European football next season | United - Europa League, Chelsea - Conference League, wee club in the north-east - feck all!

I can't get into Europa. Usually just start watching around quarters unless there's a big opponent, like Barca last year.
Playing in conference would seem like a punishment rather than reward.

Staying out of Europe next season could prove to be a blessing in disguise, especially if we manage to successfully rebuild the team in order to fight for the top 4 spot.
However, that would mean we lost to City, and somehow I still hold hope that we can win at Wembley.

The only positive I can take from us not playing in Europe is that it provides an opportunity to really trim the squad. We can go to town with selling a dozen or so players to raise funds and reduce the wage bill. I hope we take full advantage and get as close to that full reset as possible

Disaster financially and will be a long season without midweek games to watch.

Newscastle conceded 2 after leading by 3. One more goal for Brentford and United get Europe

Probably for the best. Give us a chance to play less games and focus on getting into the top 4. Playing in the middle of bumfeck nowhere doesn't sound appealing.

More games is always better as a fan. More games = more chances at winning and a longer, more interesting season.

No Europe is a joke and already makes next season extremely unappealing.

The Conference League would've been even more unappealing

Honestly, the chance at getting some easy games and some confidence building and seeing the likes of Amad and Willy getting more games would have been one of the positives of dropping down to the Conference League.

I would have much preferred it to nothing at all. It feels like the season is almost a write off before it begins.

The most we can hope for is CL qualification, which we would have easily gotten if we had sacked Ten Hag in February. It’s just a complete waste of time and resources.

Great news.
Trim the squad, focus on the league, no mid week distractions.
Yes it’s a financial hit but that’s less of a worry now that we have new owner who has committed funds.
Short term pain but will be better for us in the long term.

It's only a write off if Ten Hag stays

Genuinely happy. Obviously would rather get CL but given how many games our players have played in the last 2 years a smaller fixture list is better than the Conference League.

Completely gut the squad knowing we effectively have 38 games next season, and 3 windows to get the players we need, new managers only mandate should be top 4, and allows a reset.

Which is looking increasingly more likely. And if he doesn’t stay, why was CL football not salvaged back in February? We would have easily made it. Spurs and Villa have been underwhelming.

Just United being United again.

Oh no....we've missed out on the Conference League. Well played Newcastle.

It'll be hard watching you play Legia Warsaw on a Thursday night knowing it could have been us, but well deserved......:smirk:

So to confirm, as it stands, no European football. Only way we get European football is Europa League if we beat City?

If we don't win the cup this is a great opportunity to do a proper deadwood clear out.

Yeh I agree with this, looking at the final table and despite how crap we've been, we only finished 8 points behind Villa. Crazy really.

I heard of the no CL clause which makes Erik cheaper to sack. Surely it’ll be even cheaper if he misses Europe altogether?

FFS! Gutted about that.

It's bad enough to miss out on Europe altogether* and hear the crowing of rival fans. Even more annoying to come on here and see even more crowing about it from our fans. :(

No European football next season would be shite. Especially as it was going to be in one of the two tournaments we have a realistic chance of going deep in and maybe even winning.

*Barring the highly unlikely scenario of us beating City next week.

Nah, it's selfish fans who look at their own enjoyment over the benefit of the club.

Take Andy Mitten, I really like him but on his podcast, he's saying how great Conference league would be because of how many new away grounds he would get to go too.

So it's because he's a match going fan, he wants it, when everything points to it being a much better result for the team to avoid the Thursday Sunday grind and focus on the league.

I'm sorry you won't get to tick off Merkur Arena off your list, but well just finish 7th again and get to a semi final in a tiny competition.

Let's be honest, there's no chance we're beating City next weekend.

So, positives and negatives to missing out on Europe. There will be a massive financial hit, but less wear and tear on the squad.

I just can’t agree with that. I want my team with as many chances of winning as possible. Failure should never be celebrated.

It would of been a fitting punishment

There is nothing appealing about the conference league. Better off avoiding it hence needing a smaller squad and losing half the rotten apples in that squad

You also missed out from the negatives "less chance of silverware". I know there's plenty more nowadays adopting the attitude that Wenger used to be slated for - "Top 4 is a sought after trophy" - but for me actually winning one of the 3 domestic or 3 European competitions will always be bigger than the supposed "Top 4 Trophy".

We don't deserve it. Use it as a means to clear the squad and work on fitness.

Agree with this take. Hopefully the squad depth is less of a concern and we invest more in starters rather than an extra CB or whatever.

Winning what? They can win the games in the league. You only feel this way as the team is so crap, you want literally more chances to win because we're a .500 team

Yeah. An Icelandic team and a Faroean team made the groups this season. That's the level of the competition. It would be a complete waste of time and the money is insignificant for United.

It's strange to see teams from the top leagues at all in that competition.
