Erling Haaland

Great choice for both Haaland and City. Haaland is a killer on his own up front, but he is also a very playable striker who often set up his team mates. I suspect people who haven’t watched him much underestimate his technical skills and combination play.

I’ve always wanted Haaland to play for a PL team next year. PL will be even more enjoyable to watch, and I look forward to see how he cope with high expectations in a tougher league.

Combine this with his outlandish lifestyle, promotion of conspiracy theories on his Instagram, and sub-par participation in the Norway National Team's Qatar-protests, and I am just left numb.

What kind of theories has he been promoting?

NoChoice are a clothing brand that promotes clothes that they claim protect you from electromagnetic radiation and 5G. There was a bit of a fuss in Norwegian media last autumn. His dad, Alfie, claimed "he doesn't believe in what they stand for" but the Protected in his post says otherwise. Feels like damage control by his dad.

Recently read that even after the rehab Haaland is struggling with leg pain and complaining about it regularly. But he doesn’t want another rehab stint so apparently he's taking painkillers and playing through the pain. He has also asked Dortmund to not announce his injuries anymore.

This is so dumb when you see that Dortmund have nothing to play for at this stage of the season. This is probably his entourage and greedy agent's idea so that he doesn't become less attractive to big clubs and they can still pocket that fat commission.

Playing through injuries can have a massive impact on him long term and can literally cut off several years from his playing career.

Have watched a lot of Haaland.
He's an amazing amazing goalscorer. Absolutely no doubt. Probably the best goalscorer after RL9 right now.

But his overall game is indeed unimpressive(not terrible though, sometimes he looks fine). He just lacks that technique, touch, awareness and finesse strikers like Benz and RL9 have and always had. So, one of the possible cases is, even if Haaland has a decent tally for himself at City, he can make the linkup in the final third somewhat disjoint and less smooth.

Gonna get slaughtered for saying this but in terms of player profile Haaland is just a better and less comical version of Lukaku; ofcourse an even better finisher. I really don't see him drastically changing his game to be a Pep striker. Plus, if you sign him for those wages Pep would have to play him every game. This can actually get toxic at some point if Pep doesn't really succeed in moulding him into a striker-prototype he needs for his meticulously planned system to succeed.

I'm not even taking into consideration that Haaland's injury record is a major concern here.

Really think Haaland would suit a Madrid, United, Chelsea, etc better. City are just way too mechanical and strictly choreographed for a player like him.

No, he's a bad fit for that style on paper as of now. Needs space to make runs in behind. That's his modus operandi. For Norway and Dortmund he has tons of space to run in behind generally. For City he'll be against low blocks jam-packed with players around him every week.
The leg pain you're referring to wasn't from the sustained rehab, but from being kicked repeatedly in the ankles vs Armenia 3 weeks ago.

He has 7 assists on the season, while Lewa has 2 and Schick 1. The lack of awareness and fluidity in his play is a bit overblown. Let's just see how he'll manage the PL.

Let's hope he becomes a misfit like Zlatan or more injury prone because City will be next to impossible to stop if he's fit and fully in form

Which is why I was desperate for City to get Kane last summer, oh well knew they'll dominate football for the next 5 years even without Haaland but now they on god mode if this was a game.

Also, with Haaland going to City now, who is likely to play all the time when fit, where does that leave Julian Alvarez, seems like a pointless signing unless they offload some of their other talent

He won't. Zlatan's style makes him far more prone to not fitting into certain play styles but Haaland will be banging it in for fun in that city side.

Yeah Kane staying is going to end up making City a near unbeatable force with Haaland

Haaland's all round game still needs polishing TBF but yeah his potential is through the roof
I'd have been a lot more worried if they got Kane though he has everything needed to succeed as a Pep No9 and I mean everything

He's going to smash Salah's record.
Put your money on it.
City got a future Ballon D'or winner.

Our own mess means I'm less bothered by City signing Haaland than I would have been last summer.

By the time we're in a position to compete with them the Pep will likely have moved on so they'll be weakened in other ways. Whereas for the likes of Liverpool it's a more immediate challenge.

He could have claimed 5G was trying to control his mind, decided to join the flat-earthers, and married into the Kardashian clan ….still would’ve taken him in a heartbeat, and genuinely worry what he could do for city.

