What is the travelling squad? I hope Maguire, Bruno and Rashford are left at home and putting their feet up for this

    Why?

We also won it in 2017 and it didn't kickstart some massive run of success.

With this season's fixture congestion, it's borderline irresponsible to take this cup seriously.

Let’s not pretend that we’re above winning the League Cup.

Will there be 2000 scousers in the Gwladys Street end tonight or is it just Anfield that does that?

Well that’s a reductive way to look at winning a trophy.

I don’t think most fans will share that view

I hope we really go for this. It’s been 3+ years since we’ve won a trophy in a cup final game (which our players and manager always refer to in non-cup final games) and as fans we’ve haven’t had anything to really celebrate.

As a fan we long for success, short and long term and the EFL is nothing to shy at in our current state. Yeah top 4 and CL qualification is nice but I won’t remember that in 5 years, especially when we get knocked out at the group stages.

With the death of Houllier, I was reminded Liverpool rebuilt their current successes on Europa, FA and EFL. Then of course and the Champions League win scattered in between.

We must get through this match and win the competition otherwise we’re just going to be chasing top 4 and celebrating mediocrity. I believe the same for the Europa Cup too

I hope they aren't. We haven't won a trophy in ages. It's a short trip and with a potential shootout after 90 mins. Bruno and Rashy have to be on the bench ready for 15-20 mins.

I love seeing Mata in the AM role, but when was the last time it actually happened?

As the out and out #10, probably under LVG.

Could argue though that he plays there every appearance, the amount of times he roams inside.

Perfect chance for him to pull the strings tonight if Bruno’s rested, it better not be Lingard.

I'd be delighted if we lifted this trophy, but I really can't see it being a gateway to great things in the PL and CL. Better to focus on the league by resting players who need it and giving fringe/young players the experience they've worked hard for but won't often get in PL matches.

    This is incorrect.

It will be a single-legged SF this year.

Winner of this tie could also play the winner of Brentford vs Newcastle. The draw for the SF is still to be made.

If we win - it will be City away
If we lose - Everton will get Brentford at home :)

Come on, we have a far more experienced squad on the bench. This isn’t the game to throw him in. He may get minutes against Watford

Agreed - Watford look really poor at the moment - if we are going to give youngsters a chance, that is the game

With the death of Houllier, I was reminded Liverpool rebuilt their current successes on Europa, FA and EFL.

No they didn't. Pray tell how some trophies won by M. Houllier in 2000-1 laid any foundation whatsoever for the league title won by H. Klopp in 2018-19, almost 20 years later.

One of the biggest challenges for Ole so far. Can he finally win when we can't afford to go out. In CL we failed with the even bigger pressure.
Hopefully we can carry the Leeds form into tonight.

They won Europa, x1 Champions League (and got through to another final), x2 FACup and x3 EFL, x2/3 Super Cups between 2001-2010

The foundations of modern day Liverpool FC were built on these successes. I can’t be arsed to explain if you cannot see this.

The state of this post doubling down on stupidity

    Can't afford to go out????

If we lose this game I will be mildly disappointed but won't lose any sleep over it. The league Cup won't save his job if we finish lower than 4th will it?

Be nice to win and of course we will try to win it but don't think it's that important at all.

Strange looking side, Christ knows who's playing where

Either Tuanzebe or Bailly right back. Would have really liked this team if not for the Bruno inclusion. He really needs to be rested given our fixture congestion. Hopefully comes off earlier whether we're winning or losing.
