Europa League 2019/20

No excuses, we should be smashing that group. Even if we have to travel to fecking Kazakhstan.

Fingers crossed for either someone totally random we haven't played ever, or some "romantic" type ties :)

I'd hope to avoid PSV & Feyenoord and Celtic & Rangers, played them before in recent years, and obviously we don't want long hauls to the furthest points in Eastern Europe such as Astana.

We have never played either Eintracht Frankfurt or Borussia Monchengladbach though, so I wouldn't mind being grouped with either of them.
Also never played against Malmo or Standard Liege or Slovan Bratislava.

Partizan & Ferencvaros we haven't played since the mid 1960's so there's a bit of nostalgia.

No English speaking forums for them so there won't be any Ask The Oppositions unless we have any Kazakhstani, Serbian or Dutch volunteers to go to their forums and do the translating. Don't think Astana even have a forum.

Draw has been kind to us even if we have to travel 4,000 miles for one game

Hopefully Astana (A) is in December and we have won the group by then

Arsenal have got a great fecking group. Trips to Germany, Belgium and Portugal.

That group is set-up for us to promote a fair amount of youth. That is unquestionably a positive at this moment in time.

Both Alkmaar games should be relatively easy. Partizan and Astana at home too. Partizan away is a bit tricky with their atmosphere. Astana as well, i think they have a synthetic pitch and obviously long travel.

Alkmaar, that's a lot better for travel purposes although their stadium roof did blow off the other day...

Nice. This is like one of those teen movies where the rich kid loses all of his spending money (missing out on CL) and is punished by having to go to the village (long ass trip to Kazakhstan), a dangerous place (the Serbian teams stadium), and a sporting complex that's about to collapse (AZ's roof being blown off).

Don't mean to offend anyone with the metaphors, just found it funny.

Cool that we are playing AZ! Can’t wait :)

We will drop points away to Partizan. Atmosphere wise it should be great but it would be a boring game there. Astana we should smash them home and away. AZ should be tricky but it is always fun to face a dutch side.

Group A: Sevilla, APOEL, Qarabag, Dudelange

Group C: Basel, Krasnodor, Getafe, Trabzonspor
Group D: Sporting CP, PSV, Rosenborg, LASK
Group E: Lazio, Celtic, Rennes, Cluj
Group F: Arsenal, Frankfurt, Standard Liege, Vitoria SC
Group G: Porto, Young Boys, Feyenoord, Rangers
Group H: CSKA Moscow, Ludogorets, Espanyol, Ferencvaros

Group J: Roma, Monchengladbach, Istanbul Basaksehir, Wolfsberg
Group K: Besiktas, Braga, Wolves, Slovan Bratislava
Group L: Man United, Astana, Partizan, AZ Alkmaar

Absolutely disgusting.

Favourable fixtures for the players.

Horrendous fixtures for away fans.

Our team in Astana should be:

Romero
Jones - Rojo - Bailly* - Darmian
Matic - Fred
Young - Mata - Lingard
Grant

* assuming you're allowed to play witch crutches

No need to send any main players.

They do have a quality attack in Alkmaar. Stengs and Boadu are expected to make their first appearance for the Netherlands somewhere this season, both very young, but promising. The rest of the team isn't very familiar to me..

My mate just asked me who we have in the group stage so I shouted back “AZ Alkmaar” and three colleagues jumped under the desk FFS.

Gotta be happy with that group...

Exactly. We should be winning every game in this group.

Key is always to win your home games and you're practically qualified. You should do that. Yes if you get Astana 5th or 6th team you can send the kids out there.

Edit: When you look at europa league history plenty of teams who actually win it or make the final are the ones who drop down from CL after xmas so really it's a bit of an artificial competition up to then.

Guys I'm from Belgrade, can I get a ticket to come with our fans or will I be forced to go with Partizan fans, I'm a Red Star fan since I was born so I'd rather not. Who do I enquire for the tickets on here?

Qualifiers:

A: Sevilla, APOEL
B: Dynamo Kiev, FC Copenhagen
C: FK Krasnodar, Getafe
D: Sporting, PSV
E: Lazio, Rennes
F: Arsenal, Eintracht Frankfurt
G: FC Porto, Feyenoord
H: CSKA Moscow, Espanyol
I: Wolfsburg, St. Etienne
J: AS Roma, Monchengladbach
K; Besiktas, Wolves
L: Man United, FC Astana

Some decent teams, but no reason we shouldn’t have a chance at winning this.

Worth mentioning that we don't tend to do too well away against Dutch sides. Lost to PSV and Feyenoord in recent memory.

Need to wait to see who drops down from CL, remember Atletico Madrid in shock group stage exit and they won europa pretty comfortably in 2018. Sevilla also done it at least once.

Absolutely no excuses not to comfortably qualify from that.

Just get a few members from here to answer some questions about Astana. I'm sure the funny ones like @SteveJ and @Mr Pigeon can whip something up.

There's a ticketing thread at the top of the Newbie forum. Try posting there.

There will be at least one shite, boring, away match that will end in a frustrating draw/defeat and an unnecessary injury.

Partizan are banned for first game so will be played in an empty stadium

Damn. I definitely don’t remember that.
