Europa Semi Finals

Refs can't make up their own rules. It's either a foul or it isn't, a card or it isn't. There's no mitigating circumstances, no discretion based on context.

Refs do give players 2 or 3 chances though. How often do you see a ref tell a player one more foul and he'll be booked after 2 or 3 challenges?

The second foul tonight was definitely a booking. If the ref had have blown for the foul with the first one, told him to watch himself and carry on, no-one would have complained.

Ozil's attacking effort reminds me of Isco's, so much talent yet they never make a run to help the man after making a pass. There it was 4 on 4 but he still couldn't be bothered to make the forward run.

Is this Micheal Oliver in disguise? Now letting the game go like a local derby after the first 10 minutes. Im expecting a late penalty for Arsenal.

@Red Katie you were pretty much spot on with your Liverpool prediction against Roma, not the exact score but they did destroy them. Thoughts on the Arsenal game result?

As an aside, why doesn't the FS1 broadcast have a red card icon next to the score?

And also, thought that was Adam Sandler in an Arsenal hoodie til the mentioned Carzorla.

Refs taking those things into account are the ones getting it wrong. That's the whole point.

Then they're doing it wrong. This guy has done it right.
Probably so but part of the beauty of the game is the nuance and the decisions and non decisions a ref makes. We constantly see refs giving a second or last chance before a booking. How many times does a ref let a game continue whilst a team is attacking or setting up for one last corner or free kick even though the game time and injury is obviously over? Of course I hate it when my team is hurt by these human decisions. Ha!

Can still see Atletico nicking one here, Pratey was good on the counter attack there.

That would be a disaster for Arsenal, they simply can't concede an away goal playing 10 men now.

Under Mourinho, we have defended pretty well when down to 10 men, almost to the point of it not mattering. Simeone's team is similarly well-drilled, expect the game is still on.

How many fouls do these Arsenal players need to make before getting booked? What is this?

Still no yellow card for Arsenal for blatant yellow card offences...very strange isnt it

Partey looks terrific, slotted into RB like he's been playing there his entire life.

Shouldn't be a shock given the two managers but going down to 10 men and how they've coped emphasises how much tactically and mentally stronger Atletico are than Arsenal.

However, without Costa, they are the same side who got shat on by Chelsea and Roma in the CL. Costa is so important for them.

If this game was reffed properly multiple Arsenal players should have been booked.

Instead he came with an agenda and was licking his chops that an Atleti player was stupid enough to make two yellow card offences

come on, i want Arsenal to go out too, but they haven't really made any worthy of a yellow.
