as well, and the margins are much tighter the higher you go. Rice will improve them, but with added CL football it is unlikely they do as well in the league. Liverpool for me was a big part down to motivation - they have shown to be up there with City over the past 5 years, the drop off is a fluke season more than anything.

If I had to bet on tiers, I'd say United and Arsenal will have similar seasons, while Liverpool will catapult and be the closest to compete with City, while city is an unknown due to motivation after completing everything. They could well have a down season. Chelsea I'd put with Newcastle as fighting for the last CL spot, but could sneak in if one of the others flop (and no European football for Chelsea could give them a false position in the league where they just go on a run while the others are fatigued).

Top 3
At least 80 points
FA Cup / Carabao Cup
Deoendent on draw, reach CL QF

Play attractive football over the entire course of the season.

I agree with this but I'd add no hammerings. Some of our results were atrocious last year. Top teams dont lose 7-0 on their off days.

As it stands.

Consolidating top 4.
Knockout stages of CL.
Deep cup runs.
More consistent performances.

Atleast a 2nd place finish, i will take 3rd if we are in the title race for most part.
CL Knockouts and atleast 1 deep cup run.
The hammerings have to stop, Eth has his keeper, his defense and midfield. No more getting destroyed in odd games.

1. Finish top 2
2. Make it to quarter finals of CL, at least
3. Improve away form and restrict losses by a max margin of 2 goals
4. Integrate more youth into the squad
5. Play entertaining possession based football

Arsenal won the year Abrahamovich took over.

Van Dijk has regressed and no one seems to want to admit it. I personally feel that's the main reason they have been bad, their defence is gettable.

Hard to know what to expect with ownership issue and no striker, but I hope for one thing in the coming season, which is a significant improvement in Style of Play, I really want to enjoy some tantalizing football where we put teams to the sword.

Expectation: top 3, FA cup, CL quarter final.

Reality?: probably 5th-6th and might go on a decent cup run. I think Liverpool & Chelsea next season will make top 4 a lot harder

It would probably take Hojlund immediately being a 20-goal scorer in the league to achieve that and the odds of that are extremely low.
Not necessarily Højlund being a 20 goal scorer but I think if Rashford can play at current level he could realistically score about 20+ league goals.

We will definitely be better this season because i think with the team having had one season within EtH system and also replacing De Gea(no offence to him) with Onana who i think would be transformative to us in terms of build up and pushing our line higher which would help us control games better and also allows us to play more in the opponents half as EtH have always wanted would then lead to more/better chances created.

Assuming we signed Højlund, he could score 10 league goals and it would be an improvement to our goals scored because i believe Bruno can also get us about 10 - 15 goals including penalties and then there's also Antony, Garnacho,Mount and Sancho who would also contribute. So it's not difficult for us to achieve 80+ goals which could lead to a tittle challenge because as stated by others if we improve our ability to control games and build up play with a high line that is the basis to challenge imo.

Basically this.

I don't expect to challenge for the league this upcoming season, but I do hope that we show enough that I'm then confident we can challenge the following season. That means we improve our general playstyle and become more dominant and controlling, our main signings improve our starting line-up and depth, and hopefully decent runs in all the cups (including CL).
