Europa, Conference or bust?

What on earth is a coefficient?

At this rate everyone bit the relegated teams will be in the CL.

The CL will be more games than the PL and there you have your European Super League.

As of now we are rank #9, if the new wild card rule is effective next season, we will definitely be qualified for CL, should we finish at 5th, because the 8 clubs above us will have qualified via the proper channel.

Should we miss 1 European season entirely, and if we fail to reach Top 4 next season, we will be at around 13th, behind Spurs, or even Arsenal. Spurs or Arsenal will be able to take advantage of this wild card rule, not us. And worse, because co-efficient rule count 5 seasons of result, we will be ranking near 10th for the next 5 years, due to 1 year of wilderness.

p.s. Arsenal is currently at 16th, due to last season's blank.

The Europa League is beneath us, but it is our level now. One must try to make the most of the situation one is in, but it would be nice if we could use the Europa League to start fringe players rather than running our regular starters into the ground.

Why do you think that the Europa League is beneath us??

If we finish in the place that means we go into that tournament, then it obviously isn't beneath us.

Why not enjoy whichever European tournament that we qualify for, rather than mocking or putting one of them down??

Fair question. What I hope is obvious is that a club of United's stature should be playing in the Champions League season after season. But of course that status must be earned, and we have done nothing to earn that status going into next season. So in a literal sense you are absolutely right -- we must sleep in the bed we make and eat the food we cook.

That said, it can't be denied that the standard of play in the Europa League is inferior to the standard we strive for. Clubs like West Ham and Leicester City are delighted to be in the Europa League, but I believe I speak for most United supporters in stating that few United supporters are delighted to see us in the Europa League. Based on our past experience in the competition, there's not that much to "enjoy" when watching us play in this competition.

Europa is actually not that easy to conquer as showcased by us and barca and others. Any silverware at this point would be nice though the calender congestion might be harmful for a team going through a rebuild.

We won the Europa League not too long ago, that was pretty enjoyable was it not??
I may be in the minority then, because I really enjoyed beating Ajax in the final.

Yes we lost another final, but to say or suggest that there hast been that much to enjoy in that tournament is surely wrong.

Whilst being delighted to compete in the tournament is perhaps the wrong phase to use, excited to play European football is better, we shouldn't be so arrogant as to think or belive we are better or too big to play in either the Europa League or the Conference League, if we end up in either, then that is exactly where we belong.

Then we should look to win whichever one we are in, a trophy is a trophy, no way can we just dismiss one just because some people don't like a particular tournament for some reason or another.

I am always delighted to see us win any trophy, and for the men's side of things, it had sadly been a while since we have done so.

On any given match day, the objective is to win the match. When we won the EL that day it was a good day, but it was a poignant day for me as it was another reminder that we fallen far as a club. We can compete in the EL, but we’ve become cannon fodder in the CL. There was no realistic hope after that EL final that we were anywhere close to competing with the top clubs in Europe, a fear that was proven true after that EL cup win.