My actual only hope is that I distinctly remember Pep having problems fitting Ibra into his teams and style of play at Barca. His years with Pep were almost lost years. However good a player is, fit is important.

If it happens, this will be the first time City have successfully gone all in for the super high profile player. We weren’t in protracted bidding wars for Dias, Bernardo, Walker, Rodri, Toure, Silva etc and De Bruyne was branded an “ex-Chelsea flop” when City paid £60m for him.

Since Pep arrived (and before that - after the initial silliness with Kaka etc), City have generally focused on recruiting players who don’t have huge “brands” or egos. The Grealish signing changed that, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare us with the consistent signings of R9, Zidane, Beckham, Owen, Bale etc yet.
This is actually interesting, the players that you have mentioned in the above post were all good players and were quite popular. How come there were no clubs involved or showed interest in signing them or like you mentioned, being involved in bidding wars, I mean United go for a player and tabloids keep including x y z clubs to link with those players but in city's case they are generally quite ahead of the race to sign the player they want. Any insight on this?

Will be very interesting to see how Haaland adapts to Guardiola football. Seeing as he is a very individualistic player. Joining a team that play as a collective will be a challenge.

Also be good to see him up against PL defenders. He may turn out to be as good as very one says or we will discover as we have with Sancho and Werner that Bundesliga teams leave themselves far too open for counters on transitions and that when going up a level in league quality, the performances haven't matched the output in the Bundesliga.
Absolutely, also the low block teams that we have here. Will be interesting to see how he handles the physicality of the league and the pace at which the league is played.

Some of the talk reminds me of Grealish to City last year. The truth is that he improves them but not by nearly as much as being speculated.
There is alsona questuin of how he fits. City will have to alter their attack to accommodate him and it remains to be seen if that is actually to their benefit. If not he could quickly become a rotation player cause Pep does not force players into his sytem.

I hope the people that think Nunez has poor technique will be saying the same about Haaland :D

Personally I believe if City win the CL this year then Guardiola will leave for a break; leaving someone like Haaland for a different manager.

Yeh I’d agree. Feels like Kane is the absolutely perfect Pep striker

Their first proper big name signing for them.
Unlikely to happen but I'm hoping he flops massively for them.

He could well score 40 league goals next season. This will make them close to unstoppable.

Until he’s in the shite blue of City, it’s still speculation. He is obviously unproven in the PL but has talent . How will Sterling and DeBruyne react to being down the wage ladder to a 21 year old? Maybe City will give them other phantom jobs as they did to Mancini to boost their salaries. If the rumours are true, it is just on scene that Alfie is getting a pay off and Raiola is getting teens of millions absolutely obscene. I the same week Burnley sacked a guy that has won them promotion twice and survived on what City pay their Board, this just shows how we are heading for a top three only league and we won’t be in it.

Aye. Amazing what you can achieve by cheating the system and illegally inflating sponsorship deals getting your oil state owners to back you with unlimited funding to sportwash their reputation. Proper fair play. Incredible stuff.

It’s a complete joke, but all the cool kids say it doesn’t matter…

Alvarez will get loads of game time if Halland is as injury prone as mentioned

I think it's great move from both parties and makes PL even more competitive. Not worried that he'd elevate City to high skies and they become unbeatable. It's real life, not Football Manager.

I'd like to see him break records and become an super elite striker like Lewandowski, Benzema or chase numbers like Ronaldo and Messi had. 500k for him is a lot, but let's see if he's worth it. Still, injuries and different landscape of league are a great challenge for him. Not to ignore the wage, price tag and huge expectations which tests out his mentality as well.

Its a pretty obvious move all around, ever since United got Ronaldo ahead of City last summer.

Not a chance.
City are gonna win every trophy for the next decade and Haaland will consistently get 60+ in all competitions. At least that's what I heard on here.

Nevermind the fact that two of the greatest players and goalscorers of all time (Ronaldo and Messi) managed that feat twice in their whole careers.

Don't shit yourself guys, nothings signed yet and even if he does sign for them who knows how things will pan out re injuries. Then we just have to rise to the challenge. And don't be surprised if he's itching for a move/bigger contract 18 months in with his agent and all.Bring on the challenge.
