Europa League 2011/2012

Yes, probably but it is attitudes like this that I hate about football fans.

Over 6 games, we should have been able to qualify from a group consisting of (not the) best team in Portugal, a Swiss team and a shower of shit from Romania.

Nothing is guaranteed and we'll have to work hard to beat anyone left in the competition

Benfica are top of the Portugese league.

OK I can accept that and yes normally I would agree with you.
But looking at the teas that are left , I have not even heard of some of them.

I don't get the attitude bit, nothing wrong with us wanting to win , OK we should not be in this crap comp , but we are and I would like to think we will win it.

If I am being honest , I trying to gee myself up for us playing in it .

And I agree that we SHOULD be in with a chance of winning the competition as we are undoubtedly one of the strongest teams left in it BUT to say we should walk to the Final when walking through CL games is what has got us to where we are is a ridiculous idea.

I bet you hadn't heard of Galeti before we were drawn against them but we still struggled to break them down and they COULD have caused more of an upset against us.

I always want to win but the way you came across sounded more like expecting to win, when we have no right to think like that after some of the performances we've mustered this season so far.

It may be very, very different in Feb and if we continue to improve game after game like we are at present then, yes, we should be one of the favourites, however, it is still going to be hardwork and I am almost certain that we won't avoid City until the Final

No.

Are United the best team in England this year?

That is besides the point, when the group phases were drawn, we were and we were champions. League standing at this time of the year is irrelevant. People expected us to walk that group and we didn't so arguing that we'll walk to the EL Final is ridiculous

We still should though, despite our performances in the group stages of the Champions league. No doubt Fergie won't have the same attitude, or the players. But as fans, I think it's reasonable for us to expect Manchester United to do well in this competition (depending on what team we field of course, if Fergie treats it like the League Cup then it's a different matter).

My point of Benfica being top but not champions and us being champions but not necessarily the best was besides the point, but I just wanted to highlight that being champions previously isn't an indication of the current campaigns progress.

Fair point , but nothing wrong with expecting to win. :)

I guess this is just about different people's difference in opinion and attitude towards games. I have always been one for never, ever expecting to win no matter who the competition is and even if in reality, we should be beating the team. I would always like us to win but I'd never expect it!

I am the opposite , when I watch I always expect us to win.

That must be horrible!!! I can't even fathom that idea>

Surely you're on a downer either way - we win, meh, I expected us to. We lose, even more annoyed that you should be.

I like your confident attitude!!! Think I'm just a shit house!

You are right , sometimes Football piss me off massively , but I always think what is the point of watching if you don't expect to win.
Sometimes my wife hates me after a bad match.

Has the ref in the Celtic game pulled a Graham Poll?

I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but I don't think United are in the worst position in the world here. You were never going to win the CL with your current squad, so now you have a golden opportunity to win a European trophy.

Often in the last few years I've wondered how Arsenal would have fared had we had a disastrous qualifying campaign and gone into the Europa League and won it. What a boost it would have been.

Ajax Vs United - not a bad night for CL lite

When did we last play them?

Yeah but we've lost £20m revenue with which to strengthen our squad.

And you'd have bottled it a la Birmingham LC final

1976 according to a portuguese newspaper.

Porto vs Sporting in Europa would be great, hope Porto can beat City.

I'm happy with the draw we got, nice to play a team with great history who play good football and have a good stadium.
