Europa/Conference or outside?

I prefer the EL and I think that's what we will get. To be honest, I enjoyed our last EL campagins. It will also be a good opportunity for ETH to implement his system and rotate the squad/give young players chances.

The conferce league would be embarassing and we would hear toons of jokes being in there. So the least our disappointing lot can do now is to secure this 5./6. place finish.

Well the only reason not wanting any more games is for not wanting to watch us play shit anymore.

I hope that can change though so give us more games and a chance for a title.

Outside please. And let's focus on the league and new manager tactics training..

Or we get 6th and go win the UEL..

We should play and win the Europa league. The total prize of 35-55m euros is very good and will allow us to invest more in the next summer too.

EL for sure, it would be a nice stepping stone for ETH and if we win it it’ll give confidence to the players which all helps towards progression

I value neither a great deal but the Conference League is something we haven't won before so it would at least be interesting from that perspective.

Europa yes, but I'd rather we finished 8th than play in the Europa Conference League. Every single game would be a painful reminder of failure, and there's no upside - anything other than winning it would be downright embarrassing, and even winning it would primarily remind us we finished 7th. Maybe that's a tad too negative, but that's how it feels. Also, not being in Europe would enable us to get by with less squad depth, and that would free up resources for improving the first XI.

We wouldn't win it this season...

Europa a good place to give fringe players football

our loans this year, Garner aside, seem to be disastrous

It looks as if we will qualify for the EL, but Im not sure if thats a good thing or not. Maybe a season where we can simply concentrate on English football trophies would be more beneficial, but saying that I always want us to challenge for everything we can.

West Ham and Wolves have been working overtime to ensure we get the EL and not the conference, or 8th place.
Both teams have been on very poor losing runs.

Utd also need the revenue from the EL as missing out on a CL spot means we will be losing ££££m’s in revenue from our sponsorship deals, as well as from TV and Uefa income.

True, I suppose the EL is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, and more games gives ETH more opportunity to try players and give them some time. To be honest, for a while I thought we were looking at 8th place!

The more competitions the more opportunities to give young players some first team experience, Ten Hag could use this to evaluate players and ensure that we have the best possible chance of competing on some fronts in the 2023/24 season.

I’d prefer to be in a European competition than not. Even if it meant the conference

Besides we would have to be 8th to miss out completely wouldn’t we? If so that ain’t gonna happen

I'd rather we didn't play in Europe next season and just focused on rebuilding and the best league position possible to step up for following season and domestic Cup wins.

I’m down for some BTEC Europe Thursday night action.
I’d quite like ETH to test his mettle in the Europa. It’s a trophy we could conceivably lift. Plus if we are on the Sunday/Thursday rotation we’ll miss a lot of 3pm no tv slots so we can watch more games. :wenger:

One good thing about the reshuffle of European competitions is that the Europa League doesn't seem as tinpot as it used to since the Conference League was introduced. The quality of teams in it are pretty much the same as the Champions League when you exclude City, Liverpool and Bayern.

A loss to Palace on the final day and West Ham can consign us to the Conference League by beating Norwich and Brighton…

That’s what I want as well but Wolves will have to win all 3 of their remaining games now which includes both Man City & Liverpool in that run-in.

It’s literally the EL or Conference League now depending on how West Ham do.

We've been terrible since Christmas and we've only played 2 European matches.

I'm not sure why people think the Europa will be a massive hindrance.

Qualifying for the EL is actually an achievement this season. Qualifying for the Conference is punishment.

The City vs Liverpool rivalry ain't going away anytime soon and both sides are often pushing each other to get between 85-100 points in title winning campaigns. A title challenge realistically isn't happening for a few years.

A Europa League or Conference league campaign might just be a way to get the new players a trophy, build confidence up again, getting younger players games and also getting ten Hag more experience with the club. Obviously it's not where a club like United should be but in the short term I'm more open to it the more I think about it.

Europa Conference is a real real possibility. West Ham, need 3 more points against either City or Brighton, and we are 7th, based on our shocking goal difference.

City will more than likely win, but the Brighton game is a real possibility, considering the home teams form at home.

Seem ironic saying that after yesterday, but it’s true nonetheless.

You know what? It just came to me that if we were to win the conference, we would become the first club to have won all the uefa competitions.
That's something I guess.

That's nothing I'd want, though.

If we end up 7th it will be reserve teams playing all the way through until we eventually get knocked out.

We're likely going to end up in Europa again, and I think it's the worst of both worlds tbh. I would prefer to be in the Conference, play solely youngsters who need match experience and first teamers who have been struggling for minutes. Rest the proper starting XI or so and focus on the league. Playing twice a week, especially on Thursdays is detrimental. We also have a good bunch of youngsters. The Europa is harder to make that decision, because its slow more high profile, there's a reluctance to play youngsters and a feeling we should play our first teamers, but inevitably the first teamers don't play with as much desire and end up losing anyway. Plus in the last few years we've had too much deadwood in the first team who needed minutes so ended up playing these games, restricting opportunities for youngsters.

I would hope to see the likes of Elanga, Diallo, Hannibal, Shoretire, Garnacho, Garner, maybe Pellestri, Fernandez, Laird and a few others play consistently for us in Europe next season, regardless of whether it's Europa or the Conference.

Every time we qualify for Europa all we see is posts saying it will be good to play the youngsters yet we never do

If Westham lose to City the only way the finish ahead of us is if we lose our last game.

I would love if we play our first team and use the games to bed in the new manager’s ideas and tactics

Really thought we had Europa wrapped up, especially because I thought WHU would make the EL final.

But now... I cannot see us getting points at Palace away where we (and other top teams) traditionally struggle. So my hopes are pinned on... Brighton to beat West Ham (as well as City of course).

The players should pay for a refund of season tickets if we finish 7th. Absolute wasters.

We’re not finishing in the top four next season so a Europa campaign should not be sniffed at as it’s a passport into the cl. We definitely have more chance of winning Europa then finishing in the top 4 next season. There’s no way Ten Haag will be sending kids out unless we’re through with a few games left. Also there’s less games in Europa now than before.
Of course we’ll probably end up in the Conference anyway when we get smashed by palace which would be complete humiliation.
