European football next season | United - Europa League, Chelsea - Conference League, wee club in the north-east - feck all!

Its D Day tomorrow where we should find out whether or not we will be demoted to the Conference League, INEOS have to prove to UEFA that they arnt in control of both Nice and us overwise we cant both be in the Europa at the same time.

It's not going to be a problem, it will be a formality. Many clubs have this issue and get around it easily.

I wouldnt be suprised if they ruled against us in honesty, having us in the Conference League would make that competition a whole lot more financially viable for UEFA.

I doubt highly we will get demoted but would be kinda hilarious for that to happen after all the positivity from winning the fa cup. Be pretty much our luck lately

So, we'll be playing 8 matches, against 8 different clubs, in the league stage. Finishing in the top 8 of the table puts you directly into the knockout round, and 9 through 24 have a playoff over two legs to determine the other 8 clubs for the knockout round.

So a club in the middle of the table would be playing 10 matches just to make it to the knockout phase of the competition. Talk about overkill.

That being said, this competition is likely our best shot at earning a Champions League spot for 25/26 so I hope we prioritize the matches.

I would still say the league is our best shot. Last year was absolutely woeful and we weren’t that far away. We are better than Villa, Newcastle, Spurs etc…. I would be disappointed if we didn’t qualify through the league this season. I think it’s arguably a minimum requirement for Ten Hag this time.
